I played for years before i finally said "fuck you" for good and cancelled. , and even after everything 1-60 changed, could grind my way to 85 between a friday and the next maintenance period (tuesday). If you have a friend to do recruit a friend with...you get 300% experience all the way to 80 now...so it takes a lot less time than even that. If you want to actually read and explore and immerse yourself in the world of warcraft, you're probably not going to hit 85 in less than two weeks. personally I would use the guild finder feature, find a group of friendly people, and just take it slow. because honestly...there's NOT anything else to do than raid/pvp once you hit 85. There really just isnt. You grind dungeons till you're geared for raids, then you raid, or you find that you really like battlegrounds and you pvp till your eyes bleed.

Regarding the time to hit 85 - without Recruit-A-Friend, guild bonuses, or heirlooms and sticking with power levelling through questing "smartly", it used to take about 5 days of GAME TIME. It's a long long road of mindless clicking.

What I would suggest, would be to buy vanilla and BC (I think they're $5 together?) and work your way up from there, unless you absolutely want to rock a goblin or worgen, then I'm sorry, but you'll be stuck having you buy Cata (Pretty sure, not 100% though) However, I do think you can have a lot of fun with the game if you don't grind it really hard. Tbh man it's really fun until you realize how insanely empty the world is. ftfy

Probably has something to do with them retconning and twisting the lore around to whatever they feel like this patch.

I only find the end game content fun if you have a group of really close-knit people, As a former hardcore arena/raider in wotlk, I can tell you that it is difficult to be hardcore in Cata. It's really just that damn boring and feels shitty as hell. Hell, if you look at people in my guy (which is like #90 world or something), not many people stay on after raid/some arena. Game is just kind of boring.

Honestly, WoW is a game that is fun while levelling, but once you get into high tier it will lose all of its purpose. Each item you get at level 85 is obsolete next patch. Thats why I quit after only 2 months. Yea pretty much sums WoW up. You get to max level, which can be fun with the right people, and then it's all about paying money to farm the next big item. Imho they missed some chances, because it could be different, really. I hope you enjoy your trip into WoW but come out healthy! lol!

One day I will get to 85.. but then its so time consuming. At least when I use to play years ago a instance run use to take hours now most isntance runs take 30 minutes-1 hour which is a lot better, most raid content is quicker then what little isntances use to be like in vanilla wow lol

Consider waiting for the new Star Wars MMO, which might not be better but at least has the potential. That depends on how you measure best. While it may be the most popular and even the most polished i don't feel that those two factors alone make something the best. Gameplay wise it (for me at least) is nowhere near the best. Auto target and pressing the correct combination of buttons just isn't all that fun for long, it doesn't have the power to engage you like a fps would. Or the complexity of a real RPG / story driven game to draw you in. You also won't find yourself shaking with adrenaline in the middle of a fight as there is no consequence at all to losing. For me the WoW style genre of MMO is far from ideal, even though it is by far the largest portion of the MMO market and i have played plenty of MMO's that fit into this style. Give me a full loot pvp game like Darkfall or UO and i'd take it any day of the week over this genre of clones. For me nothing can compare to the heart pounding that you get when you know everything is on the line and your own skill is all that can pull you through. I know that this more 'hardcore' style of game isn't for everyone, not everybody can handle the loss of gear or having to manually aim spells and melee. For me though, every time i go make to another MMO i miss the emotion that comes with such mechanics, and find it hard to invest in the drudgery of grinding in such a repetitive environment that holds no new surprises once you've played for a few weeks to a month or two.

If you're going to do PvE group content, just make sure you know what the role distribution in a group is (and what each role is supposed to do), don't queue for a role you cannot perform, don't roll need on items you cannot use/are not intended for the role you are currently performing and you'll do fine. Ideally you'll want a friend to teach you those things, as the pug (pick up group) community is rotten to the core. WoW just became to big for it's own good and Blizzard made wrong game design decisions and now we're stuck with a community full of jerks, bads and elitists.
