Much as it pains me to say this, but I really wanted to be in Seoul to watch the last BW OSL. To be with fellow Brood War fans, showing our undying support for a game that by all measures should have been swept away by the ravages of time, but has continued to endure as a cultural icon.
Today, I came to the Korean Embassy, got my passport, and saw that I had been denied my tourist visa to get that taste of being at the end of all things. Denied of that last chance I should have taken way before.
Now I can't be there to see BW's culminating point. The last time that we will see a Starleague winner kiss the trophy. That moment when one story-line wraps up for the ages. The point at which a legacy will truly end.
Whether it is the Chicken Feet Zerg who finally comes into his own and banishes the shadow of a soulkey, showing he is ZerO to none.
Whether the Dragon rises once again in a Jangbang and proves that the Legend of the Fall is not a fluke.
Whether the Crown Prince finally proves to one and all that he is indeed worthy to sit on the throne of champions and not just a mere Terrorist to mortals.
Whether it is the Ultimate Weapon terminating everything along its path to impress on one and all that he is indeed God.
I will not be there in body. I will be at home, nursing a bottle of Soju, eating some Nongshim ramen and bawling my eyes out once a champion is crowned.
But I will be there in spirit.
And so will everyone who has ever loved this game of ours. This undying passion will always be there in some form, striving for that moment of perfection. We will endure, awaiting that eternal spring when our passion will show the world that we should not have been forgotten and discarded like a useless trinket. We will be waiting.
Fellow Brood Warriors, may you drink, be merry, and savor the experience of a Starleague Finals for me. That is all I ask of you.

What was the reason for denying your visa ? That sounds so unfair
I feel so sad for you now.

No RTS game will ever replace bw and yeah I will be there(in spirit ) celebrating the crown champion of this last bw star league . Will open a can of beer and cry knowing that I won't ever be able to watch any more korean professional bw . I cant say this is a fitting ending for broodwar feels kind of forced this shouldn't be the way bw should have ended .
BW FOR Life !
Edit : I forgot I am not in korea

I never got to see pro broodwar live. I'm crying now

I promise I won't cry.
+ Show Spoiler +Or else how can I say that cliche "I promised myself I wouldn't cry" ??
I hope this OSL final is everything it ought to be. Honestly the tournament so far has suffered, but in this ro4 I can't see any of these players not giving it their all. Will be waking up bright and early to catch the games at 6:30 tomorrow. I wanna see some nerds cry, especially at the final when they realise they will never play pro BW again.

I'm curious as well why it got denied.

We will all be there, holding hands and cherishing the moment as one over the internet, let's hope the games are worthy of the occasion. What makes it so good to me, is that everyone in the ro4 has a real story going in, I would be happy with any combination in the final you know? There is no Modesty or Soo to troll us and get destroyed :p

Officially, they put it as "You failed to prove strong economic and family ties to your home country." However, as I live in the Philippines (yeah I never bothered to change the US in the location), they probably think I'm going to go sneak off and be an undocumented alien in their country. That's the pity with us, nearly everyone thinks that we're going to go underground and be illegal immigrants, like many Central American citizens are in the US.
It's very hard for me to prove economic and familial ties, as I have only a few hundred dollars in my bank accounts (worth around 1.5-2.5 months wage here), my work with a small advertising agency pays less than 500 USD/month, and the funds for actually buying the ticket and all other expenses are coming from my contribution to the family account; which is not in my name. A further issue is that I'm single, an only child, and I look a bit like someone in Airforce Ace (I have narrow eyes and my current haircut looks military), thus fitting the profile of a person who can easily become an illegal immigrant.
I'm disappointed as hell that I can't go, to think that this was essentially the first time I've thought about indulging myself beyond spending for my own PC, but maybe it's also a blessing in disguise, because the roughly 700-800 USD I'd end up spending had this gone through can be put to a different use.

If you're from the US (as well as most other countries), you don't need a visa to visit South Korea; unless the stay is longer than 90 days. Am I missing something?
edit: Oh nm, I didn't see the followup post. Sorry!

I'm not going to lie, I'm going to cry when it ends, but at least we can hope for an epic end to the greatest pro scene ever. BW forever!

Aww man, Really feel bad for you bro. cheers to you /drinks his soju as well

I wouldn't feel too bad about it. Everyone has a "it's my last chance" mindset right now, including a looooooooot of Korean people. It's going to be madness for anyone trying to get a seat.

There's always the chance of the koreans figuring out just how stupid of an idea this was and revert. I have a huge feeling a majority of the korean BW fans won't convert. If they liked SC2 they would've just switched already. They're totally different games, and I'm not sure if a few faces who won't be relevant for 3 months to a year will keep them interested.

Ya, but how are they gonna rebuild the infrastructure they lost? The longer they wait to go back, the harder it is to do so. You can't just fill a league with rookies, and if the pros did switch back, who is to say how much better they are than rookies after months of improper practice? It's going to be very difficult to rebuild BW in SK. Especially since the expectations are very high, not like they were when they first begun constructing the scene.
If they changed back immediately it would be ok, but that would just look indecisive by KeSPA and they've got responsibilities to Blizzard now with SC2 broadcasting and everything. They would have to make a new BW league or something, and maintain the SC2 one... So maybe it's possible, but it's very difficult.
