Facebook. You all know what it is (if you don't, its time to come out from under that rock). A social networking site created by some harvard kid a few years ago. He planned it to be a site for college kids to use to connect with eachother. Since then, it has expanded to a HUGEamount of people of all ages, from pre-teens to seniors. That is all fine, because there should be no limits on who uses social networks. The thing that bugs me is that Facebook is no longer a social network. It is a site you can live on. Not only can you get status updates from friends/'pictures from friends/whatever, but you can also get your horiscope, recipies, buy/sell your friends, play gameshows and run a virtual farm/mob. This is blurring the line between a gaming site (like pogo or addictinggames) and a social networking site. I do not like this. I am tired of getting spammed with "help me level up in X facebook game" or "join y game so we both get bonus credits. THIS IS NOT THE POINT OF A SOCIAL NETWORK A social network should be somewhere where you can say something about what is happening to you/friends that your friends can see, and remember. Not somewhere to play games and waste hours of your life.
Now you may be saying "But this way I can share my scores with all my friends from this one game I played." Listen. NO ONE CARES if you got 1 million points in Crazy Taxi, or if you won a race in Speed Racing. All they want to do is get back to their games and focus on their high scores. THIS IS NOT THE POINT OF A SOCIAL NETWORK.
So I am proposing that anyone who agrees with this (assuming they have facebook) will delete all game/horiscope/whatever apps from their facebook account, only leaving the basics (notes, videos, pictures).
So whos with me?
Also, sorry for any spelling mistakes, its midnight and i am kinda tired.

Because of the reasons you mentioned above the only application I have is a Tetris game. I hate all that other shit too so if I get sent any of that crap from people on my list I just remove them off my list so I don't get spammed with more shit. ^^

Can I jump on this bandwagon and add in, Fans of XXX Company pages too? Just because I buy toilet paper doesn't mean I want to become a fan of the company on facebook.

you can block any application with about 3 clicks of the mouse...
|
I pretty much only use Facebook for messaging and keeping up with events at the moment..... It's already done by me.....
I don't like the privacy policy they use (especially since I've put my privacy settings nearly as high as they go, and I've seen how some people were able to see stuff they shouldn't). That is definitely another part of that.....

how about just avoid facebook games and invites entirely? according to my sidebar i have 32 pending game requests and 44 application requests but i just continue to screen them all...
|
i deleted facebook
if i really want to talk to someone il skype or phone them..
|
Floating at 99 game requests since I experimented with an auto-decline tool I experimented with a few months ago. I just hide application requests and control my feed/wall with the settings provided. :s No biggie here

My brother and mom are addicted to facebook games, and when I critisize them for playing those games on a SOCIAL NETWORK they critisize me for playing legit games like Starcraft and Minecraft.

Funny how facebook gaming has thrived when gaming networks have not.

People on Facebook were wasting their lives on Facebook long before there were any games on it. There are better reasons to dislike that site.
|
Comeon, just don't take it so seriously. Facebook can be whatever you want - it's very simple to block the inane games. It's like criticising google mail for all their extra optional features...no I never want to use buzz, but who cares if it's there for other people? The basic application still does a fine job, so what's the problem?
To use another analogy, it's like saying "Starcraft 2 shouldn't have a map making engine, as that's 'impure'. People should just ladder competitively instead of messing around on custom maps."
See why this is a little silly?

a great deal of information harvesting can be done with apps
|
i dunno i just ignore all the spam people send me from those applications and just let it pile up. if you're too OCD to let those little request notifiers sit around and you MUST deal with them when they spring up i guess it could be really annoying but thats really the main source of spam so i suggest just ignoring it.

I was annoyed with all that farmville, mafia stuff, but then I realized how fun it is and now I spam all my friends with updates No I don't.
I found the 'block application' to be a real godsend on fb. That and ignoring /eliminating spammers from my news feed. So for me it still is a social network. (That and grouping friends- the chat only has people that I talk to in real life rather than that random dude that you haven't seen for years that keeps ALWAYS tries chatting with you on fb.)
