Other than that, Planescape Torment, Fallout 1 and 2 and Arcanum all have the similar feel.

I am not speaking in superlative when I say that Lufia 2 is my favorite video game of all time. The Ancient Cave is one of the most interesting challenges of any RPG I've ever played. Endless fun. If you haven't ever taken the time, I highly recommend you get to know the Lufia games. You won't regret it.

Even though i already bought it. edit: I think i should actually not play anything that has multiplayer, otherwise its too hard for me not to view it as competition. Aeh, I wouldn't agree that it's boring... Because of tactical combat, you're constantly bouncing between your characters in order to win your fights. My first play through was with a ranged rogue, but I ended up using/controlling every one of my NPC's just as much, probably more so due to the fact that the mage is such a critical role in tactical decision making. I should also mention that there was a lot of pausing and careful positioning, and that mostly was due to the fact that I was playing on the hardest difficulty (which before the first patch was suuuper hard).

edit: actually the game just minimizes and it locks up on my taskbar edit2: might run into this problem if ur using win7, found the fix "This happened to me too. I'm using Windows 7 also, just got the game off of Steam 2 days ago. Anyways, you're going to have to navigate to your games directory (if you're using the steam version, Program Files > Steam > steamapps > common > swkotor) and then double click swconfig. There, check the box that says "disable videos". Try running the game after that and it should work. Hope that helps."

The Mass Effect games and Dragon Age: Origins are all good as well, though a slightly different game experience than the traditional RPG. Even despite what I said earlier, Chrono Trigger still remains an extremely good RPG. I'd add Lufia II and Super Mario RPG as another couple great games from that era. Edit: Forgot about Golden Sun. As awesome as Lufia II was for it's day, I might have to recommend the Golden Sun series over it if you're looking for an RPG with puzzle elements.

I really wish that I could find another RPG game that has such seriously hard puzzles.

Also to say on topic... yes Star Ocean 2 was sick game, obviously the same with Chrono Trigger / Secret of Mana, and especially Seiken Densetsu 3, but you probably played them dota 2 is competetive. not an option. also, dota got boring for me over the years. except for secret of mana i havent even heard of the other games you mentioned. played none of them. edit: while some puzzles in an RPG are ok for me, in general i will just load a wiki for the game on my second screen if it takes too long. so please no super puzzle heavy games ^^. i want a mage, that does tons of damage and, in the best case, has nice aoe spells. i like if you have to use terrain etc. to your advantage to kill stuff. but i want to kill stuff. not sit there and solve puzzles :DD

I agree with this Seiken Densetsu 3 was one of my favorite RPGs as a kid. It had a great storyline, solid gameplay, and baller music. If by some vagary of fate you haven't played Chrono Trigger, I second the opinions of the others in this thread-- go for it :D

It's a isometric 2D hack'n'Slash rpg. Graphics are really nice, and the narrator commenting has a badass voice. Really enjoyed it a lot, and I tend to dislike solo games.

http://www.everyvideogame.com/arcade.php?&act=Arcade&do=play&gameid=249 Alternatively, if you want a serious action/RPG/adventure game, do this without a guide: http://sc2.sourceforge.net/downloads.php ^^ this is what real gamers played with back in the day. You actually gotta write down stuff but your brain will love the story.
