So I at last got my self to play Amnesia The dark Descent (or time for it). During the time, I was actually spooked once during the game. Game was enjoyable experience over all but I was a bit disappointed or possibly had too big expectations.
So yeah I do recommend game for anyone who likes "scary" games or scary stuff in general, and if you're scared take short break and keep going! You wont regret the time spent ^^
Anyways here's the link to my play through (No of course I wouldn't make blog post to get more views, would I?): https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLEABD86E371530DFC
Anyways, do share your opinions if you have played the game, tried to play the game or just how much you hated my videos
EDIT** Yes I did play in dark, with headset on and pretty much as loud as possible. I did adjust the volumes for the recording.

I watched two play throughs the first was one hour, the second was like 1412132 hours... It was pretty not scary.... But I also found the same about that game where urin space. Dead Space yeah... But when I actually played it at 3 AM after watching Paranormal Activity 1, I was pretty fraeked out.

I had 2 friends over last time I tried to play it and it was really hilarious, one friend was scared out of his mind of the game while the other was playing and he was watching (Dark room, night time, everthing we could do to add to the scary effect) and my other friend saw the monster and said "There you are you fucker" and tried to run straight up to it and it disappeared. I couldn't stop laughing because of it.

It's a game where you have to make an effort by yourself to really immerse yourself to it. I see many people bragging "oh yeah the game wasn't even scary", and they did not focus on the storyline, were playing with friends, lights on and most importantly, did not put themselves into the position of Daniel.
If played right, the game is just abhorrent. Brilliantly so....

yeah its all about the environment you play the game in imo. if its noon then its a lot less scary than playing at like 2 in the morning.

Having a set of decent headphones really helps too. Speakers killed the experience for me on the second playthrough.

I found it terrifying, especially the water lurker, that screwed me up the most.

The one thing that spooked me out, and yeah I tried to put my self in to his position, and yes I did 1st portion (up to Agrippa's room) from what hour up to 4am and 2nd was from 23:00 up to ~2am (with one hour of useless wondering) so yeah I do try to make environment right. Butt yeah I am type htat enjoys some good horror while falling asleep.

Only got a few hours in, haven't played in so long and am way to scared to play it again. Anyone that doesn't find it scary has something wrong with them or isn't playing in the dark with headphones on.
|
Fuck yes was scary as hell. Still haven't finished it due to scaryness.
|
I think it is different taste in horror. I found Saya no Uta to be scary while Amnesia was bleh. But I think the situation was different.
I was playing Saya no Uta when I was younger, had little experience with horror late at night, lights off, watching for parents all at the same time while I was able to play Amnesia in broad daylight.

Bragvertisement blog, NICE!

I actually did find it pretty scary.

I played it and go involved in it. It was scary, but you have to play in the dark and with the environment things. If you get into the storyline (loosely) then it's pretty good. It was a game where I was glad to Save and Exit and really reluctant to start playing again
It's a very well done game. The torture rooms were my favourite, man the pictures on the wall were pretty good.
+ Show Spoiler + The one with the 2 guys sawing an upside down person between the legs made me cringe and grab myself for a good 10 minutes
|
I found it pretty freaking crazy. Headset on, completely dark room, no one around. Pretty crazy.
|
@Saechiis why not make use of available tools
@Denzil + Show Spoiler + well in my opinion that was just for the case, they did know what to do with rapists back in the day in general I hate torturing of other living beings. And yeah the game is very well made, the story is great

I thought it was pretty scary. The worst part was that huge room towards the end of the game with a couple roaming enemies. The room where you have to find that mushroom and other things. My girlfriend actually freaked out during that part.
The jail part two was also pretty ridiculous for me the first time, I ran out of oil and was running around in the dark for like 20 minutes having no idea wtf to do.
I couldn't bring myself to play it for more than about 90 minutes at a time on my first playthrough. Lots of anxiety was had
Pretty amazing game over all.

I think the key thing about this game (apart from the proper setting, as in headphones, dark room, preferably alone) is not to watch too many (or, any) "playthroughs" and whatnot. It hits you a lot harder if you're not too prepared

Here's the deal about amnesia. It gives you some of the SCARIEST moments of your life, for like an hour or two (especially the water monster. That scared me so badly). But then, you figure out how repetetive and predictable all the monster encounters are. Honestly, why do they tell you everytime a monster spawns by warping your screen a little? I would be scared shitless if I just turned around and there was one there. But nope, your screen warps, you hide in a room for 10 seconds, he disappears. Once your familiarity with the game gets to the point where you can do that, the game is boring as hell.
And yes, I played it in my basement, headphones in, lights off, past midnight every time. I did immerse myself in the story, but even then I was able to just naturally figure out how all the monster encounters work without even trying to.

First game that made me realize I'm a little girl and not a man :p If this game doesn't scare you then something is seriously wrong with you^^ some sort of brain damage impeding the way it interprets scaryness maybe
