Get neverwinter nights 1 but don't play the original campaign (it's bad). Then go to nwvault.ign.com and look for the top rated community made mods. They're all top-notch, high production values, and some of the best stories I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing. I mean, I've played FF6 through FFX, Planescape Torment, Baldurs Gate, Kotor and such, but some of the community made neverwinter nights mods equal or surpass even those.

Anyway it's only like 5 bucks on the internet now so why not. Also if you do get neverwinter nights I personally recommend

Rose of eternity - ( Like a jrpg-western rpg hybrid, really heart-wrenching, best character interaction in any video game I've played and awesome music. Favorite game ever!)

Almraiven - (Wizard roleplaying game, no combat, puzzles, TONS of roleplaying oppurtunities, awesome music)

Those are just what I think are the best. There are many more awesome mods from different genres.

You can take a look at Drakensang since you're a German nerd and might have experienced the DSA universe.
I havent played it but friends said it was decent.

Depending on how much effort you put in and how much tolerance you have for outdated graphics/interfaces, Morrowind can be too frustrating to play or the best RPG ever. If you do get into it, it'll last you several months.

Aside from that I can't even think of any other games that fit your criteria of fantasy only, no multiplayer, can play as a mage, and PC only. Maybe Jade Empire fits those but I'm assuming you want actually good games. If you can get over your dislike of sci-fi, then KOTOR and Mass Effect are some of the greatest experiences you can have on a PC.
During practice session, I discovered very good build against zerg. -Bisu[Shield]

Get a nice group of friends, buy the GURPS books, and start playing pen and paper RPG.

Its the best experience, a lot more social than computer games, but in the end just as nerdy, good for relaxation

I used to love Star Control, thanks for that link I'm going to go bury myself in nostalgia.

If you don't mind outdated graphics and midi music, just get a SNES/DS emulator and rock FF4, FF6, Chrono Trigger, Tale of Phantasia...etc. Probably the cheapest way to run through a bunch of RPG classics.

I don't think there was ever a translated version of FF4 was there? I know FF6 (aka Final Fantasy 3 in the US) was, and it is an incredible game, and pretty easy to find the ROMs. I've got a good 25 hours sunk into my current game and have a ways to go. Chrono Trigger is also on my ever growing "to play" list.

-edit: While we are talking about SNES RPGs, gotta mention Mario RPG. Cheesy and a bit wonky, but it was also made by Square Enix and just as much fun as and the the FF games they made.

I might have to pick of DA: Origins myself. I've seen good reviews of it and everyone here seems to love it... (just what I need, another game on my list )

No.

FFVI is far from "relaxing"; it's more like "frustrating". Because of its system, it is very easy to make a mistake with your character, since just leveling up is not the proper way to build an end-game character.

As far as FF goes, probably go with FFIV, FFV, FFVII, FFIX, or FFX where leveling up at least has no penalties.

Haha, thanks for the tip^^, i might actually try one of the final fantasies, never played any of them admittedly.

I really want a game where i can just shut down and relax, not something that is annoying, frustrating or requires tons of thinking etc.

Kotor great story and a really great bioware game.
If you really liked Baldurs Gate 2, for me it is the best RPG ever, you could try the expansion: Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal
At last i would recommend Neverwinter Nights 2 + the first expansion. Great Game and a lot better than the predecessor.
The best thing about the game is the big amount of options you have for your character. And if you like playing a mage the spells are quite impressive.

FFVII has a computer version btw. so being without console/emulator it will works well, though the comp version is slightly inferior (random battles aren't random) but as long as you don't abuse the exploits in the comp version it's barely noticable especially on a first playthrough.

Based on suggestions in this thread and some really good online reviews, I just added DA: Origins Ultimate Edition to my Amazon order. Should get it in a few day!

I have to disagree with this, with the exception of Gau most of the characters have a pretty straight forward leveling system until about 2/3 of the way through the game. Even then a decent walk through with some advice as to which espers to equip on which characters makes this a non issue. I say if you have the time FF6/FF3 in the US is a must play game. Very fun, good story, and then you can finally understand why TheKefka has an awesome TL username

I saw Bastion mentioned beforehand but I don't anyone's given it the proper sell it deserves. It's a 3d isometric action RPG.

It follows the story of a world after the apocalypse (calamity) and the survivors attempts to put it back together. It looks absolutely gorgeous with an anime inspired art style and a world which builds itself as you move around. The music blends exotic sounds with more modern electronic beats and a couple of the main characters themes are truly incredible ("Build that wall").

I haven't even mentioned the best bit. Everything you do is narrated by one of the characters. I started off the game, and did what everyone does on being handed a giant hammer, i.e. try and smash everything. The narrator informs me "The kid just rages for awhile". It's a brilliant way of involving you in the game as well as conveying a sense of the world. It's not that long a game maybe only 6 to 10 hours but damn it's a fine couple hours.

If you want something more technical, probably not the game for the moment, the combat and upgrade system while fun and addictive are not particularly deep. But for a game to just sit back and soak up the atmosphere (while whaling on some Gasfellas) this takes some beating.
