In addition to SOTG, I listen to these podcasts:
-RadioLab: An hour-long science oriented podcast released about twice a month. All of them are interesting but some of my favorites are: Parasites, Time, Words, Oops, Famous Tumors, and Lucy. They also release a bunch of shorts which are about 20 minutes long and usually relate to the main podcast released that month.
Here's their description of the Famous Tumors episode: "This hour of Radiolab: famous tumors. Say hello to the growth that killed Ulysses S. Grant, and get to know the woman whose cancer cells changed modern medicine. The good, bad,... and ugly side of anatomical aberrations."
-This American Life: Hour long podcast updated every Monday but you can only DL/sync the past 3 episodes without paying. Official description: "Official free, weekly podcast of the award-winning radio show 'This American Life.' First-person stories and short fiction pieces that are touching, funny, and surprising.
Latest episode description: Cat and Mouse: "Stories about the kinds of chase games that just never end. From the high California desert to a high-end furniture showroom."
-The Moth: Podcast updated every Monday with episodes lasting 10-20 minutes. Official Description: "The Moth features people telling true, engaging, funny, touching and eye-opening stories from their lives. Hailed as 'New York's hottest and hippest literary ticket; by the Wall Street Journal, The Moth has been producing soldout storytelling shows for over ten years. Stories are told without notes to a live audience by a wide range of people. The best have been captured here."
I wish this one was longer or was released more often because I really love the Moth. The stories told are incredible and have a wide range, from hilarious to downright depressing, but they're all real and the live setting really helps you get engaged. If you can, listen to Anthony Griffith's (fair amount of famous people are featured) "Best of Times, Worst of Times," but be prepared, it's one of the saddest stories I've ever heard and you may shed some tears, or at least well-up a bit.
