If you ever intend to play Brood War, XP. Otherwise, 7.

go for 7. it's a very stable system, much faster than its predecessor, and all in all not really anything to complain about. a lot of the wireless functions are faster to work with than XP imo (did not like XP on my laptop >_>)

Honestly, I'd say Windows 7. It it more optimized compared to XP, along with having all the newer features. XP is good for nostalgia, but Win7 has a lot more customization and imo better features. If you want nostalgia of back in 2004 when there was nothing better than Need for Speed Most Wanted, then get XP. Otherwise, get Win7.

There still isn't much that is better than Need for Speed Most Wanted... But i agree that Win 7 better than XP.

Unless you want to play BW or something then you should definitely go with Windows 7. I've used it with Boot Camp on my Mac for quite awhile (between 2 and 3 years) now and it's great with it.
Honestly, I'm not sure why this is really much of a question. Unless you have a need to play something like BW you should always go with the newest (especially since Windows 7 is actually good and way better than Vista).

I play BW on Win7 without fucked up colors and crashing.

Considering that you didn't say that you did, I'm assuming that there's nothing so you should go for Windows 7, no questions asked.

you don't need to use windows to use a different keyboard or mouse, unless the one you're getting is way off the beaten path. osx comes with most of the common drivers for keyboards and mice pre-installed.

I play it in XP and had no problems. Don't give 40GB, that's probably too much, you might regret it. 30GB is enough.

You can run a virtual windows xp machine on windows 7. It actually has that feature built in. (Maybe only the ultimate version?)

This is very, very incorrect. Well, let me rephrase: if you take "common" literally then, yes, Kon-Tiki is right. The problem is that when it comes to gaming mice you'll find yourself in deep water for the most part. Razer has drivers for most of their mice, but, for example, Steelseries has almost no Mac drivers at all. As someone who is currently typing this in Windows 7 running on a MacBook Pro right now, I can tell you that it's a pretty huge difference when it comes to driver support.

I actually think you can download it from Microsoft's site somewhere. I distinctly remember a post mentioning it on Lifehacker, so you can go there if you want to check it out (I'd search for you, but I really have to head to bed).

BW works perfectly fine on W7, you can fix the color problems with a .bat file. Just kill the tab overlay when you launch BW and the colors will look normal.

You might want to consider going to 60 if you want to at least play a few games (SC2 is around 12 or 16 GB, I believe).
Let's just say I'm really, really happy that I just built my new desktop this weekend and have seemingly endless HD space.
