I have such a fear of bugs that it is insane. I'm sure most people don't like bugs, insects and other similar non-mammals (I know theres always the odd one out who enjoys consorting with these demonic creatures) but I think I really am a several steps beyond the usual and mundane range of disgust or apathy one feels towards them.
For example, in the most recent encounter with bugs I was in a car ride. It was pretty dark and raining out, and I was just chillin' in the backseat without a care in the world. Suddenly I turn to the window and see the silhouette of a moth in my window. It seemed to be swaying to the wind and rain, so I assumed it was outside and would soon blow away from the car window. Still, I sat closer to the middle of the car leaning away from the window. I glance back; it is still there, been there for longer than I'd expect a bug to be able to hang on with all the wind and rain. I glance again and it has moved to a different part of the window in such a way that it would be unlikely for outside forces to move the moth; I then realize it is inside the car. I begin to panic a bit. I soon cover my hands with my eyes and continue to do so for the rest of the car trip home, batting and flailing my limbs any time I feel some kind of itch or anything. I'm sure it landed on my at least once, so I'm not thaaat crazy to stick my head in the sand, so to speak. Though if I could have put my head into a mound of sand I would have, assuming I was 100% sure it was bug free (That would be awful, eww)
Still, it surprised even me the amount I was paralyzed by the knowledge there is a moth in the car with me. I mean, it's a fucking moth, they don't do anything!
I think my phobia of insects (Entomophobia, for those of you who doubt I have not honed my googling-and-then-passing-it-off-as-general-knowledge-everyone-should-know-anyways-you-idiot skills) has increased recently. It has taken me very stupidly long time to even write this much, as I keep recalling past experiences of bugs I have had even as a small child. For example, I remember the year during the summer where there was an almost literal explosion in the number of caterpillars in the town I was living in. If you walked under a tree, guaranteed several would fall on you. The sidewalks and roads were completely covered in the creatures. Once I woke up in the middle of the night and turned on my lamp only to find several caterpillars lounging about my lamp (It had some cute bears sitting on ABC blocks, so I guess they liked learning and bears lol). It was a long time ago so I don't exactly remember how I reacted though I know while I didn't enjoy their presence it wasn't like I sat in a protective bubble all summer in the fetal position.
I also remember a time when my family went out camping in a cabin, and as I was playing super mario on my original black and white gameboy like a hipster boss and suddenly like 2 spiders in the blankets next to me jump out and run around like they were trying to ambush me or something. That freaked me out as they were basically right next to me, though it was pretty sudden so I'm sure part of it was raw surprise.
One of the worse encounters I've had with bugs was also a long time ago. I was playing Morrowind on the Xbox (Original Xbox, not that jock-like 360 crap (I j/k ofc)) and am having tons of fun, despite the fact that I realized the merchants could only buy so many of my goods every day because they'd run out of money. I also kept getting pwned by that dark elf highwayman, he's such a bastard lol. Suddenly I look down slightly and see a spider on my hand. From what I remember it was huge and probably a tarantula/black widow + warewolf hybrid but most of that is probably my imagination. I threw the controller, flailed my hand about, probably screamed like a sissy and ran upstairs. I had to stay out of the basement for the entire afternoon, which really sucked because I probably didn't save and the computer was also down there, so I couldn't play Alpha Centauri or Age of Empires II either.
I just realized this is turning into another one of the many 'woe is me' wall of text blogs, so I will try to rap up and think of an appropriate TL;DR to stick on the end. Anyways, recently I think my fear of bugs has become a bit worse. Currently my main incentive for keeping the basement somewhat tidy (Still is a mess tho -.-) has been so that any bugs get negative cover saves, terrain disadvantages and less opportunities for ambushes. I don't use really the blanket that I have down here anymore even if I'm cold because spiders have crawled into it when I leave it in the corner of the wall like a lazy mofo instead of wrapping it up and keeping it off the ground. If there is a bug that creeps out from the depths of the walls that ambush me I have to spend a long time (Several hours at the most, 10 or so at the least) before I can come back to my computer. This summer there was an explosion of fruit flies; they were literally everywhere. I actually couldn't use the bathroom because there were too many flies. I went a few days without taking a dump or a shower just because there were an infinitely respawning number of them in there. One time it got so bad I decided to take 8 anti nauseant pills so I would fall asleep and pass the time, as those usually make me really drowsy (8 cuz that was the max reccomended per day on the bottle, don't want to kill myself lol). Thank god I kept my room door shut and there was essentially 0 flies in there through the whole event.
Flies in the past usually haven't bothered me. It was actually one of my summer pastimes to take the flyswatter and see how many I could kill in the house. Unless they are in massive numbers or are huge they still aren't that bad, but they are more irritating. Mosquitoes are fine as well, you have to be fine with them where I live or else you will die after spending 1 summer here. Everything else though? Instant fear and sometimes terror. More so indoors and not really as much outdoors, as there is much more space to maneuverer, and they aren't invading my own turf really.
So I guess that's all I have to say at the moment. I felt compelled to share this after the moth debacle. If you want to share your own bug related stories, feel free. Just put any pictures in spoilers please!
TL;DR: Fuck you spiders, go die in a fire. Or from cocaine overdose, I'm fine with that too.
