Man, now i feel bad because after 2 month of playing a few years ago i just managed to get to level 40. I think it was shortly after release of the first expansion where i tried WoW.
Might also just be because i didn't know anyone in WoW and soloed all the time because i couldn't find a guild where i didn't want to leave again immedatly after seeing their guild chat... or i'm just bad :-/
The first month was quite fun but then everything got too repetitive and the "storylines" were just bad... though maybe that was because i came from Guild Wars, which was very story driven.
I would suggest waiting for the newer MMOs that come out soon, like Guild Wars 2 next year or Star Wars The old Republic in December IIRC. As far as i see it, people only play WoW because their friends play it, not because it's really the best or because they like it.

They have increased xp gain 1-60 by a shit ton since you were probably playing. As well as making the game a lot easier by removing stuff like world elites, which made the game at least a little challenging.

The world has changed tremendously after burning crusade, entire areas have been revamped with new quests which are easy to do, all follow a linair pattern(which you can follow by just doing the quests) allowing you to move swiftly through zones and have little time traveeling from A to B.

Also, automatic flight point gain. If you stay long enough in an area and level, you get all the flight points for the next area automatically. Its level dependant which one are unlocked. God I hated FP hunting when I leveld my first two chars.

You mean you didn't like it when there wasn't flight path linking, so you had to go 1 flight path at a time and if you didn't have the one connecting to the next one, you were wondering why X city had a flight path?

WoW claims another one eh =) JK have fun

If you have zero responsibilities and nothing else you want to do, buy it. If not, play a non-MMORPG.

WoW started going super casual in wrath. I thought it was going to get better when Ulduar came out because hard mode YoggSaron was fucking hard (not that I'm even really a fan of hard modes because it revolves around doing shit incorrectly) but even then easy mode let you progress without real issue.
I was in a hardcore progression guild from vanilla through wrath. The time required dropped sharply in wrath, even including hardmodes sans yogg saron. Cataclysm has ben a total fucking coast. You can easily casually progress through heroic encounters. Wow is much more time friendly now.

Compared to Yogg Saron it was a joke. No keeper Yogg Saron was the hardest fight in Wrath by a large margin. Raids were many times more unforgiving in vanilla and tbc. No keeper Yogg Saron would not have been out of place in Naxx40 and the like.

Honestly, WoW is a game that is fun while levelling, but once you get into high tier it will lose all of its purpose. Each item you get at level 85 is obsolete next patch.
Thats why I quit after only 2 months.
Very true.
I downloaded the starter edition a few weeks ago. Ended up buying the whole thing. I got my mage from 1-85 in under 2 weeks RL time, but I used to play the game when WOTLK was out so I was already familiar with 60-80.
The game quickly stagnated at 85 after running all of the heroics and basically plateauing on ilvl. 85 is lame, and poeple want you to have an inflated ilvl for pug raids etc before they even invite you. Same with guilds. So that's why I quit after my free month ran out

As a noob who has never played WoW and knows almost nothing about it I got lost in all the jargon by the third page.
This must be how parents feel watching their kids talk about Starcraft, LOL!

It got really boring, I will not buy the full version.

Aww, reading this topic made me reminisce a lot! I'll never forget the magic of running around 1-60 back in 2005. Sure, the game has changed, and maybe for the worse, but I think it would still be a great experience for anyone new. Playing with friends is really the way to go and will mean having tons of fun rather than just some. So if you have any friends you could get to play, great. Seems like a lot of people are disillusioned now but I think the magic just runs out after playing so many characters, memorizing the quests, clearing all content, etc. It turns more into a race to get to the end rather than an experience.

I tried playing it and I could never figure out how to get out of the starting area. no quests either that follow you along I didn't like that either.

You might want to try out private Vanilla or TBC servers if you want more of a challenge

Don't do it man, the alternative title to this could be "So I just started losing my life..."

How is that even possible? Even from my earliest memory (early TBC) there has been a quest in each starting area to lead you outside. In recent years the quest flow has only improved.

I've made a friend set up parental controls for me Is 1 hour each day enough, or isn't it even enough to start doing some quests? If it's even enough for one quest I'm happy! (so far each quest have taken 10-15 minutes, but I'm only on level 20, I bet they get longer when I level higher)
