Hey TL. I'm presently studying to become a clinical psychologist. I'm also looking to 1) get some practice working with individuals suffering from mental//emotional disorders and 2) contribute to the TL community.
So if you are suffering from: anxiety, depression, phobia(s), procrastination or OCD send me a PM and we can chat about it via PMs or over skype. You should think of it as asking a friend for advice//thoughts.
Cheers, UNi
*Needless to say, this is not a professional//licensed activity. I am not a licensed psychologist and if you are suicidal or experiencing thoughts overwhelming panic you should contact a health professional immediately.

Can you 'suffer' from procrastination? I never knew, interesting
|
You might want to post some credentials like a student ID or something.
I wouldn't just go on skype with a random person to talk about my personal problems. Well maybe I would, but i'm sure it would make a lot of people uncomfortable to talk about their personal problems with someone they know by a few posts.

I suffer from procrastination.
I always thought I couldn't help it, but now you told me I'm suffering from a sickness and am not, in fact, just a lazy bum.
Thank you so much!

For people struggling with procrastinations, the fix is actually pretty simple:
The opposite of procrastination is decision. If you make a decision to do something you can't possibly procrastinate doing it. Otherwise you didn't make the decision to do it. However, decision is a secondary cause of fixing procrastination. The primary cause of fixing procrastination lies in your self image. Individuals who have a good self image and therefore a high level of self esteem don't fear making a mistake or failing at something at some instance. Rather, the individual takes the mistake and learns from it and modifies the existing approach to attain whatever it was they desired. People with low self esteems and bad self images make a mistake then the dread the mistake and let it overcome them, placing them into an attitude of procrastination.
If you want to correct your decision making process here is the key: Make a decision very quickly and change it very slowly.
What individuals who struggle with procrastination do is they make decisions very slowly and they change the decisions fast and often. This is procrastination.

I'm currently in my 4th year of Psychology. I find your offer very unethical and unprofessional.
If you want to practice, find a training course. You need a Psychologist to guide you. And doing a therapy on skype / by mail is also a bad idea. You probably know the importance of body language, the effect of your presence in front of someone etc.
Also, a psychologist is not a friend. Maybe it's how it works in N/A. But you don't give advice like you do with a friend.
Do you mean clinical psychologist like in psychoanalyst ? (I won't go in the debate psychology/psychoanalysis, simple curiosity)

I suffer from social anxiety, avoidant personality disorder, hypochondria and (used to) suffer from chronic depression.
But I've already seeked phycological help and I'm somewhat better, not even close to being "normal", but better.
I would recommend you:

I agree 100%. I live with general anxiety disorder and it took 12 months of a trained therapist (while on medication for 2.5 years), weekly meditation sessions, and countless phone calls to friends and family before I learned how to cope. If you want to be a listening ear for someone who needs to talk than do it by all means, but don't use us as your test subjects. Don't univerisity's have special programs where you can get the practice you're looking for?

Sorry to hear about your tough times. I also suffered from GAD for 5 years so I have some idea what it was like for you.
I'm not "testing" on my "subjects." I'm talking with individuals who have mental//emotional disorders and communicating with them what I've learned about them and some methods that might help them.
As is evident in my first post, I make it very clear that I am not a licensed psychologist, that I am not someone to turn to in an emergency situation and that any knowledge I communicate with them should not be blindly accepted but critically understood. I don't act as if I possess the skills of a good licensed psychologist. Instead, I act as if 1) I have firsthand experience with mental//emotional disorders and 2) I have accumulated a body of knowledge about causes and solutions to mental//emotional disorders.
I encourage everyone I talk to to see a LP. But if I can offer them some useful knowledge then I will.

As long as IOvOI is offering advice simply as an informed 3rd party rather than a substitute for professional help (see Girl Problem blogs, addiction blogs, etc), I don't see what's unethical about the offer.

i would if i didnt get the sense that youre using people for your studies and if youre planning on writing a case study or publishing any sort of material about the people you talk to im not interested i have a very abnormal psychology and emotional issues that most people would consider to be very extreme and i am willing to talk to you about some of my general issues but i probably wont go into specifics
