Did you play Icewind Dale 2, or just the original? If not, it should probably be the first pick based on your taste (cause it's the same as mine xD). It's the most polished, smooth and gameplay-oriented Infinity game, I played it twice as much as all of the others put together.

Other than that, Planescape Torment, Fallout 1 and 2 and Arcanum all have the similar feel.

I'll second what everyone has been saying about Chronotrigger. That game is amazing. Even after all these years. I just got it on my phone (its in the iOS App store) and have been impressed with the port.

I also really like the Fire Emblem games if you're into consoles and emulators and stuff.

The new Zelda is pretty slick.

Now that I'm thinking about it, emulators of old console games is probably your best bet for great RPGs. The Lufia games for SNES. Golden Sun for Gameboy, 7th Saga for SNES.

i heard lufia was great too, golden sun was the most fantastic game when it first came out tooo, it had the most beautiful graphics.

I am not speaking in superlative when I say that Lufia 2 is my favorite video game of all time. The Ancient Cave is one of the most interesting challenges of any RPG I've ever played. Endless fun. If you haven't ever taken the time, I highly recommend you get to know the Lufia games. You won't regret it.

Why is DA:O boring as a mage? it takes me like 15 hours to download, so i'd rather get something else first if thats the case -__-. Even though i already bought it.

edit: I think i should actually not play anything that has multiplayer, otherwise its too hard for me not to view it as competition.

Aeh, I wouldn't agree that it's boring... Because of tactical combat, you're constantly bouncing between your characters in order to win your fights. My first play through was with a ranged rogue, but I ended up using/controlling every one of my NPC's just as much, probably more so due to the fact that the mage is such a critical role in tactical decision making. I should also mention that there was a lot of pausing and careful positioning, and that mostly was due to the fact that I was playing on the hardest difficulty (which before the first patch was suuuper hard).

i just dled KOTOR but the game keeps crashing after the lucas art load screen..-_-
edit: actually the game just minimizes and it locks up on my taskbar

edit2: might run into this problem if ur using win7, found the fix
"This happened to me too. I'm using Windows 7 also, just got the game off of Steam 2 days ago. Anyways, you're going to have to navigate to your games directory (if you're using the steam version, Program Files > Steam > steamapps > common > swkotor) and then double click swconfig. There, check the box that says "disable videos".

Try running the game after that and it should work. Hope that helps."

If you want a newer game, definitely Xenoblade Chronicles - easily the best JPRG of this console generation, and among the best RPGs ever if you don't take the release date into account (i.e. in my opinion Chrono Trigger was the best game ever released for it's time, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it as the best game to play now if you haven't played other newer ones).

The Mass Effect games and Dragon Age: Origins are all good as well, though a slightly different game experience than the traditional RPG.

Even despite what I said earlier, Chrono Trigger still remains an extremely good RPG. I'd add Lufia II and Super Mario RPG as another couple great games from that era.

Edit: Forgot about Golden Sun. As awesome as Lufia II was for it's day, I might have to recommend the Golden Sun series over it if you're looking for an RPG with puzzle elements.

Lufia 2, Rise of the Sinistrals was so difficult to me, I'm 19 and I wouldn't call myself stupid, but the puzzles in that game were so challenging. I really wish that I could find another RPG game that has such seriously hard puzzles.

btw you should just play DotA (2) to relax instead, I remember you were decent doter back in days on dotainvite (and maybe dp, not sure if you played there too), can't say the same about the other SC2 progamers who used to play DotA at those time too (not gonna name them).

Also to say on topic... yes Star Ocean 2 was sick game, obviously the same with Chrono Trigger / Secret of Mana, and especially Seiken Densetsu 3, but you probably played them

dota 2 is competetive. not an option. also, dota got boring for me over the years.

except for secret of mana i havent even heard of the other games you mentioned. played none of them.

edit: while some puzzles in an RPG are ok for me, in general i will just load a wiki for the game on my second screen if it takes too long. so please no super puzzle heavy games ^^.

i want a mage, that does tons of damage and, in the best case, has nice aoe spells. i like if you have to use terrain etc. to your advantage to kill stuff. but i want to kill stuff. not sit there and solve puzzles :DD

like everyone said, chrono trigger is considered a legendary and timeless rpg with no equal. it's for snes or ds but you can use emulators.

Seiken Densetsu 3 is a suite of Secret of Mana, so if you liked Secret of mana, you'll love Seiken Densetsu 3, it's one of the best RPG there was on SNES with Chrono Trigger imo.

I agree with this Seiken Densetsu 3 was one of my favorite RPGs as a kid. It had a great storyline, solid gameplay, and baller music.

If by some vagary of fate you haven't played Chrono Trigger, I second the opinions of the others in this thread-- go for it :D

Ummm play Final Fantasy 7 or Final Fantasy 6(released as 3 on snes) or Final Fantasy Tactics. These were by far the best FF games made.

I played Bastion recently, it's a really original and good game, doesnt last very long, but it's cheap (5€ on steam with the christmas sale).
It's a isometric 2D hack'n'Slash rpg. Graphics are really nice, and the narrator commenting has a badass voice.

Really enjoyed it a lot, and I tend to dislike solo games.

Get a PS3, buy Demon's Souls then Dark Souls, if your PS3 and/or controller isn't broken before you complete the game, you are man.

For good reference, http://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/acz2t/let_me_tell_you_about_demons_souls/

Man up and play some Double Dragon:

Alternatively, if you want a serious action/RPG/adventure game, do this without a guide:

^^ this is what real gamers played with back in the day. You actually gotta write down stuff but your brain will love the story.

I tried to get this game working for like a week before giving up. Mine crashes on the pic of the ebon hawk (I'm in win7) and none of the fixes work. This is the best single player rpg I've played and would reccomend it to anyone.
