Hey TL!

It's time for meatball sandwich with gooey mozzarella cheeese. yay!

INGREDIENTS
  • salt
  • pepper
  • 1 tablespoon of oregano
  • 2 tablespoons of parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon of worcestershire sauce
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • 1/2 white onion
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 lbs of ground beef (85% /15% beef)
  • 1 cup of arugula
  • 1/2 cup of marinara sauce
  • 4 slices of mozzarella cheese
  • 4 rolls of whole wheat bread

PROCEDURE
Total prep time will be about ~30 minutes. Total cook time will be about 45 mintuess. This recipe will serve 4 people.

  1. Set oven to 375° F (190° C).
  2. Mince garlic and onion into fine pieces.
  3. Place ground beef in a bowl.
  4. Combine salt, pepper, oregano, parmesan, onion, worcestershire sauce, and garlic with the ground beef.
  5. Add in egg.
  6. Combine thoroughly.
  7. With a table spoon, portion out the meat and shape into balls.
  8. Place meatballs in a baking dish.
  9. Cook for 45 minutes or until golden.

  10. Slice your sandwich rolls in half.
  11. Set your oven to broil (or 500° F / 260° C).
  12. Place sandwich rolls in the oven and let them toast for a few seconds.
  13. Remove from oven.

  14. Place marinara sauce in a pan and set on high heat. Allow sauce to warm and then remove from heat.
  15. Spread sauce onto warm sandwich rolls.
  16. Slice your meatballs in half and place them on the bread.
  17. Place mozzarella slices over the meat.
  18. Place sandwich in the oven (at broil or 500° F / 260° C) to allow mozzarella to melt. This should take about 40 seconds.
  19. Remove sandwich from the oven and drizzle marinara sauce over the cheese.
  20. Place arugula over the cheese and finish with the sandwich top.
  21. Eat!

Arugula is amazing when paired with beef. Glad to see you doing this in a sandwich, nonetheless.

I've actually never heard of this, but I just googled it a few moments ago.
It seems interesting, but according to this article, the process takes 4 hours to set. ): But I totally understand how that will definitely make the meatballs much more flavorful.

Besides, you can just throw your meatballs into a pan. You dont need an oven.

Nice, I screwed up meatballs a few days ago, made them too big and tried to fry them. Will have a crack at this.

Never new Rocket was called Arugula in the US, I presume it is pronounced

Hard to comment on how rediculous it sounds but we call it rocket, lol.

Probably just in the mixture for the meatballs. It won't make too much of a difference without it though.

---

You can do a pretty nice Gnocchi gratin with this same sort of set up. Make your meatballs up and a nice tomato sauce, cook up some gnocchi and stir it into the meatballs + sauce. Put it in a heatproof dish, spread strips of mozarella over the top and grill/broil for like 5min. Just serve with some basil over the top and a nice salad on the side. Maybe a bit out of season now though =)

I just made these. 5/5 because I can do them and because they didn't taste like donkey ass like most of the food I cook.
Marinara sauce was a bit hard to get, but I got by with tomato sauce with garlic/olive oil.
Didn't know what to do with the worcestershire sauce so I just sprinkled it on top of the meatballs before mozarella.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ In retrospect I probably should have added it to the meatballs.

Derp ): Sorry, I've corrected the recipe.
The worcestershire goes with the meatball mixture. T_T fail on my part.

There is a place in my home town that does a meatball grinder very similar to this except they slice up their meatballs multiple times so that they cake it on as like layers. Also, my secret ingrediant for a meatball grinder is to add black olives if you like them. Sooo good.

Don't get me wrong, the binding-ground-meat-with-salt discussion is cool and all, but what's really interesting about this post is that the linked page has an ad sidebar for a sketchy dating site specifically for foodies. The future is now.

Made it for dinner today, used thick slices of homemade bread, made my own marinara with fried onion and garlic puree, oregano, Worcestershire, soy, salt, and pepper; reserved some marinara and mozzarella for the top.

The meatballs turned out a little dry, I don't know if I overcooked them or made them too small. I'll be more careful next time. This was definitely fucking delicious, though. Thanks for the recipe!
