Hello teamliquid,
I am a newer Zerg player in the bronze league looking for some buddies to play with. I am tired of just going up against cheese and feel like I am in Bronze limbo and can not actually play the game it is supposed to be played. I cant even expand 90% of the time. So I come here looking for buddies because Day[9] told me to do it!

Hi. I have nothing to do right now. PM me your bnet tag and if we are both around i will help you out a bit.

"Cheese" never goes away, in various forms. You have to get good at holding off cheesy play to move up.
|
Being silver means you can defend against bronze cheese.

"The way the game is supposed to be played." If by this you mean the metagame, then it is a finely tuned style of play that emerges because other styles are unable to compete. If you aren't emerging from those wacky styles of play then you aren't playing correctly either.
Don't dismiss any loss as "cheese" and your "just in bronze limbo." Every single loss there is something you did wrong and can improve upon. Learn how to identify and adapt to every style. With time you will learn that a 4gate can be properly scouted, and methodically crushed as Zerg.
Adapt a very basic style, and try to make it happen. I would recommend for a beginning zerg player.
expand at 15. pool at 16 vs terran and toss, 14 in ZvZ. When you scout identify what they are capable of.
If they are expanding you can play the game as it's "supposed" to be played
If they don't expand, survive, and in time you'll learn how to survive, depending on what you scout. All the while, keep an eye on their natural expansion...
If they still don't expand at 7 minutes, and you droned properly, congratulations! Mathematically you've won the game.
7:00 to 8:00 minutes build an army. (if he expands in this time crush him with a 9:00 timing attack) 8:00 and no expansion, get up those spores and a couple queens for against air and cloaks, get lair, and continue to build an army. 9:00-10:00 build an army (crush him if he expands)

Bronze is full of cheese. just learn to deal with most of them and you'll get to silver in no time.
As what pwnographics said, silver is just a medal awarded to those who can defend bronze cheese.

Hey, you might want to post your character name and character code if you want people to add you quicker.

No such thing as cheese in Bronze league. True story bro.

Thanks guys, all very helpful advice.

Look at it this way.. Bronze is the lowest end of mechanics.. therefore it's the worst and easiest to hold cheese :/
just practice more

Watch filters vids on improving, hitting those benchmarks that he creates will make you a great player very quickly.

I am in Bronze limbo and can not actually play the game it is supposed to be played.
You mean do not play the game in a way you'd like to. Because you surely have no idea how it was supposed to be played, right.
Well, the good news are, after you defend the silly bronze so called "cheese", i.e. six pool, you can continue the game in any way you like. Nobody's stopping you from going into ubermacro mode and expanding twice. Opponent's eco is hurt, they are behind.
I personally like it that SC2 can be played in many different ways, including strategies others call "cheese".
Now I'd gladly help you to practice against whatever strategies you like, but once again... damn this no cross-region play.

you realize cheese is in every league right? The only difference between Diamond cheese and Bronze cheese is that Diamond cheese is executed without flaw and much harder to stop in general.

It's been well-established around here (a la Gheed) that those who believe cheese and bizarre all-ins aren't "playing the game" are doomed to stay in bronze for a long time. I'm top 8 plat right now and of the five games I played last night two were against cheese and one against a one-base all-in. The two failed cheeses (failed pylon ramp block into canon rush and 1 gate proxy) were my only wins of the night. Zerg is especially susceptible to cheese so it's something that you'll need to learn to live with.
If you want to start improving then get yourself some strategies (perhaps stealing a build order via Day9 daily #285), work on macro mechanics (droning, injects, overlords, expanding), and get some practice partners (use the practice partner thread) if you want to avoid the randomness of ladder. You also want to fix your mindset because cheese and crazy all-ins are all part of the game!
