As I was stoked for the conclusion of League of Legends S1 and what it brings to the game I posted regarding the event and was met with a mix of feelings by comment responses. This brought me to a point where I'd like so just get an idea on how people are feeling about LoL vs HoN vs SC vs DotA vs DotA 2, and the whole deal.
People have said they think the release of DotA 2 will make a very large dent in the community for LoL and other Mobas, and even Rts. Lets put it to a poll:

I put it in there because I know a lot of people who are torn between wanting to take a moba seriously but still feel it just isn't as good as SC for one reason or another.
As far as which game is overall better, it doesn't fit in. I mean you can't really compare the genres, but in terms of which games people would like to start, or keep devoting time to, those are the grounds I intended it to be on lol

sc2 has nothing to do with the other 3.
so outside of sc2 HoN was what i by far enjoyed the most. i playd dota (casually but still enough to sometimes be the ringer..) since the first 6.xx versions. immediatly jumped on HoN when beta started and loved it. a better faster dota.
lol i never liked in any way. something about the game just turns me off.

if i'm not mistaken hon (until they couldn't copy dota anymore) was basically, gameplaywise, an exact copy of dota, plus the new heroes they added in. the major changes were in everything around the game

i voted for LoL, i love starcraft, but i dont nearly have the dedication or time required to play it at any serious level. As far as lasting entertainment however, I love watching starcraft more than any other game. Its probably just me, but I dont find watching moba's entertaining at all, and its infinitely harder to explain to people how a moba works compared to how sc2 works. It seems like anyone can pick up a sc2 game and atleast understand enough to enjoy it in my experience.
I played hon during the beta but I wouldn't pay for the same game i can play for free. And i feel like they tried to keep alot of dated mechanics that ultimately just limits their playerbase whereas LoL is going places.
I think its funny that S2 is basically trying to make their game more and more like LoL as time goes on too XD
So, Watching SC2> Playing LoL > Trying DotA2 after reviews maybe> meh HoN

I recently stop SC2 to play LoL. Really fun game, but SC2 still my main and yeah SC2 doesnt really fit well into the category of 3 other games.
LoL has a pretty similar match making system and ranking as SC2.
Not sure what Valve will bring us with Dota2 though, not gonna leave SC for any other game anyway.

i think what'll happen is that all the other moba scenes will die out once dota2 comes around. and pretty much it'll be sc2 and dota 2 as the big esports

I'm not too active SC2 player, since I'm expecting it to take a proper form after the expansions come out and few patches to smooth it out. Like to follow it though, but current games haven't (mostly) been as exciting as BW was and still is.
Didn't really enjoy LoL, it felt like watered down DotA... though AP was pretty nice idea. Used to play decent amount of DotA, transferred to HoN due reconnect and less leavers (because I didn't have active team in any league or anything) and it has one of the best ratios with cost/time spent of all the games I've played.
Currently playing it once in a while, started to play Bloodline Champions more actively and waiting for DotA 2 to show up and check out the supposed improvements and system they have prepared for it.
Which reminds me, HoN devs still haven't put out the supposed map editor... hopefully someone manages to port pudge wars if it ever gets out (though hook animation might require tweaking for that).

Not too sure atm. I'm starting to play SC2 again to see if it is still fun for me. (I love watching it always though) If I like it, SC2. If I don't, I'll go back to HoN and eventually DotA2

There is limited reconnect now a days in several DotA leagues. 120 seconds you can directly reconnect (players can drop you as soon as you start lagging). Then there is the save and hope everybody can rejoin option as well. ^^ (First option being mostly the same as sc2, the second option not in it.)

it's too early to say dota2 will replace dota. i'm very surprised the poll favors it so heavily, for a game that we know next to nothing about.
LoL was developed with a very similiar background, but in all honesty the game has maybe 1mil players to dota's 10+.

SC2 = DotA 2 (assuming it lives up to its name) = DotA > BW > Barbie's Fashion Show > HoN > rubbing shards of glass into my eyes > LoL.
SC2 is a pretty great game, but the competitive scene is what makes it truly amazing. Watching the GSL is my favouritest thing ever, and that makes me enjoy playing it even more. DotA is an equally good game, but it's more of a casual thing. I play it when I don't feel like getting all stressed over Starcraft. DotA clones are just poor imitations that will never live up to the original.

It features quick and action packed skirmishes as opposed to 1 hour long farm fests which all DOTA clones are.

depends who you're playing with and if you're playing by yuorself. IMO Dota> Dota2 > BW > SC2> HON > LoL
dota > dota2 since dota will always be the classic and the 'feel' from dota wont be complete transferred to dota2 imo
even though i dont play LoL or HoN lol goes last since its too poor for a standalone game and they have servers that blow crashes during peak time; who wants to play a game like that

Dota2 if it's good, LoL if it's not. I really don't see why sc2 has so much hype. It's incredibly boring to play, even worse to watch. I bet that the sc2 scene won't go more than a couple years.

I really don't understand why LoL has yet to implement key features that would definitely help it grow competitively: as of now, it's hard to take it seriously as a potential eSport despite it's enormous player base simply because of a couple things.
For one, it lacks any replay system at all: there's no way to study an enemy's strategy in a game you got steamrolled, there's no way to go over what you did wrong, etc., etc. It's not like SC where timing of builds is paramount, to the extent that leaking replays would be incredibly beneficial/detrimental. Another thing is the lack of observer capability: as far as I know, you have to use a workaround of having it become 6v6 to actually have any obs in the game at all. Neither of these things are conducive to an eSport environment. Sure, it'll survive casually, but in terms of any sort of professional competition? I have my doubts.

What people most likely mean is that LoL is a simplified version of Dota/HoN(the last two are more alike), as SC2 is a simplified version of BW.

and i feel that once dota2 is out, hon and lol will be dead as hon and lol is just a way to pass time while waiting for dota 2. Almost everyone i know who plays moba feels this way too.
Of course it depends in how late valve release dota2. if it is in this year or early next year, then i feel it will unite the genre and i think it will be as big as sc2.
In fact, dota is huge in china/southeast asia/russia. The penetration rate is incredible meaning that schools actually has dota club and any gamers would have known or tried dota before. It is not a niche genre like RTS is in the west. In fact, it is the most popular genre , after that comes fps games like CS

i like sc2 better than the rest...dota like games lol it seems kinda boring...oh sc2 has a free version too called the "Storm of the Imperial Sanctum"...
i guess sc2 is like build your base, while LoL and Dota games are build your character...but it would be boring in Dota to watch 1v1s... when sc2 has a larger team competition setting (with real pro teams), it could be more fun to watch than Dota and LoL games.

Well Dota takes a lot more skill than HoN, Dota 2 reamins to be seen, but the interface and unit fluidity makes HoN a bit simpler, but obviously Dota is a dying game.
Then again I don't get why this was bumped, jsut another flame war that starts up in stream chats all the time, but SC2 shouldn't even be in this conversation it is completely irrelevant.

What ALMOST the majority of people on TeamLiquid prefer those kind of games over StarCraft 2? It makes me sad knowing more than 1/3 of the browsers I communicate with are not even taking StarCraft 2 seriously.

I still like SC2 and LoL. I will not be switching when DOTA2 comes out.
I've already memorised all the units in SC2 and all the Chars in LoL, i don't need 50 more friggin characters to remember.

I still don't think there's any appropriate reason to include SC2 in that (unless we're talking about SOTIS mod lol). I voted SC2, but in terms of the actual genre related games, I'd probably check out DOTA2.

I'll always love Starcraft but LoL has had the majority of my interest for a while now. I don't know if it's something wrong about SC or something good about LoL, but yeah I voted LoL for the moment at least. Definitely going to try DOTA2 though.
Also agree that comparing SC2 to MoBA games might not be fair.

hon - good moba, but still niche and will always be niche because of dota and its follow-ups
dota - old and not as ageless as bw for example, people are gonna move to dota2 if it's well done
dota2 - we haven't seen it yet, but being the genre it is, you can't compare to sc2. also being the genre it is it will never reach the complexity of sc so will never be at the same level. will probably be an awesome game though, looking forward to it, somewhat.
sc2 - you're on teamliquid brah, i need not link a million threads proving the superiority of rts to most other genres for the passionate gamer.

My thoughts:
Dota was made by many different people. "Ice frog" is just the guy who takes most of the control now. Dota 2 is not the official sequel to Dota and personally, I am annoyed that by taking the name Dota 2 Valve and icefrog are taking the credit for dota in the minds of less knowing players (which there will be a lot of).
And it also annoys me how a lot of people suck Dota 2's dick even though they know nothing about the gameplay, how it will differ from Dota or if it will be another Hon with a more attractive name. Sure its made by Valve, but how will that add much value (besides being horribly delayed)? I mean its dota so the plot ain't gonna matter much, gameplay is pretty much dota with maybe a few minor changes, and seeing as how they took the name dota 2 I expect many ported heroes. Graphics wise, maybe a little better than Hon but that doesn't mean a lot (at least to me).
Also, Lol feels so shady sometimes with their ways of trying to get money out of players but I respect how their player base on average are far more chill than Hon and tries to be a little more creative. But the graphics... jesus. What is this, year 2000?
Hon's general community is fcking impossible. If you have no friends to play with don't play Hon. Its not worth it sometimes on how mad it can get you and I sit back and think "how is this fun?"
It has its rare moments where you play a really good game win or lose and you enjoy it playing solo, but most of the time it can get stressful.

Are people still playing LoL? That has to be one of the worst games I have played in a long time. I would be surprised if the could fuck up DOTA 2 bad enough to make it worse that LoL but I guess LoL shows that the DOTA style isn't enough.
