I was intrigued to read Plexa's PvZ guide in which he repeatedly referred to a group of stalkers as a mob. Perhaps that's more common than I knew, but I thought that was the perfect collective noun to describe them; an unruly group running around town and wrecking stuff.
But that led me to another thought. What about the everything else? What do you call a group of roaches? Of zealots? I'm not sure, so I had to make it up. This isn't a complete list, [I don't have good collective nouns for a couple] nor is it authoritative,[some of my collective nouns probably suck] so feel free to contribute.

Can we limit ourselves to only words with 2 or less syllables? Epidemic, Severe case, imbalance, deliverance are too long for me
Armada is ok though :D

"An imbalance of marauders"
+1
"A hack of motherships" made me laugh As did "A severe case of nydus worms"
Doctor, is it serious? I'm afraid it is. Do I have cholera? No, he's been gone for some time now. Do I have another disease? Worse. You have... a severe case of nydus worms.

i still dont know if its colosi coloxin or colossus's or if colossus is the plural and singular form i don't think its ever been disputed that it is colossi, it comes from latin (which comes from greek, but for english intents, it comes from latin).

Haha awesome post! I particularly love the "misclick of archons" and the "hack of motherships". Be fun if some of these started getting used in casts.
|
Wow the Protoss ones were golden, a missclick of archons :D. How about a blanket of interceptors.

A cloud of void rays? A gob of roaches?

Oh man, I was going to do my college thesis on measure words in Chinese, which are very related to collective nouns in English. Yayyyyy!
Suggestions:
A fury of Ultralisks (rampage and stampede work well, too) An ascension of Void Rays A gang of Hellions (zealots seem too disciplined to be in a gang, while hellions are more thuggish) A horde of roaches A company of Ghosts A weyr of hydralisks A murder of reapers
A band of zealots OR A pride of zealots A hover of observers
I'm not sure about a "cell" of banelings. Banelings tend to roll all over the place, and "cell" makes them sound too static/regimented. How about a "crash" of banelings?
|
I second the "crash" of banelings, and was JUST ABOUT TO SUGGEST the "murder" of reapers, because crows are just too damned cool. Peanut beat me to both, though, and also taught me that "weyr" is a word.
Actually, I just really want to +1 peanut's post. So...much...win...

Yeah, but zealots come in gangs, where as hellions generally operate in small groups. Maybe they both come in gangs. There's no law against using the same collective noun twice. How about a "band" of zealots and a "gang of hellions? Because it is true, hellions are basically a motorcycle gang.
I like a "horde" of roaches, and I also like a "gob". Decisions decisions. + Show Spoiler [Poll] +Poll: A ____ of roaches?Horde (20) 59% Gob (14) 41% 34 total votes Your vote: A ____ of roaches? (Vote): Gob (Vote): Horde
A murder of reapers is good, it's funny because the raven actually is a unit in the game, but it definitely fits better with reapers.
A "cloud" of void rays is good too, I like that.
The "cell" of banelings occurred to me, because banelings operate like little green rolling terrorists, and obviously, terrorists come in cells. But I dunno. There's definitely something that fits better.

you should have a Bale of Hydralisks (Bale = group of turtles )
