I don't want to be in a group with a funny name and I don't want to go to your stylish party. Neither do I. But I do want to forget my friends' birthdays because I did not remember to write them down. I do want to be able to reach a friend who lives in another coutnry and I want to be able to communicate with them even if they have changed their phone number in the past few years. You don't have to be on facebook 24/7... or more than once a week for that matter. But facebook can be quite useful sometimes. I've got back in touch with several old friends due to facebook.

I guess the bad part would be that the evil Facebook organization would have your vital information like your... email address.

They just partnered with Skype, so you can video chat with your Facebook friends without downloading a program (you just need a plug-in). Not sure when this will be released, but good ol' evil ruler Zuckerberg announced it yesterday.

I can not understand why every month a new update adds in features that expose me on a global level and do not ask my permission to do so. 2) Societal norms - It really is one of those things that if you don't have it, you're not "cool." or there's something wrong with you. Some people just don't have internet access, some people don't have time, some people don't want family members seeing what friends have to say and don't want to monitor the wall for posts 3) I know several people who won't even use the phone now. They post on FB, message you on skype or organize an event. I can agree with that being awkward. The point is, he's got every right to not want to be on the bandwagon. Especially with news coming in routinely about how governments around the globe are taking interest. Or even jobs, now that searching you up and refusing you based on a FB is acceptable It IS a nice tool, but it's also ok to not have one. The thing is, like smartphones, it's quickly becoming something you *need* to have to make it in today's world. Now...talking about it and making a post about how much you dislike it on an internet forum board.. that's weird. If you don't like it so much, just don't talk about it. Problem solved. Yep. These are pretty much my reasons as well. I have no interest whatsoever putting my personal information online like that. Employers are even beginning to ask that you add them on facebook so they can message you and check what you've been up to over the weekend. Though I'd add that i've never particularly liked the idea of being constantly contactable, but my friends expect it of me and I make the effort to always carry my phone with me. Basically it feels like i'd be giving up a ton for some questionable amount of convenience. Could somebody please explain what I actually stand to gain in real terms?

I use facebook because my friends share interesting articles and sites, offer help with homework, advice for games and actually like having photos around to share memories. Sure, some people would rather go live in a receptionless pit. Just text me it's location so I can toss you a year's supply of Pabst and bad underground polka music. Facebook communication has recently provided me with a beta invite and audiosurf! Communication is good! However, google+ is best!

But we call each other quite frequently and that actually means a lot to me, FB would destroy that. Videochat is not an option, due to timezones we sometimes phone at times where it's not really feasible to do so :p I don't hate FB, why would I, but most of my friends that used it and would be a reason to use it already quit FB and use oldschool methods of communicating like skype, qip or phone.

If you are truly my friend, we will find other ways to communicate such as texting, calling, skyping, gchatting. Disliking FB has nothing to do with a hipster trend (in my case), and everything to do with their blatant disregard with of privacy, the number of obnoxious people on there I would just like to never see or speak to again, and an interface that makes it difficult to do anything your way.

The actual service is so terrible I wouldn't use it anyway. (Yes I did use it for one year before becoming completely disgusted with it and deleting it.) Can you please describe this "sheer amount of personal information" facebook is demanding? You know someone is being bias and stubborn when they can't even justify their complaints with facts.

Other than that, I like being able to share cool/funny/interesting stuff that I find on the internet. If you're concerned about privacy, don't tell Facebook anything that you don't want them to share. If you're concerned about random people friending you, then don't accept their friend requests. If you hate apps and quizzes and shit, don't take them. It's not rocket science. But I haven't really heard anyone who doesn't use Facebook give any real reason for it that doesn't rely on some silly exaggerated notion of how you're expected to keep people up-to-date on every second of your life.

For facebook, i keep it to the bare minimum. Just to keep in touch with friend who I have difficulty meeting (too far etc). And that is it. I never join any groups or feel obliged to respond to random crap. For phones, I really hate them and I am notorious with my friends and family for not answering. When I leave the house I have it on me maybe 1 out of 4 times. Sometimes, I just dont want to answer the phone for anyone. And whoever calls me, I might not actually want to talk to them at the moment. But when I do speak to them, they are like "hey i was calling you, how come you didnt answer?". Anyway, Ive been doing this for like 10 years xD so whoever knows me, knows what to expect

Yeah definitely. I see things like this in a simple way.. It's just a way to talk to your friends online and nothing more. People make it out to be the worst thing in the world and I have no idea why they're so upset.
