Gnomoria is an indie game in the alpha phase of development right now. It is being created by Robert West, aka RoboB0b with help in arts and audio from Rhopunzel, and James Primate.

Gnomoria in a nut shell

Gnomoria is a sandbox village management game where you help lead a small group of gnomes, who have set out on their own, to thrive into a bustling kingdom! Anything you see can be broken down and rebuilt elsewhere. Craft items, build structures, set traps and dig deep underground in search of precious resources to help your gnomes survive the harsh lands. Build your kingdom and stockpile wealth to attract wandering gnomads to your cause, but be wary of also attracting enemies!

Taken from the Gnomoria home page found here: http://gnomoria.com/

My personal story!

So, time to create my new gnomish world! I've decided to make it huge for optimal awesome, and after spending a few minutes randoming names I think I've found a keeper!

Okay, so after taking a few minutes for my world to generate, here is the result:

+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]

What in the world?! How will they get down!? Oh well, I guess taking the Drunk Land wasn't the best of ideas, obviously my gnomes were a bit intoxicated during their journey...

On the bright side, Fes looks like a total badass, I'm sure he and I will get along just fine!

So now let's get down to business and start choppin' some resources!

+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]

Okay, so here's a picture of the UI, I find it really easy to navigate and fairly simple. The learning curve really isn't that drastic and it's pretty easy to jump into.

I am going to cut some apples off of these trees to give my gnomes more food to eat

+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]

Here you can see the aftermath of the designation of cutting the trees. It circles the job with yellow meaning it has yet to be started.

In this picture I am also going to chop some trees down for some wood to build some structures.

+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]

Okay, so now let's give my gnomes a place to put all of the stuff, including the containers you start with.

+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]

Okay, so here's me designating an area to place all of my junk in my trunk!

+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]

And here's the picture of deciding what goes into your stockpile, the priority, etc.

+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]

Now my gnomes are taking all of the logs and clippings to the designated stockpile area. This will make keeping track of my supplies easier as well as they will have an easier time gathering the materials that they need to complete a job.

Now I think I'll try and mine down to get some stone so I can begin creating some production facilities to create furniture and weapons and such.

+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]

Okay, now that I have set the task to dig down I'll go focus on other things!

Let's give some fortitude to my gnomes!

+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]

I'll begin by creating a wall around my farm and stockpile to protect them from outside enemies like goblins.

+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]

So here is my finished fort. It's pretty badass, you don't need to tell me!

But I've noticed that no digging has taken place yet....what is the hold up here...?

+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]

What in the hell? How did this happen? My only two gnomes with pickaxes died somehow...

I liked Fes so much.....why....WHY!!?! Oh cruel fate!

+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]

Oh dear god, you morons.....

Now that I can't get to them to retrieve their pickaxes there is basically nothing I can do. Without stone I can't create any workshops to build more pickaxes, and without pickaxes I can't get stone!

So I'll cut this world off here!

+ Show Spoiler +
[image loading]

This is Drunk Land, signing off for the last time.

Overall I really enjoyed my world, no matter how much of a failure it was. Hopefully in the future I'll have a more successful world that will make for better reading!

Looks fun, like a less convoluted, lower learning curve dwarf fortress.

That's exactly what I thought when I saw it. I hope the devs never try to make money from it (without some changes), because the gameplay really does seem to be just a simpler DF. The graphics are better and the UI is more friendly (I guess those are both pretty big understatements), but everything else... I hope it becomes an independent game and not a DF clone

OP, glad that you're enjoying yourself! If you haven't already, you should check out Dwarf Fortress which seems like a more complex version of the same game. You can even get "texture packs" that take away the ASCII, making it a bit easier to begin playing. You also should use tools like Dwarf Therapist for management, but I'm sure you can figure this all out yourself It's one of my favorite games

I've played DF a fair amount and I can honestly say that I like Gnomoria a fair amount more. One of the biggest reasons that I like it more is that it is very simple and easy to get into. It does cost $8 to buy it and play it. It isn't a copy of DF and is fairly different, Gnomoria is to DF as Call of Duty is to Halo.

Hey guys, great to see more people talking about this game. If you'd like to see more of the game I have a video series tutorial / let's play on youtube to help people out due to the fact that there's no tutorial or wiki as of yet.
You can check out the first episode and if you want to see more, see the playlist link below.
Hope this helps some people

I came to this thread expecting a sad story about your struggles with a disease I've never heard of.

Thanks for bringing my attention to this, looks fun. I wouldn't mind a simplified version of DF.
