FMP in SC1 vs FMP in SC2

Hey guys. I've been taking a break from SC2 laddering and started to play some fastest map possible under custom games. I'll admit FMP was the only thing I was really good at in SC1 and I liked it because there was at least some bit of strategy to it. Not a whole lot, but enough to be competitive. However, in the SC2 version of FMP, it takes ABSOLUTELY no skill!! Why is the FMP in SC1 balanced and the FMP in SC2 so UNBALANCED. People just mass void rays and literally a1 across an entire base and lose maybe 20-30 void rays.. It's almost nearly impossible to stop.. I haven't come across anything other than mass void rays that can stop it.. FMP in SC1 used to be such a fun map to play and I hate seeing it be so unbalanced in SC2.. Are there any other FMP players out there that have been disappointed by the FMP map in SC2??

I don't think FMP was balanced in BW. I remember Protoss used to be imbalanced and Zerg struggled the most. Late game it got pretty even though I think. Just early~mid Protoss dominated economy and unit production.

Void rays were a pretty shit unit. But I generally feel a lot of things lack in SC2, it's still a good game but is more limited in scope.

FMP was fun in BW though, it's a shame really. I just got BW to work but most of the time east/iccup are dead as shit. Combine that with my hosting issues I am having and it takes way too long to find a game. I am sure I could find a 1on1 on ICCup if I wanted to, but I am looking to play BS games on east. Either UMS, or BGH.

FMP 3v3 is the funniest thing sometimes. oh those crazy kids on US West, making 8 robos and doing mass reaver drops......................

Fmp, the only time its viable to make 1000000000000 cannons, 20 robos, and continually do mass reaver drops until the other teams get fed up and leave. lol.
i agree tho, the money in sc2 feels a bit toooo fast, and it doesn't feel dynamic enough. its hard to put my finger on, but its just not the same experience

Try getting ravens really early and spamming hunter/seeker missile. It works very well against mass air that tends to bunch up.

Honestly, the races were balanced. Each race had to use a certain build order, like zerg needed static defence with lots of hatches, etc. It's not the same though in Starcraft 2. The mineral intake is so fast it destroys the game play. I wish there was a skilled map maker that could replicate sc1 fmp to sc2. people have been playing the same fmp map in sc2 since the release and the version is just terribad.. Anyway, I guess I'll have to open up sc1 if I want some competitive fmp..

That was all my friends would ever play D: (except for 1 of them, but both of us still played it when our other friends wanted to). Actually, even though it wasn't super fun, I grew to like it a bit when I wanted to have a silly game w/ friends
I would have to say that it was definitely better in BW than in SC2, because you had the opportunity to help your allies when they were in trouble, instead of insta-dying, which happens because SC2 FMP is too fast ugh.
What I did in SC2 FMP was just mass ling into roach and kill before air even becomes an option. You can easily kill at least 1 and usually 2 with that. It takes the excitement out of the game...

East is far from dead. Check the )v( channel for BGH games and I think As channel for FMP games.

I've only played 2 games of FMP in SC2 and one of them was against mass VRs. I stopped it with fungals from 4 infestors + mass mutas. That was before 1.3 too, so I would imagine infestors are your answer.

i wonder how ghosts would fair against mass VR. EMP and they do bonus damage vs light. If they forget obs you can cloak as well.

The main problem I have with SC2 money maps is the sheer amount of lag that happens on them.

It doesn't matter if someone masses VRs or marines or even workers. At some point in the match, the entire game becomes nigh unplayable due to the massive framerate drop from all the stuff happening on the map.

Fastest in BW was a bit more comfortable due to the fact that all modern computers can handle Brood War with no performance problems. However, since SC2 is a more modern game, performance is not guaranteed even on minimal settings. Perhaps in 10 years all computers will be equipped to play FMP on at least medium graphics with little slowdown.
