In the interests of more interesting/enjoyable ladder play, do your part by taking the pledge!

I, the undersigned, will not, during ladder play:

1. 6/7 pool
2. Proxy gate/rax
3. Cannon Rush

Together we can make the ladder a less cheesy place. I'm not interested in the moral validity of cheese, I'm interested in fun matches.

that's my point- I don't want to talk about whether or not you go to hell for cheesing- a win's a win. The pledge is saying, it's more fun when people don't cheese. Do your part to make the ladder more fun.

I'm not going to remove strategies from my arsenal because you don't consider them fun.

how about a new pledge:
I, the undersigned, will learn to defend against these cheeses, rendering them generally ineffective, in an effort to discourage the use of them during ladder play.

I pledge to force people how to adapt instead of mindlessly playing their cookie cutter strats they took from Day9. And I plan to desensitize virgin ears when I accomplish this.

I have seen the light, thanks to your brilliant post! I shall now endeavor to make every game as fun filled as possible. When randoming zerg, I shall immediately kill two of my starting drones and 4 pool, but only as a means to overseer rush. When the dice gives me terran, I will build a rax as far away from my opponent as possible and only use it to tech to engineering bay. Then curse that they can't float in this game. And, lastly, when the Blizzard gods hand me Protoss, my plan is clear: cannon rush the on-map critters, then go mass hallucinated sentries.

The thing is - I'd like to work on my mid-late gameplay, and the guys who cheese all the time are generally terrible after their cheese fails..... It becomes pretty easy to beat after that.....

The problem is actually beating the well-practiced cheese.....

is cheese really that prevalent in lower leagues? i'm not terribly high in diamond but there's almost none of it here and when it does happen, it's just part of the game.

cannon rush isn't even cheese. It's a really good opening that you should do 90% of your games.

Back when I used to be copper (yeah, old school baby) I saw cheese at least 50% of the game.

Same all the way up to platinum (which was diamond at the time.)

Today, it is much the same. Until mid diamond cheese is extremely prevalent. Thank god I am high enough now that I rarely see it.

Edit: To be clear, I don't think there's any thing wrong with cheese, or even that cheese really exists at all. Admittedly, I do rage quit sometimes if I lose to it. :/

I feel like if I took any pledge, it would be the exact opposite of the one you've proposed.

Weird I faced cheese a lot in the very beginning in gold, then it was mostly straight up games until recently at ~1200-1300 diamond I've been getting cheesed like 90% of my games. Takes the fun out of it for me but who am I to decide what strategies other people should use? I just don't play as much.

Cheese games are fun for me, even when it's not me cheesing. Always cool to play out a situation where neither player has played the exact situation out before. 7pool? Well, I'll get a fast forge and a cannon, then maybe I'll go phoenixes... DAMN baneling bust, should be careful of that next time.

Plus the game's like 10 minutes long at the longest, so it's nice and quick, and yeah, very micro intensive.

I don't understand the obsession with the alleged "macro game." I love having 5 bases, but only when the game demands it. That's very unlikely on Steppes, though it might happen often on cross position metalopolis. Adapt your gameplay.

SC2 isn't no rush 20.

I don't cheese, but then again, I stopped laddering too. Cheese is fine when you play with friends who might know you a little, then it isnt pure luck of the draw, there is a little bit of mindgames to it.

game 1: i played straight up
game 2: i played straight, but much more agressive
game 3: straight up, different tech then other games
game 4: fast expand, like unsafely fast
game 5: straight up

... now if I cheesed in game 6, isnt that a little more interesting then just 'who the hell is this guy' and bam cannons in your base every other game?

Half the fun of laddering is beating a cheesy opponent who rage quits after the cheese fails.
Also, I'm pretty sure that stuff like this is defend-able once scouted. Its all a matter of how you adapt, or react.

Either that or in some kind of tournament/competitive setting. Totally agree.

While the easiest way to practice defeating cheese is to face it, if you face it too much, it takes away from your ability to practice your mid/late gameplay.....

I wish people would learn to deal with cheese rather than whine about it... don't go around doing risky econ openings if youre scared of cheese =.=

It doesnt look good on the cheeser's part, but it only makes you a fool to think that others should change their gameplay to your liking.
