But I honestly think that this drop is a bit overrated, I think it's because of all the hype, considering he now only has one more album left to make before he's done. It was alright.Not the best. Overrated. I liked these songs though what'd you guys think of it?  | ||

Edit: Let me add how the hell did he let "Till I get there" end up on the album. Man that song depresses me. The production on the entire album is way too pop-ish for me. After listening to Kanye basically master the art of producing hip-hop, Lasers sounds amateurish by comparison. | ||

Lasers kills me. It's not bad by any means, but It's not on the same level as his other albums. I've been asking myself what is missing but it's tough to put a finger on it. Here are some quick thoughts as I give myself a study break: In the past Lupe was recognized as different from other rappers for a few reasons, one of which was his wit. On lasers he seems to have abandoned complex metaphor and instead tells us that hes clever. It just feels lazy. Lupe was also recognized as having a different message than other rappers. On Lasers he drops lines like "sipping on purple" and tells us he has a gangster past. The context of those lines is not promoting a gang lifestyle, but none the less I ask myself why the lines are even in there. thirdly, there are so many choruses. This wouldn't bother me if any of them were raps by Lupe, but they're either autotuned hooks or simple lines sung by featured artists on Atlantics label. The producers, rappers and singers from first and fifteenth are almost completely absent. On the whole I feel the album doesn't have the re-playability of his previous two. I don't want to say its bad, but after listening to it on repeat for the last few days I think I'm pretty much done with it. | ||

But when I think about what it took to actually get the record together and everything that I went through on this record — which is something I can’t separate — I hate this album." -Complex Magazine February Lasers was absolutely nothing compared to F&L or The Cool, and there is absolutely no denying of that. But I think we should take a step back here. The Cool was a commercial "failure" so in order for Lasers to be released, many concessions had to me made, the autotune, the crap features, Kesha-esque beats, etc. Honestly though, if you are willing to dig deeper past the crap you will find the Lupe you are searching for. What depresses me more than how bad the album ended up being is just how the fans reacted. Many of them just got up and left saying how Lupe fell off. Someone like Lupe honestly doesn't deserve that kind of reaction when people like Lil' B are gaining momentum. You can hate on this album as much as you want, but don't say this is the end. Who knows, maybe with F&L2 later this year (probably not, but we can hope) and maybe after his contract with Atlantic, he will be able to go back to making some better music. Or maybe he will just die out with this one. Who knows. Anywho he is making F&L 2 this year and he has all the freedoms he wants :D. Actually, F&L2 is going to be released with Atlantic, and you can probably expect the similar kind of involvement from the record label. They are out to make money after all. And I really doubt F&L2 is going to be released this year. Best case scenario he will pull some Eminem-esque rebound from Relapse to Recovery. As a side not, I Don't Wanna Care Right Now is probably the worst song Lupe made. Out of My Head sounds like one of those crap songs on the radio, and I always ask myself why the hell Trey Songz is on my Lupe CD. | ||

It's understandable for singers, but for a rapper? it's just ridiculous | ||

Yeah I was wondering about that. It feels like more a club joint, which is fine, but not really Lupe's style. I've started listening to Lupe ever since he was on "Touch the sky" with Kanye. Sadly, even though Kanye's first 3 albums were good, he ruined his entire image by releasing that auto-tune trash and then running out with his ego. I really hope Lupe doesn't follow the same path. | ||
