Hey guys!

Does anyone know if there are anywhere in Tokyo where you can play SC2 on the NA server in Tokyo? I'm participating in the geforce pro am and would like to play my matches if possible, but I'm in Japan then ^^

Cheers

Why not just bring a Laptop with you?
Starcraft 2 is funny, everybody picks the race, which he considers to be the weakest. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I've been asking a japanese guy about Internet cafes in Kyoto because I'm going to go there soon. He told me that usually SC2 isn't installed, but you can bring your own CD and install it.
I don't know if it's the same for Tokyo, but it's very likely.

I don't.

I don't have an answer for you OP, but you could try asking this account on twitter: twitter.com/CyACgaming. They run tourneys in japan, so they might be able to help. there hasn't been any activity on the sc2 side for some time, but it's worth a shot

I was gonna say you would need some form of Asian SC2 account to play there, but if you wanna play on the NA server (and assuming you have an NA account), then you can download it from their website.

Japanese stores sell NA copies of SC2, so that wont be a problem.

That said, there arent many internet cafes in Tokyo (of the gaming variety), PC gaming like that just isnt very popular in the face of their arcade infrastructure and reliance on portable consoles

I would check out the Shin-Okubo area in Shinjuku that is like the Korean area of Tokyo where there's a lot of Korean restaurants, etc. There were two pc rooms i would go to when I was there for a summer that had several people playing Starcraft--actually every computer there had Starcraft AND a maphack installed (made me lol)..this was a couple years ago.

I completely forgot about Shin-Okubo 80kV, thanks! There should be something there. I'll be based in Shinjuku as well so it's probably faith

According to this http://starcraft2.jpcommunity.com/sc2/modules/xhnewbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=2079 you most likely need a korean account to play in Shin-Ookubo. So unless you have one of those I dont know.

Some people say that its available at WIP internet cafe located in Yoyogi. Cant find in the list of games on their homepage though. http://www.wip-fe.com/yoyogi/game/index.html

Supposedly theyve run several SC2 tournaments at the cafe earlier so it would be strange if they didnt have SC2. Ive mailed them and asked if they have it or not. Ill post here with an update once they answer me.

I know the perfect internet cafe for you. I don't know the exact name, but it's a legit korean pc bang. Just take the Yamanote line to Shin Okubo, get off, walk west a little bit, and it's located on the top of a 5 or 6 story building in between Shin Okubo station and Okubo station. Okubo is the korean district adjacent to Shinagawa so all the players in the cybercafe are hardcore korean gamers. Normal japanese cybercafes are mainly for reading manga or fapping.

EDIT: As Robinsa said, you may need a Korean account or install the American version But if you are looking for a hardcore PC game place, shin okubo is your best bet.

Ive never been there so I cant say wether a Korean account is needed or not. Im sure that you mean Shinjuku and not Shinagawa.

Are you in Japan at the moment ?

OP: What tournament are you going to play ? Will there be any possibility to go and watch ? I will go for sure if I can find time.

Oops, you are correct, i meant Shinjuku. I lived in Okubo last year for a study abroad. I just remember an epic cybercafe filled with smoke, tons of koreans raiding or playing some serious games. :D

not like you need a gaming laptop to play sc2.

My laptop is 4 years old, runs linux and still plays sc2 with no trouble.

IIRC, Japan plays on NA, so it wouldn't be an issue....if the OP wasn't from Norway lol.

And to the OP, I know this isn't really much help, but I can't imagine you'd have too much of a problem just looking around Tokyo or asking people there, they'd probably know wayyy better than most people on TL.

Well I can only say that your wrong here. Most poeple he would ask in the street wouldnt even know what SC2 is. Most people working at intenet cafes in Tokyo proboably wouldnt know. Why do you think the poeple that are interested in SC2, live in Tokyo and visit TL wouldnt know if there is one ? I would say the opposite to what you do. If he doesnt find a cafe here there is none.

I already own both an EU and a NA account so that is not a problem. I have found out that due to the time difference I'd be playing at 4 am so I'm pretty much not able to play. I'm in the group stages of the geforce pro am, but due to this it won't last long ^^

Thanks for great help guys! I'll have a look around Shin-Okubo and will report back if I find anything suitable.

So I the cafe in Yoyogi (WIP - ワイプ代々木北口駅前店) responded to me and they said it would be possible for you to install SC2 on their computers yourself and play from there if you wish to do so. Are you in Japan for a longer stay freonor?

You can install SC2 to a USB Flash Drive and just take that with you to Japan. Then as long as you find a cafe that will allow you to plug your flash drive in you'll be fine. You'll have to download all of the patches at the computer though, which could take a long time but probably won't cause Japanese internet is insanely fast.

I bought a 16gb flash drive for only $30 USD at a local store and I'm sure you can get one cheaper online.

So there's a guy who posted the exact same question on a Japanese forum, though for all I know it was you

http://starcraft2.jpcommunity.com/sc2/modules/xhnewbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=2079

The 3rd response might have the link you're looking for. The consensus is that most internet cafe's do not have it installed standard. The guy checked and said he couldn't find an open system with it installed, but others said it should be there. Then again, it's also the Korean version.

A lot of people also echoed the sentiment that you should be able to install it yourself and play that way.

My sincerest apologies. While I actually DID read the thread (despite your assumption), I happened to miss, perhaps, a line or two, and thus repeated information, and apparently offended you or something, since you replied to me with a meaningless one-liner. Though... it seems I actually DID add information. At that, I pointed towards a specific post, with a relevant answer, explained its contents, and hoped that it might be useful, as I was not aware of the OP's language level.

That thread actually is pretty much the same question, with locations and information, so I hope it helps at least some. That's also the website that is hosting the upcoming twitch tv sponsored tournament, so if you're in Japan long enough it's probably worth checking out.
