Hey guys,
Here I'll keep track of what's been going on lately on my endeavor to reach GM.
I'm currently in Masters, rather inactive lately with only a few games.
I'll be reporting my progress every day in this thread, what was I trying, what worked and didn't, and what I'll be working on. You guys must look at it and critique, become my advisers and teachers, which would help immensely in my journey.
My daily training schedule is roughly 7pm to 11pm on weekdays (PST). I can keep this up for 4 months. I am on my "off" semester, between undergraduate and graduate school. So I'm just working at the lab in my day time and I can have whole afternoon to myself.
Catch me online! evanelbouncy char:539 (blizzard is a bitch to limit acct name 1 letter short so I can't be "the" bouncy)
I can work on streaming my games if my internet holds out, it is rather slow to be honest. Alternatively, I can record my games and put them on youtube, but it won't be as cool as watching a stream and getting feedbacks right away.
Wish me luck, and keep coming back to this thread for more updates! I won't promise I'll get there, but we'll have an interesting journey that's for sure
I'll be posting with a header of green so look out for those in the thread. I'll be doing posts on weekly reports, divided into days within that post. The post should mostly be starcraft, but it should also have some fun stuff like cooking instructions or math or what not (lol) to keep it interesting.
Woot Woot!

First Week 2012-01-23
The plan for this week is to figure out how to record, stream, with sound, and figure out a good working schedule. I don't intend to do any real training (yet), the first week I feel I'll just get used to the system, and figure out a stable way to proceed. The goal for this week is to figure out a good mouse speed, screen size, get a stream up, and fit into the schedule. Maybe on the side I can try to increase my apm forcefully (by actively thinking faster and moving faster to a rhythm). Next week we'll start with some strategy. We'll figure it out!!
Day1: 2012-01-23
Played 2 ladder games, to get the feelings back. Rather uninspiring. http://drop.sc/97026 http://drop.sc/97034 Both are ZvP, if I were to ask a question on this is "how do you win after taking an advantage?" I feel in both games I was ahead but protoss somehow managed to gay a win out of it hahaha. I'm not too worried about losing at the moment but if you can look at the games it'll be awesome.
Today I didn't get to play too much (just the 2 games haha) since friends and I were celebrating (1 day late) chinese new year Here's a picture:
we made them!!! awesome lol downloaded xsplit, messed around with some settings. I think I have a good setup now. Fixed the bug where the screen flash black every second, putted my face on the screen as well. off to bed.
Day2: 2012-01-24
Went to Berkeley's CSL meeting today, cuz Conan was bugging me to go. I'm glad I went. I am a bad player indeed. If zerg is to learn by losing, I learned a fuckton today. I lost all but 1 game, but even then my opponent was messing around. Here's a replay for amusement, take a look! http://drop.sc/97853 I lost with 2k minerals in the bank. what the fuck hahaha Overall I think I played around 10 games there, they were productive and set the scope right. If master's people are about that level, I need to outplay all of them >
Was messing around with streaming today, turns out if I stream my roomate cannot game. So that's really unfortunate. I guess I'll keep myself interested with other communities while gaming ha. Going to play a few more games, and sleep. Cheers'
Day3: 2012-01-25 I think everything went wrong... last game of the day, kinda tired but god lol http://drop.sc/98400 help? hhah
aside from that played a lot of ladders, speed is a little bit faster now, around 100 apm on averaging games. Was listening to techno while playing, kind of helps.
The problem now is not everything is automatic yet. I need to consciously remind myself to do everything, so when I get tired or if enemy is doing something that requires me to actually think I tend to fall apart and forget everything
Day4 and 5 Thursday I got caught up by work, stayed at the lab until 1am and today I went to Stanford to see my friend's thesis defense talk, and I got back rather late and is extremely tired. I'll put a good practice tomorrow. So still, the short term goal is mechanics and try to do things fast fast fast!
Day6 Played a few today, kinda fun vs protoss I just tell myself to get a fuckton of roaches asap and vs terran i just tell myself to make a fuckton of ling/infestor asap. Simple strategies! still trying to improve clicking speed atm. I boosted up my mouse speed, it feels like I'm pro or something hahaha... anyways a game: http://drop.sc/99903 http://drop.sc/99913 look look 150 apm!! getting there!! I wish to hit 200. cheers~
Day7 Played 10 games with friend Yoshi, he's solid terran. I just kept playing and tried to do more things and click faster and faster. The games are pretty epic, average 30 minutes long. In the end I think i won about 4 out of 10, not bad!! I'm getting bit better and faster!
http://drop.sc/100465 http://drop.sc/100464 http://drop.sc/100463 http://drop.sc/100461 http://drop.sc/100460 http://drop.sc/100458 http://drop.sc/100457 http://drop.sc/100454 http://drop.sc/100453 http://drop.sc/100451 On drop.sc it says I have 230 apm.for our last game!!

Happy chinese new year and good food!

gl bro, hope you follow through
|
good luck! 5/5

You really like zerglings huh?
Too bad sentries blocked off all your attacks (in both games). They had quite a bit of energy built up
|
Happy Chinese New Year! Hope you had a great time! (I know I did, ang paooooo) =)
Hopefully we can see you increasing that APM you were talking about in your OP, GLHF!

You have a theme in those replays of just not teching. You get a great economy, but you end up losing because all you have are Zerglings. Skim through some pro VODs, say three for each match up. And I really mean skim, as in spend only a minute or two on each VOD. Take note of which units they have at ten minutes, fifteen, and so on. Make those same unit types your goal as you play a bunch of games. Don't worry about optimizing the tech path, just think "almost at fifteen minutes, I should should try to get unit X." You just need to get used to it.

I had a dream last night that I made GM. I was so happy. Then I woke up, and then I was sad. The end.

Week 2 2012-01-29
Day1 through Day5 Was kinda lazy but here's a quick update on what's been up. Got faster!! Feeling more in-tune now and trying to improve mechanics still. Got a better hang of ZvT in terms of mechanics and meta-games. ZvZ is still a toss-up, don't know how to use banelings and ZvP is completely garbage still!!
I think I'll have another week of training mechanics and after that we'll work on specific elements of the game. We can theme it like "QUEEN's WEEK" where we only work on queen related tasks or OVERLOD WEEK or something great like that. We can figure it out! :D :D
Went to the Berkeley CSL meeting, hanging out with younger people is fun!! :D
Here's my latest achievement: http://drop.sc/104164 been getting faster!! HHHHUWAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!! HACHA!
