So Verizon has placed me in a really annoying situation and I'm trying to decide whether I had bad luck or if they have royally (and illegally) screwed me over.
As a few of you already know I leave tomorrow on a cruise out of the USA that stops at a few islands in the Caribbean.
On December 28th, 2010 I called Verizon to discuss the data plan options for my phone. The person I spoke to said I can update my domestic unlimited data plan to an international unlimited data plan for the days that I am out of the country. Since my data plan is normally 29.99 and the international plan is 64.99, I'd have to pay approximately 8 dollars to have unlimited data for the days of my week long cruise. This would give me unlimited data on the ship, and in all 3 ports of call.
The person I spoke to told me he had set it up and that I was taken care of. Today I called back to verify it is all set up (just to be safe) and the person I spoke to said there was some type of note in my account about the days I was traveling but that they don't offer any type of unlimited plan anymore. She quoted me at 30 dollars for 25 megabytes or some other equally overpriced plans when compared to what I was originally offered (this would also not cover me for the ship).
Eventually I spoke to a supervisor who said they are not obligated to honor me anything they quoted me at before and did not seem to have much remorse for the fact that they never notified me of this change. I was about to go rack up hundreds of dollars in ship's and foreign data fees without realizing that I wasn't getting unlimited data.
Is there really anything I can do? All I can say is thank God I called but this seems like very poor business practice.
Still.... not sure what my best bet is. 30 dollars isn't too bad plus I can deactivate my domestic plan for the days that I'm out of the country... but this still sucks compared to what I was originally offered.
