You are a slow-moving, poorly-equipped melee fighter without sneak or magic up against opponents who are straight-up stronger than you.

It's unbelievably hard.

It will make a man out of you.

Do it.

I was thinking about something like this, but with focusing on magic instead, but i have a feeling it will just mean i have to zone between dungeon areas all the time to regenerate mana and slowly wittle down opponents with tons of F9 F5 spam because mobs 1 shot me. thats also what annoyed me so much about magic in skyrim, there is just so much running around in fights waiting for mana -_-. Maybe ill do it anyway.

The thing is, i am admittedly super picky about playstyles, if magic sucks or is not fun to play in a game, i will stop playing the game. In general i really dislike melee and to an extend archery^^.

Its not fantasy though, if that kills it for you...

I also recommend KotOR, truly epic games. Another game to consider is Vampire Masquarade: Bloodlines, probably the most underrated game oaf all time (it had tons of bugs when it came out, so make sure to get all the unofficial patches); great story and gameplay with amazing atmosphere. And last but not least, Fable: The Lost Chapters is also a fun game; not as deep as Baldurs Gate, but fun nevertheless.

kotor is the recently released MMORPG right? i think a friend of mine plays that hardcore and it sounds good, but there is one problem: Im super competetive, and if i play an online game with pvp, i get super ambitious about it and put too much time into it :\. otherwise i would probably play some darkfall again and see how it is these days.

Nope, it's a straight up RPG. You're thinking of SWTOR.

Darkfall is by far the best MMORPG. =)

But I'll throw you an old school type RPG that came out recently. Avadon: The Black Fortress. That game is SO amazingly fun.
So wait? I'm bad? =(

Chrono Trigger. Chrono Trigger. Chrono Trigger? Chrono Trigger.

Always the correct choice. It is heart-wrenchingly awesome.

Gothic 2 Night of the Raven was one of my greatest gaming experiences ever. Huge world, great dialogs, dangerous wildlife. It's old though, so the graphics and controls are a bit antiquated. Risen is a nice unofficial sequel.

I really liked Risen, the controls are good, you can basically do whatever you want and the graphics are acceptable. Also it doesnt cost that much anymore! GO check it out!

You basically start out as a nobody with no knowledge of magic, and it takes quite some questing before they let you enter the firemages' monastery. So yes, it's complicated at first. Mage builds are viable though.

Well NWN2 is fun you'd porbably like the hellfire warlock class, literally a glass cannon, you sacrifice your constitution in order to gain huge damage. NWN1 is a better game for people who played multiplayer though.

hmm. DA:O is boring as a mage though.

i'd say get NWN2 platinum on steam and playthrough with hellfire warlock in mind. three campaigns two of them link, so you'd play 1 character through 2 of them and have to start a new one for SoZ.

though i'd reccomend the Higher Ground server in NWN1 for a multiplayer experience, it's fantastic, pretty much they've added 40 new lvls (you lvl up to 80), tons of new classes/races, spells ect. very hard dungeons to work with groups with, but it's kind of a big timesink, randomized items rare drops and the way you get to end game content make it hard.
lvl 1-40, become an immortal, level 41-60 become a demigod by killing the lords of the nine hells, 61-80, defeat the gods themselves.

Come play Diablo 2! There's a private server for redditors that I play on, full of nice and helpful people and without many of the negatives (botting, spammers) on Bnet. Maphack and multiboxing is allowed, and there's no need for a legit cd-key.

Visit http://www.reddit.com/r/slashdiablo/new/ for more info.

Why is DA:O boring as a mage? it takes me like 15 hours to download, so i'd rather get something else first if thats the case -__-. Even though i already bought it.

edit: I think i should actually not play anything that has multiplayer, otherwise its too hard for me not to view it as competition.

I'll second what everyone has been saying about Chronotrigger. That game is amazing. Even after all these years. I just got it on my phone (its in the iOS App store) and have been impressed with the port.

I also really like the Fire Emblem games if you're into consoles and emulators and stuff.

The new Zelda is pretty slick.

Now that I'm thinking about it, emulators of old console games is probably your best bet for great RPGs. The Lufia games for SNES. Golden Sun for Gameboy, 7th Saga for SNES.

i heard lufia was great too, golden sun was the most fantastic game when it first came out tooo, it had the most beautiful graphics.

If you enjoy JRPGs, I would try playing a classic like FF6. You can also try playing Deus Ex (the first one, can't really give an opinion on the second one).

Hey darkforce please just get Bastion, right now its only 5bucks on steam and will give you at least 10hours of fun game play. The game is so simple and yet you have a bunch of different game play options. Should try it out!!!!!

Final Fantasy 6. Far and away the best Final Fantasy game in my opinion, rivaled only by 7. You'll have to get an emulator to play it, but it shouldn't be that hard. Oh, and get it on SNES, the GBA version's music is different IIRC

I don't know about that. Doesn't the GBA version have the new Dragon's Den and Soul Shrine? As well as post-game content?

Anw, yea.. FF6 has more depth than most people are aware, and is fun to play both casually and in-depth. Defnly worth the time, imho. (Btw, for casual play, Gao is good :3)

I ll second the dude who mentioned Chrono Trigger as well, great game. Less gameplay depth, but a more complex and colorful storyline compared to FF6, whatever fits your taste better, i guess.

btw you should just play DotA (2) to relax instead, I remember you were decent doter back in days on dotainvite (and maybe dp, not sure if you played there too), can't say the same about the other SC2 progamers who used to play DotA at those time too (not gonna name them).

Also to say on topic... yes Star Ocean 2 was sick game, obviously the same with Chrono Trigger / Secret of Mana, and especially Seiken Densetsu 3, but you probably played them
