As a long time fan of SC, i've gotten pretty bored of SC2 now. I mean, it's flashy, explosions, all that stuff is good. And I read the post about trying to make the game longer by having less minerals per bases and all that is good, but I find SC2 to be quite stale now. The unit design doesn't allow as much "creativity" as the SC:BW units did. I'm a mid masters protoss on the NA server, meaning i'm still pretty shitty at this game. And to be honest, I don't keep up too much with the GSL anymore, therefor i don't really know the flavor of the month, or the current trends. But i still do watch MLGs and keep up with tournaments here and there to see that not too much of what made the game feel stale to me has changed. The unit I hate the 2nd most in the protoss army is colossi. Honestly, colossi are good at what they do. There's no way to argue that. But they're a one trick pony. What good is a colossi except in a ball? They give minimal map control, there's almost no harass option with colossi, honestly, colossi are just one trick ponies, it just happens that they're really good at that one thing they do. #1 unit i hate, and rarely use is stalkers, but... that doesn't really apply to what makes the game stale, so i won't really discuss it here. So many units in the protoss and zerg race is very one purpose only. The only exceptions i can see is infestors(harass, deathball, space control against drops), blink stalkers(deathball, harass/pick off), and bane(harass, midgame army)/zerglings(being as dispensable which means you can try almost anything with this unit and you're okay). Terran has a few more multi-purpose units like that, and especially with the utility that the medivac provides it's not as much of a problem. In BW, good example is a reaver. Reaver in both PvZ, and PvT was a great harass unit, that would transition well in to the main army. So, if someone got a reaver early in a PvZ, you could use it as a harass unit, and if that didn't work, you had the reaver's other role as a good defensive units behind cannons, to get a 3rd if there is a easily defendable position, or go dragoon/reaver push. Or vultures, gives space control with mines, amazing harass units, also great at a fight in TvP. Lurkers, amazing harass units, great space controler, and almost necessary in both ZvP, and ZvT. So many units were multi purpose units which gave each game a little more flavor. A reaver at the X min mark didn't always mean "oh he's deathball mode now" (well maybe in the lategame but even then reaver were able to be uased for harass). But if you see a colossi in PvZ or PvT that isn't "rushed(even a rushed one was only for a timing attack or to defend against a timeing attack)" you know the protoss is now entering deathball mode, with only harass probably being zealot warp ins, or stalker blinks. So in the end i think this is what's turning me away from SC2, the lack of different flavors in SC2, and so much predictability due to limiting units to a single purpose. I guess TLDR: SC2 seems so draw a clear line between main army units, and none main army units. And that makes the game stale and predictable.

This blog was stale and predictable the moment I saw the title.

seein that your a mid masters protoss, I can safely assume that you just turtle to 3 base and attack move right? Try being active. will make the game alot more interesting.
Be aggressive and dont turtle. Turtling is for tanks and bronze league.

lol @ people that never played BW and think they know what "interesting" is
anyways, OP, people have been saying what you think since beta. we have just come to accept it

The reaver is even better harasser in PvP.
And what is this less minerals per base thing? Is there maps in SC2 with less minerals that make games last longer?

Anyways I can relate. I'm thinking of switching back to BW or something. I think it'll be best of BW is played along with SC2 and get more exposure, and let SC2 slowly die as it simply is not as timeless.

Hmm.. He said he's thinking of switching back to Brood War, so it would be reasonable to expect that hes a person from SC2, at the moment.

Hes a 2006 member so thats obv not the case . I'll admit I don't like sc2 as much as BW, BUT all my friends play and BW can get lonely, so I play both! When its nightime and my clanmates are on fish server I will play BW with them, otherwise I'll be on sc2. Lets face it, unless you're a progamer or trying to become one, why focus all your time on 1 game if you don't even enjoy it much? Just be kinda bad at both and have fun :D.

I think HOTS will fix any stale feelings

Fora month or two before the game becomes stale again.
SC2 was super amazing when i first started playing, then the more i played the more i realized it isnt as good nor as fun as broodwar, and eventually quit.

really, its harsh to blame the game for this.. this happens with basically every computer game out. there is only one game out there which you can play hours upon hours and it will never get old

I got bored of zerg myself. There's no micro just 1a2a and late game BL-infestor-corruptor deathball pushes. So i started playing bw and realized it was way more fun. I really wish sc2 zerg had lurkers and defilers. ![](/mirror/smilies/frown.gif)
I've recently started playing sc2 again but as terran and i have to say its definitely funner than zerg. I think its really the only interesting race to play. I suppose it might get boring after a while as well but so far its provided more fun and more of a challenge to me, although im still mostly playing bw for the time being. I guess what im saying is try terran or play bw :D.
