They open up Arbs and HTs and provide for some of the most hilarious PvT builds ahaha. I still feel bad whenever I dt drop -> arb rush, but the opponent comments is just too funny. | ||

You had to get an academy for scan which is a tech structure you only get for a bio army or scan. The standard for terran in BW is to go mech against toss. | ||

I think I made more people rage with 3 base off 1 gate DT -> 8 gates of terror + arbs it was awesome, except when they knew how to use dropships and vultures that is. | ||

And for you SC2 players, yes it's possible to take 3 bases with 1 gateway and Dts woops meant to be edit | ||

DTs wasn't a separate branch of units, the prequisites were the same as HTs and Arbiters so DTs were available out of convenience. | ||

They're a breeze to get in BW, and you don't even necessarily to do a lot of damage for them to have been worth it, and they transition to other valuable units more easily. Scanners can actually be killed relatively easily, the Terran is less likely to have scanners, etc. It's really not that bad in SC2- only time it might be an issue is in a FFA or something like that, but even then.. you really shouldn't be losing to DT rushes or you're not putting enough pressure on the Protoss. Let's make a list of all the reasons DTs are more difficult in BW! Easier for the Protoss in BW 1. They cost less gas- 125/100 vs 125/125. 2. They build faster- 50 seconds vs 55 seconds. 2. Citadel of Adun and Templar Archives only take 60 seconds each in BW, the Twilight Council is 50 seconds, but the Dark Shrine is 100 seconds. 3. The Templar Archives also unlock High Templar, and make for an easy transition into psi storm. 4. The Templar Archives is also a prerequisite for arbiters, which are almost essential in PvT. 5. The Terran has difficulties scouting what you're doing after you get your first dragoon out- unlike PvT in SC2, Terrans generally don't go for early pressure unless they're cheesing. 6. You can fake going for dragoon range pretty cheaply by getting a weapons +1 upgrade in BW (perhaps completely fooling the Terran)- pointless in SC2, because everyone gets warp gate anyways, and its cheap. Harder for Terran in BW 1. There's no orbital command, so your scanner only has 500 hp. 2. You get your scanner much later because it costs 150 minerals to build an academy, and it is completely useless for any standard TvP aside for getting scanners. 3. You don't have ghost EMP which can reveal cloaked units. 4. It's much harder to scout a Protoss in BW- you have to judge unit numbers at certain points, and if the Protoss does a good job of hiding his stuff, you probably have no idea what is going on. Getting a super fast academy can be done, but by the time you scan his tech, its probably too late, and whoops, you might not have any scan now. 5. Unlike in SC2, there's no such thing as an early ball of units that can deal with DTs well. Spider mines on vultures are great, but if you misplace your mines, the DTs can slip by, or they might blow up all your scvs when a DT drags it into them. And they don't even necessarily kill the DT. Losing siege tanks hurts like crazy too. If there is even a small hole in your defense, it might lead to a spiral into oblivion. There doesn't even need to be a hole, the Protoss can create one. And unlike in TvP in SC2, they might drop extra zealots or dragoons, since its not particularly easy to destroy his workers while you're just barely surviving. There's also weird builds like reaver/DT that might mess you up. 6. Mech is extremely gas heavy- you might only have one or two science vessels, especially if the Protoss limits your expansions. Unfortunately, this can lead to the science vessel dying and a DT dragging a mine into your entire army which subsequently blows up. On the positive side, turrets are cheaper in BW. But that's about the only positive for Terran. xD Also, I couldn't find the mine drag where practically an entire army blew up to spider mines hitting a DT, but this is a pretty good example of how much worse DTs are in BW. | ||
