As i don't watch Televison hardly im going to use the analogy of me with a laptop + internet 1. I think i spend at least 4 hours everyday on my laptop instead of doing my homework instead. 2. Most things i learn on the internet are really superficial and have no importance in my daily life besides saying "Did you know that there was a guy during WW2 who took out 3 bunkers by himself?! (Bad ass of the week thread :D)" 3. I will admit internet is a social interaction, but i personally prefer face time rather than facebook time, not everybody goes on the same websites as me. Except for Reddit and Facebook nobody i know goes on TED or Teamliquid 4. I'll switch back to TV because internet is another argument in this area IMO. Television i actually do agree with you that television sparks interest because after watching an hour documentary on The Universe, space seems pretty cool. 5. TV/Internet is highly addictive, for tv if i am flipping the channels and a movie i have not seen in a few years pops on im more likely going to watch it. With internet oh god Teamliquid when tournaments are going on absolutely KILL me, take ASUS tournament for example, i was going to do work friday but then i went on TL saw that the tournament was on, saw Stephano playing Koreans and i got no work done there after. Yes it is all dependent on you controlling your own behavior i'm not hiding behind TV/internet saying its not my fault it is 100%, all i am arguing is that with the ease of access everyone has to TV/Internet it is very easy to become distracted and honestly just spend you days in front of the computer. I do very much so and i know it is a habit which needs fixing. Now do i think we should get rid of this? No, we would still be in the dark ages with out it, which brings us back to your last statement Television is a very relaxing hobby if that's what you need to unwind. , i wont argue with that it is important as a hobby. But i wish it where so easy. | ||

haha I agree with you, I haven't watched TV in foreeeeeeever. Closest thing is netflix and I don't even think that counts. Just the shit on TV these days is genuinely infuriating. How do shows like Jersey Shore even exist? And every single news station is biased/retarded as shit. W.e I'll just stick to Star2 streams! | ||

While you mindlessly watch your Jersey Shore, that time wasted could have been put into learning new vocab or skillset. Oh, but wait you tell me that you learn new forensic science shit from CSI? In fact the OPs reasoning against TV could be applied against anything that isn't school or work. Why have a gf? It consumes a lot of time, you don't learn anything useful, you'll have less social interaction with your friends, it consumes a lot of money. Why go to the movies? Why wake up in the morning? If we follow this to it's logical conclusion, we would all be Amish farmers toiling away in the fields and shunning technology. There is nothing wrong with watching movies or series that you like, I do that as well, but brainlessly turning on the TV and watching the first thing in sight is bad for you. You know it , right? As long as it is still in the house you will always be tempted. Now you even have a reason to visit friends more often (" I dont have a Tv, can I watch this with you?"). I know this is not the best written blog and I'm actually quiet sure I wont change anybodies opinion /lifestyle, but maybe if you guys hear it often enough from me and other ones you will think about it. Oh and btw a lot of the reasonning applies to watching random streams of starcraft as well. Get specific. Select the event you want to watch (GSL, MLG , whatever), or say "I want to watch (insert player namer here)'s stream in the afternoon for 1 hour. But dont just go on teamliquid and watch any stream, because that WILL steal you hours and hours of time. Im not on facebook either , not because I want to be anti-establishment (okay maybe a little), but because it's a time thief and I simply dont need it ( and neither would you ). + Show Spoiler + Im going to see RHCP live this summer yeah! This mostly applies to the internet for me. I kind of regret getting internet at home (but mostly it's a net plus) mostly because I get super duper productive without the internet. In the end people will always find things to idle/procrastinate on and waste time. If not TV, the internet. If not internet, books. Etc. | ||

Really? Some of the best fun relaxing times is having on a movie and watching it with some close friends. Or grabbing a bunch of guys, ordering pizza and watching your favourite team play. | ||
