Leveling is a lot easier nowadays, get a friend to sign up for the Recruit-A-Friend program and it'll be a lot quicker, if you don't want to deal with PvP as an inexperienced player you might want to consider making a new character on a PvE designated realm (if you're not already in one that is).

I found leveling a lot more fun if I was on skype, chatting and playing with my friends and the main content of WoW lies ahead of you at the max level.

GL to 85.

It really really depends on how casually you play.

I played for years before i finally said "fuck you" for good and cancelled. , and even after everything 1-60 changed, could grind my way to 85 between a friday and the next maintenance period (tuesday). If you have a friend to do recruit a friend with...you get 300% experience all the way to 80 now...so it takes a lot less time than even that. If you want to actually read and explore and immerse yourself in the world of warcraft, you're probably not going to hit 85 in less than two weeks.

personally I would use the guild finder feature, find a group of friendly people, and just take it slow. because honestly...there's NOT anything else to do than raid/pvp once you hit 85. There really just isnt. You grind dungeons till you're geared for raids, then you raid, or you find that you really like battlegrounds and you pvp till your eyes bleed.

Leveling in Wow today is a joke, It took me 3 days to get to level 85 as a priest.

WoW was fun until you realize what you're actually doing with your time. It's a mindless grind once you learn the fundamentals of the game and do a few dungeons/raids. Well, playing with friends on Skype/TeamSpeak is alright, though that can be said for any game really.

Regarding the time to hit 85 - without Recruit-A-Friend, guild bonuses, or heirlooms and sticking with power levelling through questing "smartly", it used to take about 5 days of GAME TIME. It's a long long road of mindless clicking.

it's not a long road of mindless clicking unless you only want to power up to the level cap. if you really want to take in the game and explore and have adventures it'd probably take a year. did they take out 'exploration'? where you can abuse wall jumping to get into places like old Hyjal, old outlands etc. other than that there's gotta be tons of small stuff all over the place to discover, unless they redid the whole old world in a shitty way

With the upcoming content patch 4.3 its a pretty good time - if there is ever one - to start playing mid-expansion. You see, usually the problem is that you will never catch up gear-wise if you don't know people who are willing to take you along. That is just PvE though. PvP you can gear up pretty fast. However, with 4.3 comes a new tool wich allows you to enter raids at a really really low difficulty with random people. This way you can get experience on the bosses and good starter gear to get into guilds. However, just if you find that PvE is what you fancy. PvP, as I said, is much easier to get into.
Do not regret. Always forward, never back.

I used to play in vanilla and tbc. It took me 3 weeks to go from 1-85 on a new account without recruit a friend or any boosts. Tbh man it's really fun until you realize how insanely empty the game is.

The game is fun if you take a casual approach to it, leveling up is quite enjoyable as long as you don't go through the dungeon system... At least for me, its always the turning point, when I first enter a dungeon, I have trouble going back to questing. Once you get to max level, you might find it fun the first few times around, but to me it got dull pretty fast (Cataclysm took me a month before I stopped logging on for anything but raids, then quit in may).

What I would suggest, would be to buy vanilla and BC (I think they're $5 together?) and work your way up from there, unless you absolutely want to rock a goblin or worgen, then I'm sorry, but you'll be stuck having you buy Cata (Pretty sure, not 100% though) However, I do think you can have a lot of fun with the game if you don't grind it really hard.

I beg to differ. Clearly, WoW has no lore and all that happens does not make any sense. Trust me, I didn't read the quest text.

Are you serious with that Celial? Warcraft Lore was enjoyable before WoW.. since then I don't feel the same way.

Probably has something to do with them retconning and twisting the lore around to whatever they feel like this patch.

As a former hardcore arena/raider in wotlk, I can tell you that it is difficult to be hardcore in Cata. It's really just that damn boring and feels shitty as hell. Hell, if you look at people in my guy (which is like #90 world or something), not many people stay on after raid/some arena. Game is just kind of boring.

Thanks people. I'll just be questing up to level 20, and if I don't get too hooked I buy the whole game plus the first expansion and do the quests there.

With the friend bonus I got to 85 in a month.

Honestly, WoW is a game that is fun while levelling, but once you get into high tier it will lose all of its purpose. Each item you get at level 85 is obsolete next patch.

Thats why I quit after only 2 months.

Yea pretty much sums WoW up. You get to max level, which can be fun with the right people, and then it's all about paying money to farm the next big item. Imho they missed some chances, because it could be different, really.

I hope you enjoy your trip into WoW but come out healthy! lol!

30-80 was refned greatly in the last few content patches during cataclysm. Outland (58-68) can drag a little, but it's still good fun.

my god wasted so many days, i havent even got alevel 85, cant afford the monthly subscription, bought the last one but only o to 82 before my time run out.

One day I will get to 85.. but then its so time consuming. At least when I use to play years ago a instance run use to take hours now most isntance runs take 30 minutes-1 hour which is a lot better, most raid content is quicker then what little isntances use to be like in vanilla wow lol

Sadly, considering that, it's still the best MMO on the market now. Consider waiting for the new Star Wars MMO, which might not be better but at least has the potential.

That depends on how you measure best. While it may be the most popular and even the most polished i don't feel that those two factors alone make something the best. Gameplay wise it (for me at least) is nowhere near the best. Auto target and pressing the correct combination of buttons just isn't all that fun for long, it doesn't have the power to engage you like a fps would. Or the complexity of a real RPG / story driven game to draw you in. You also won't find yourself shaking with adrenaline in the middle of a fight as there is no consequence at all to losing.

For me the WoW style genre of MMO is far from ideal, even though it is by far the largest portion of the MMO market and i have played plenty of MMO's that fit into this style. Give me a full loot pvp game like Darkfall or UO and i'd take it any day of the week over this genre of clones.

For me nothing can compare to the heart pounding that you get when you know everything is on the line and your own skill is all that can pull you through. I know that this more 'hardcore' style of game isn't for everyone, not everybody can handle the loss of gear or having to manually aim spells and melee. For me though, every time i go make to another MMO i miss the emotion that comes with such mechanics, and find it hard to invest in the drudgery of grinding in such a repetitive environment that holds no new surprises once you've played for a few weeks to a month or two.

If you're a first time player that doesn't mind an easy ride WoW is a great game. If you're looking for something hardcore, 95% of WoW will be boring for you.

If you're going to do PvE group content, just make sure you know what the role distribution in a group is (and what each role is supposed to do), don't queue for a role you cannot perform, don't roll need on items you cannot use/are not intended for the role you are currently performing and you'll do fine.

Ideally you'll want a friend to teach you those things, as the pug (pick up group) community is rotten to the core. WoW just became to big for it's own good and Blizzard made wrong game design decisions and now we're stuck with a community full of jerks, bads and elitists.
