I am so pumped! I just got the job as a camp counselor at gamecampUSA where I will spend all summer teaching kids basic programming and basic game design. Then spending the rest of the time running and competing in gaming tournaments on the Wii, Xbox360, and PC.
When I asked what games they played in these tournaments he said Halo Reach (awesome), SSB: Brawl (kickass!), Black Ops (meh..) and Starcraft II (HOLY F*** YES). I couldn't be more excited. I am going to get paid to play my favorite games (and the ones im the best at) all summer.
It's like ive been preparing for this job my entire college career. As a computer science major for the actual teaching and the countless hours spent competing with roommates in Brawl, the endless game sessions on Xbox Live in Team Deathmatch Halo 3 and Halo Reach, and obviously my obsession with Starcraft II.
I'm just really pumped right now so I thought I'd start up a blog. Anyone else have any experience with game camps, as a camper or as a job?

Wow. You're gonna have one cool summer. I'm not that familure with these kind of summercamps since we don't really have those in Europe. Is it still gonna be like at a lake (like in most movie) But then with rooms full computers ? Either way gratz on making it

Its actually run out of extended stay hotels where they set up labs with computers and what not. Some campers just come for the day and other stay overnight at the hotels for 1-2 weeks. Definitely not a traditional 'out by the lake hiking and swimming' style summer camp haha.

I think they actually accept most ages but I'm guessing 10 - 16.

yah but really this is like my dream job. I was all lined up to to work at another computer camp called CyberCamps last year actually but they went out of business.

I guess when I think of a waiter it is like if they serve you and bring the food to a table for you and then they get a tip. Fast food employees are less involved. Not a huge differentiation really but it would be funny if you had like a fancy sit down restaurant version of McDonalds.

Nice! I did the exact same thing when I was in high-school. Although the games were like sim city 2000 and Brood War

Nothing would make me happier! I'll probably see some pretty good players but I really doubt there will be any kids above mid-diamond at this camp. We'll see.
