What really irritates me is that whenever I walk out of the school library after playing starcraft, at least 90% of the school computers have a fb screen on them. There's much better stuff to do on the internet people D:
Better things like having TL open on a tab at all times :D
if i want to like something ill do it with my head.. poke something, ill do it with my finger... or hear what every single person is doing, having for breakfast, where they are going, what they did this weekend, what color their new car is, how they are distraught, how they "can't believe how some ppl are", how they are just chilling, how bored they are, or what they're doing after class.. well.. my point is i just dont give any flying shits or fucks (also, i have a facebook)
edit: plz dont take anything from my post except humor - im just talking shit (aren't blogs = shit talking?)

This guy has it pretty much spot on.

No Facebook but blogging on Teamliquid to communicate... logical indeed.
I've got a FB. It's a good way to keep in contact with people and have more group-based discussions when that isn't possible otherwise, or when it would require too much of a commitment (I'm not going to invite people over to talk about the Eagles game, for example).

I don't think Facebook works like you think it works. And really, you don't have time to be "running around" charging your phone every other day? But you have time to play shitty flash games on your PC or sit down and watch a movie. Wow.

I will answer these emails, but right now I'd rather spend time working out or watching a movie.
Are you having drug problems, because I have been trying to call you all night yesterday and your phone was off. FFS have you ever heard of the shitty batteries that are in our mobile phones? I don't run around charging it every fucking second day. There is no point in it. There is also no point in having games on my phone. I have a PC, I can play shitty flash games on it too, you know? Give me a phone that has a better battery than graphics, please. That will make me really happy.
Lets be friends. In real life. Not on facebook.
I don't care about the facebook thing, but the phone thing bothers me. Why wouldn't you keep your phone on you at all times? If you are watching a movie, you can silence it.
"I will not answer right now." Fine. You have better things to do than answer right away, but the tone of your blog does seem a bit childish. Sometimes people call because they have problems they want to talk about, not just to hang out? Or maybe your friends don't come to you with those kinds of problems?
I just can't grasp this. I charge my phone every other day, and if it's a bad phone, then everyday. It takes all of 5 seconds to put it on the charger while I sleep, and then 3 seconds to take it off the charger when I wake up. I don't know what kind of "running around" you have to do, but it is really not that much of an inconvenience.
See I have a friend that never picks up his phone, and it is tough hanging out with him in real life. He lives an hour away form me and the rest of our friends, and more often than not we do not hang out with him because he doesn't pick up his phone. He doesn't use facebook either, which I think is fine if he picked up his phone. But he doesn't.
So the whole "let's be friends in real life" thing doesn't make sense to me when you aren't reachable. I don't have time to drive to your house to find out if you are busy or free. I do have 1 minute to send you a text or make a phone call though.
As a guy who likes his alone time (and never seems to get it), I hate the notion that we need to be connected 24/7. I hate that it's expected of us. I hate that if I miss a phone call or don't immediately reply to a text message, people get pissy - so I understand where you're coming from, to a point, though some guidelines have to be made for common courtesy.
Still, I went for a bike ride into the bush the other day and got to the point where I had zero signal on my cell phone. It was a wonderful feeling.
Personally I hate facebook. I only have one with a fake name and everything just so I can get into some contests. Personally I'd rather not share whats happening to me with people I don't know, and for people I do know I'd rather just tell them over the phone or in person.

Facebook is just a site that allows you to interact with people in various ways. It's not about people knowing what you're doing (if you don't want it to be).

Bush??? I thought it's tundra outside of your igloo???
I too have grown to hate facebook. I have getting requests from people have no desire to talk to. I really only use it to write dumb, inappropriate comments on friend's walls.

This.
I don't hate facebook. I just don't want to be part of it. Also I don't get why some people won't understand that there is no big deal in not having facebook, or not always answering my phone. Call me a hipster if you want to.

you are right. This is a reason why I charge my phone actually most of the time and look at my emails pretty often. I do care about my friends. That is the reason why I have a cellphone. I wouldn't need one if it weren't for urgent stuff.
I get your point. Sometimes it is better not to know or let people know. With facebook you are in contact with people you actually don't really have any connection with but you know for historical reasons.
Another thing, mobile phones (SMS messages) DO ruin real life communication for many people. It's like the internet where people say shitty stuff they would never have said IRL. I mean, some people even break up with an sms. How sick is that? Sms is good for many other obvious reasons though. Same with facebook, has its problems but okay if you use it properly.
I use facebook because it's easier to spread some news that I want people to know.
I have a smurf account, just to abuse their services without giving back any real information.
In reality it's just to stay in touch with a couple of people who won't use Skype or IRC.
I'm not really opposed to social networks by principle, but I do think anonymity is a big and important part of the internet culture, and in that sense I'm not too fond of the recent trends of giving out personal information any more than is absolutely necessary.
I also try to encourage other people to do the same.

This.
Tech is all fine and dandy but I wish the OP addressed my concens. I have one and it's been detrimental in a variety of ways.
1) Privacy. I can not understand why every month a new update adds in features that expose me on a global level and do not ask my permission to do so. 2) Societal norms - It really is one of those things that if you don't have it, you're not "cool." or there's something wrong with you. Some people just don't have internet access, some people don't have time, some people don't want family members seeing what friends have to say and don't want to monitor the wall for posts 3) I know several people who won't even use the phone now. They post on FB, message you on skype or organize an event. I can agree with that being awkward.
The point is, he's got every right to not want to be on the bandwagon. Especially with news coming in routinely about how governments around the globe are taking interest. Or even jobs, now that searching you up and refusing you based on a FB is acceptable
It IS a nice tool, but it's also ok to not have one. The thing is, like smartphones, it's quickly becoming something you *need* to have to make it in today's world.
Now...talking about it and making a post about how much you dislike it on an internet forum board.. that's weird. If you don't like it so much, just don't talk about it. Problem solved.
