Ok, so i've been in top 8 of gold for a while, and i've faced many Plats along the way. And I have to say, what fucking bullshit!
I haven't seen this much cheese since Tom and Jerry! Every other game I get into it's 6-pool, 2 gate proxy, 4 gate, proxy rax, ect ect. There's less of this in the bronze league for crying out loud!
I mean wtf!? I just get a basic understanding of the game, plow through all the shit in bronze/silver, make my way through gold, and now i'm back in bronze 2.0! Why!? cannon rushing won't get you into GM (Gaulzi is an exception) so why don't they just man up and play actual games!?
Pisses me off so much!

It never goes away, ever. If you are going to ladder, expect to be cheesed at a moving percentage of games.

because they know that in diamond and below, many players wont scout and then cheese is very efficient.

cheese is part of the game, gotta learn to defend, that's all

Some people just want to have fun. Cannon rushing, six-pooling, and similar strategies are fun. Especially when you've gotta be out the door in ten minutes.

I'd recommend scouting with a starting worker if you are getting cheesed that bad. Might get roasted for this but that 1 less worker shouldn't mean that much in plat and below.

At least with proxies ik to quickly wall off

I don't know what race you play, but as you move up the ladder cheese gets more and more frustrating, since at diamond and above the people executing the cheese actually have half-decent mechanics. In terms of frequency... it depends. I play mid-diamond Protoss and low-diamond Zerg, and I get cheesed far more often when I play Protoss. Especially PvP, I would say 80% of my matches are 4gates, cannon rushes, or proxy 2gates. As Zerg I don't see cheese very often, unless you count bunker rushes cheese, which I don't since they're almost standard and expected now, or 2 base 7-gate blink all-ins, which aren't too hard for me to stop as long as I scout it and have adequate time to put up spine crawlers. Overall I think my percent games with cheese are ~40% when I play Protoss, ~20% when I play Zerg.
As for advice, I would suggest you relish the chance to practice against cheese whenever you can if you want to be successful in getting to masters, even if you lose, since low masters is all just people who can only execute one or two all-ins very well mechanically, and obviously you have to beat these people to get promoted.

It's gonna get just as frequently but harder to stop as you rank up. At masters you'll face well executed cheeses which you really can't fuck up against even if you scout it. People won't man up and there's gonna be people who rely on you playing bad rather then them playing good which is a bit of a sad truth.
@epishode I don't think that will help. You'll scout a cannon rush or proxy gates earlier but you should be able to top those without scouting them a couple of seconds earlier. You will lose quite a bit of money if they are going for a macro opener so you put yourself behind more then is neccesary for being safe. There is a reason pro's scout as late as possible. Do a 9 scout if you're protoss and you should be able to scout in time. On some maps you can do a 13 scout safely I don't play protoss so I don't know what the limits are.

lol the tom and jerry reference, but ya plat is pretty cheesy and i heard diamond is stacked with smurfs, i been stuck in this hellhole league for 3 seasons ;_;
|
What kills me about cheese is when I face is about a million times in a row and happen to lose that million plus one time because I scouted him last and was unable to do anything effective at that point. God I hate that. Still , its just part of the game and once you learn how to handle it you feel great smashing those cheese balls who have a single build they use over and over and over again.
|
So, to be sure, it pisses you off that people doesn't play the way you want them to? Try singleplayer. Or man up and stop crying.
|
I've gone from bronze to high-masters and every step of the way I complained about cheese as well. I still complain about cheese. It will never go away, and people get better and more creative with it the higher up you go.
|
As mentioned, cheese is a strategy, regardless of its intention of making it a macro game or not. I am zerg and I mainly get cheesed by other Zergs, but, as these fine people ahead of me mentioned, it really is better for you to go through this now. Learning to defend cheesey openings makes you so much stronger than those who rely on catching you off-guard with their builds. Just keep it at, and don't get discouraged. Soon, you will laugh at proxy gates, cannons and 6-10 pools.
Cheers!

Pisses me off so much! mayby low plat is cheese, im high plat/low diamond and pretty much get timing attacks of differing flavors , occasional cheese and some macro games.

Fight through. I started mid Plat this season, high Plat now. Barely any cheese. As others have suggested, timing attacks are the thing to fight now :-) Oh how I hate 8:30 stalker/zealot/sentry/immortal pushes hehe.
Last cheese I have seen was last season. Although I should note that I so far have 15 wins this season, so that means I don't play that much.

Cheese is always prevailent when you are going to get promoted. This is because you are playing the people who are going to get demoted most of the time. They know it so they try to get a quick win so that they don't get demoted. If you can fend off their cheese then you will get promoted. True story Bro.

I'm surprised, Platinum is the league I got the least cheesed in. I felt people wanted to play more macro games in plat than in diamond.
