Hey TL,
So I had a random thought while planning out my future. First, I am about to start College and go into Education. "The Plan" is to complete college and then go teach English in Korea for 2 - 3 Years. Move back to the States or Canada and then teach Korean there.
I was just thinking, should I big purchase things over the next 3 - 4 years? IE Nice TV (1000+) A nice bed set, furniture in general.
Has anyone else been in this situation?
Any input would help.
Thanks!

Do you have the money to buy these nice things and then sell-them later at a very reduced price? Do you value those nice items enough to make them worth the money and effort?
This is hardly a problem. It's up to you and your own financial situation.

Are you male or female? I've heard that it's quite difficult for a male to get a job as an English teacher there.

No it's not. Females are somewhat preferred, but supply is much lower. The large majority of english teachers in Korea are male.

I'm not in the same situation, but being a nerd(I suppose you are), you should live well by just having a good PC(preferably a laptop so you can bring it to Korea). I have a rather big apartment with a livingroom that has two TVs, lots of books and movies, Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, a lot of older consoles, but I usually end up surfing on my mac or playing on my PC anyways

If you have the money, sure, go for it, but since you're asking, you probably don't have the money so don't. You can live without a 30'' tv and expensive furniture. Besides, aren't salaries crap over there, especially for English teachers?

Do you already speak some korean? If not I don't think 3 years of living there will put you at teaching level.

Where ever you go, whatever you do, make sure you have a nice bed. You spend, what is it, 1/3 of your life asleep; make sure you are sleeping in comfort. Here's my ranking (most important to own to least important): 1. Bed: Make sure it is comfortable. nothing is worse than getting a bad nights sleep because your mattress is terrible. 2. PC: Pretty self explanatory . 3: Kitchen supplies: this covers pots/pans, plates/cups, to utensils (and anything else you need to cook). It's super embarrassing to invite a girl over and serve her dinner on paper plate and give her a plastic fork. 4: Furniture: If you don't have somewhere for you and your lady to sit it can get uncomfortable for a girl's first time visit. Inviting her to your bedroom just to sit down can seem a little strange. 5. TV: You can use you comp for that (as long as it has a big enough monitor).
Beyond this it's a matter of preference.
