BW Battle Report: Lyuing Newb?

It all began at the iccup lobby. I joined a game 1:1 d/d+ FS. I joined and I saw a mid C- dude there. Okay... I lost so many times. Once more doesn't hurt. After all, its a good thing to gauge your play against good players right..? okay. gg gogo.

So the game starts with me as an orange zerg (wowoeoeoe I love orange zerg) and him as the fierce, fiery blue protoss. Me top right and he bottom left.

me struggling to get better as I look upon my drones..


I usually do 11 pool 11 hatch or overpool but since I have met so much failure against 2 gate, I decided to do 12 hatch.

thankfully, i managed to get my hatch down just as his probe arrived. whew. I always hated to deal with that.


he went down my ramp and in a stroke of luck, my lings just arrived at the ramp. i waited for him to approach up and just as he went up..

he didn't have the nicest simcity. but i decided not to go ling all-in because i really wanted to train my late-game play. also this simcity prevented me from seeing the forge easily and would require me to suicide a ling or so. so that's what i did! i managed to see the +1 so I had to stall drones for a little while and start sunks with hydras.


eehan timing! i managed to hold him off with some hydras and simcity with sunks. because I used the 5 hatch before gas, I had quite a tremendous econ with the extra drones and I quickly amassed a hydra force to try and take him out right here.



but unfortunately for me, storm was already up for him so it became slightly difficult and macro was slipping...


meanwhile, he expands..


i tried to attack the front but he had quite good macro and my force compiled with my lack of macro got my attack crushed.

by the force of jaedong or whatever, i decided to not attack the front and i sent my next reinforcements to the suspected third.

YES!!! i felt quite confident at this point.

meanwhile, i went to double expand myself

but...

DENYUUUUU. some hydras were up there taking down the nex so it went down eventually. he didn't have obs at that point in time so he had to back off.

with that, i moved in for a contain

my lurker splitting was slow so i didn't manage to capitalize as much but it was good enough to hold him back. while i managed to split his army and keep his shenigans from getting reinforced.

sneaky...

meanwhile, he sets himself a third again at le secret location


i take out the stray force.

but.. contain was failing and so was my macro.


but let us fear not because..

quite luckily, my lunkers were complete when he attacked and i managed to reinforce my contain

even with all that fail, i felt that the damage was done, i had the econ, the tech and all i needed to do was to stall him long enough for the ultimates to arrive.



because of the contain, he couldn't quite get that third up and running. the exact same thing happened to me in a previous game where i thought i was ahead with the contain but he had set up another 2 bases at a separate location. by the force of jaedong, i sent a group of hydras to go check check check out that spot.

true enough, he expanded there but storms and cannons do not go well with hydras..

but i sent in a bunch of lings that eventually did the job

and meanwhile..

then after that, i gathered for my final confident attack that would seal the game

so not to be bragging but i was extremely surprised at how much better i played this game that my previous. it was suuch a huuuuge difference that it left my startled for a while.

i was sitting at a 10-12 d level record at that point in time and after the game, i kinda sat there for a while and thought "wow". it felt as if i was playing even better than my previous form before i started college(and hence stopping sc).
