[BR] First TvP BW win!

Hi everyone,
Here's a TvP that I played several days back. Keep in mind I'm a noob at BW so my money will float extraordinary high(I miss hotkeying multiple buildings lol). Shall we start? :D

The game starts as usual. I spawn bottom right and he spawns top left and we both open standard. He researches dragoon range while I make an academy ...

I block my ramp or so I thought, so gosu lol:

I decide to expand and hold his dragoon pressure while going tanks and repairing to defend:

I actually placed the bunker in the correct place? LOL

I go mech while he adds more gateways, gets double forge for upgrades as well as templar archives.

My opponent expands while keeping me contained. I work on getting my tank count up and decide that it's time to take my third when it felt right.

A little harass can't fail, right? Wrong, we both screw them up!

Since it's been quiet and looks like it's turning into a macro game, I finally take my third, put some land mines and move my forces out. My opponent has about a similar army supply as well and storms ready.

I harass a bit with vultures stopping his third from going up and taking out some zealots before withdrawing while leap frogging my tanks slowly although I end up splitting my forces near the center.

There is finally an engagement! My forces are split up and against a superior protoss army, I manage to trade equally. Not the best for mech but my macro wasn't working well in that game so I had plenty of money saved up to rebuild.

Clutch defensive matrix I tell ya!

After my protoss opponent wins the battle, he takes his third as I take my fourth. I continue leaping forward my tanks and get closer to his main entrance. I force an engagement being almost maxed and having what I believe to be the superior army. This could be a game deciding engagement!

Where's the stasis?

Seeing an opportunity to do some damage, I move closer to his base and siege up some tanks forgetting that scan is S losing the remainder of the army there but never fear, mass queuing is here!

My opponent recalls into my undefended third base and takes it out while I attack and take out his own third. He tries to defend but half of his army isn't enough to take out my tanks:

With his last mining base mined out and running low on saved resources, he tried to recall into my main but is stopped by my missile turrets:

He keeps on flooding me with units after trying to break my front:

After failing to break the front and with one remaining dragoon in the red, he just leaves the game:

Bonus:

lol at valkyrie and +1 air weapons(oops)

Hooray, finally won a BW game lol. Now if only I can actually find more games to join, a TvZ would be nice

Need to fix:
- Need more vultures to harass and place more spider mines
- Remember the correct hotkeys(*cough*scan*cough*)
- Multitask much more. It took quite a while before I moved close enough to his base
- Getting upgrades much faster(opponent 3/1/3, only 3/0)
- Work on my control groups.

Curious as to how BW Terran players hotkey their buildings? Can you use function keys for camera settings like in SCII? Forgot to try it. How much can a base support as well? I had a ton of resources saved but that was due to my macro slipping because I kept forgetting to go back to the base to make units. I recall hearing that 5 factories is too much for 2 mining bases, thoughts?

Shift F1 to hotkey locations.

When I played BW I used 6-7-8 for CC's, leaving 9 & 0 for scans. using 1 for scans isn't bad either since 1a isn't all that comfortable for some people on some keyboards(, also, 2ta3ta4ta is just comfy when playing bio). In some match-ups like TvP where your army isn't as numerous I used 1 to check upgrades from time to time.

I'm pretty sure you can have 1 fac with add-on and 2 without for every mining base you have.
You can get there slower if you go for early upgrades but I think that's sustainable production.

e. Early game you can hotkey a factory and doubletap for your production rounds, later on you just have to learn the location saves. ( use one for your factories and another for where you want to rally stuff to quickly reset rallies: F2-click-R-F3-click)

its shift and f2/f3/f4

f1 is options and doesnt hotkey areas.

I love how you deny Arbiters to be op in this game.
Keep up your games.
Btw, did you know if you get vultures behind their minerals, you can kill a lot of probes...just tugging your chain.

thanks for the battle report! i really do enjoy seeing these, even if they're not the highest level, just because it's kind of cool to see a game in this written format. especially with pictures.

also learn to be really obnoxious with vultures. god they're a protoss player's worst nightmare.

just build a fuck ton of factories and keep churning out those vultures.

put mines on all of his possible expansions, cover ramps with mines when you go up to kill probes, get a dropship when the protoss player learns how to sim city.

cover your main in mines too if you see twilight/arbiter play. that way if he succeeds his army will be instantly obliderated.

If you want to host games, you'll need to port forward (http://portforward.com explains how; they usually have a guide for your router, for StarCraft.) The ports are UDP and TCP 6112. Then you can create games for other people to join, and name it TvZ so you can play vs Zergs.

Good battlereport, although I suggest making it more flavourful

when did I deny them to be OP? Storms, reavers, arbiters, tanks, defilers, etc... are all OP and which is why I love the game lol. ya, you're right but I didn't know the map layout well(2nd time in a year) and my micro isn't up to par at all. I tried to sneak them from the back but he had zealots there which is why you see that screenshots of zealots chasing my vultures through his third lol.

lol well, he tried to take a third and eventually did. I only called it macro because it seemed like we both were working on more units/workers and expanding(for me at least) but we aren't obviously pro or anything. Thanks

np and ya, about that, well, I'm used to using control groups with multiple buildings to make units from SCII so what happened was that I expanded and money was hovering between 500-1000 or so then I expanded again and at that point, my macro completely fell apart. I kept forgetting to go back to my base to make units and since my focus was on moving my army, I end up queuing up units until I get used to it. It's why my army was 3/0 when I had an armory not researching anything lol. Thanks and ya, that +1 was a complete accident, dunno how I messed up XD

yes, you're right. I've seen a decent portion of BW TvP and saw how they use them but since I never played BW 1v1 hardcore or anything, I wasn't able to keep up with the multitasking but ya, everything you said is what I wanted to do. It just got overriden when I was trying to macro and move my units ><

played with that suntzu guy before ...... and I can just say that he tries to kill terran on 2 base all the time while he could play a standard game and get a fast third and macro up from there . Anyway congrats on the win you deserve it

I don't have a ton of experience writing BR, this is only my 4th I think but I tried to do a bit of that. Obviously nowhere close to Bibiane's lol but I'll try harder next time. On a side note, I don't have much references BMing progamers -_-;

oh have you? hmm, well, he did tell me he wasn't new to the game when I asked since his account was still at 1100 I believe(1-0). How would you say his skill level is? I just want to gauge what my level is. Thanks, would've been nicer if I stayed on my macro but what can one do, practice! practice! lol.
