First off, I'd like to say that I really thought about not posting this at all. I feel like this blog's subject matter will be extraordinarily controversial, depressing, and demoralizing.
But I'm going to post it anyway.
I am a 90s kid. I was born in '91 (represent). I played with stretch armstrong reissues, went to Scholastic book fairs at school, watched power rangers, the whole sha-bang. But along came a movie so great, so awesome, so rad, so Looney, that its wonders couldn't be fully understood by just one viewing.
I watched this movie every fucking day of my life for at least a year. I had just gotten over my Hocus Pocus addiction of about 2 years, and I was looking for something new.
Space Jam had it all. Quirky aliens, action packed drama, all of my favorite cartoon characters, and Michael goddamn Jordan, captain of the Chicago goddamn we'll rip your fucking face off because we're the fucking 90s Chicago Bulls Bulls.
What more could a kid ask for?
Well, the 2000s roll around, and kids have forgotten about the ballad of Space Jam (or have never even heard of it), and they're listening to all kinds of riff-raff that plays over the radio 24 hours a day.
Yes, I think you know where this is going. Unfortunately, to finish my tale, I have to take you there:
Kids nowadays are sick. They're ill. They're diseased. They need to be quarantined as soon as possible.
Alas! This Scop's sad story must come to an end. An end that we may not appreciate for how diabolical it really is. An end that we did not see coming, but our age has not the time for ignorance.
Watch the first couple seconds of each video after where I have them start.

The two songs are not the same. They're not even much alike. Justin Bieber didn't fucking copy Space Jam. I made this thread because it hit me that they have a similar beat at the beginning. Why else would I connect the two songs and put effort into making an OP? I don't go around trying to find songs that sound like the Space Jam theme all day. It's just something to make you laugh and feel nostalgic, don't get your panties all bunched up about it.
That song and that movie was awesome! I remembered when I first saw it, I really wanted to start playing basketball. Unfortunately there was no team around
Rofl. Two things: 1. That Space Jam song sucks. Baby is actually better. 2, Space Jam was good, but it's for little kids. The two best songs of the 90s came from 1 series that only men could enjoy. Don't bring that late 90s crap in here.
lol at OP. You are barely a 90s kid. Really, people that are actually born in the 90s arent considered 90s kids. Sure you were old enough to watch the Lion King ans Space Jam, but by the time you could divide or ride a bike the decade was basically over lol. You basically grew up in the 2000's. Just saying...cuz its a bit funny haha.
I was born in 83...but i dont remember 1 thing from the 80s lol. I remember everything about the 90s though cuz thats when i grew up and where my early teen years were spent haha. You talking about the Bulls of the 90s and how you remember them is is hilarious lol.
Space Jam is the greatest movie ever and anyone who said otherwise is wrong. Michael Jordan, Wayne Knight, and Bill Murray all in one movie? Epic.
The soundtrack really was amazing though. In my senior year of high school, the club I was in played Capture The Flag, and I would bring the Space Jam soundtrack and we'd all get pumped up by it haha. Good times, good times.

Exactly. Thats what i just said a few posts up lol. OP is hilarious. Same with everyone else in this thread born in like 92 thinking they are a 90s kid lol. You guys missed half the decade while you were in the womb, learning to poop , and then walk.

On the Beiber point, we did kinda have Aaron Carter =/.

Updated OP because I'm not sure if people understand what I'm trying to point out.
The point was that the bass lines in both songs are nearly identical. Once you've heard it, you'll never be able to listen to the Space Jam theme without hearing Justin Bieber ever again. TT

sorry man, you were like 15 by the time space jam rolled around, like 12 whenever powerrangers was the shit, youd be a creepy ass kid to be that old and still into that stuff. You ain't a 90's kids.
I was born 1990, I got the best cartoons, I got pokemon, I got snes and n64, I watched barney, power rangers.
I really feel bad for the kids nowadays, have you seen their cartoons? no dexters lab, ed edd eddy, doug, rugrats....sigh.

lol , he got to watch the simpsons when they first came out , when they were actually good do you remember when 'Do the bartman' was #1 back in 1991? nah didn't think so i remember playing DKC when it first came out back in 94 , you would have played it after the release of PS1 & N64 - it wouldn't have been the same for you.
If you were born in the early 90s you are mostly a 00's kid.

so it kinda confuses me when '91-92s go nostalgic over stuff that happened in 90s. You were like 1 when Terminator 2 came out. 2-3 when Pulp Fiction came out. You were 3-5 when stuff like Duke Nukem, Red Alert and SC came out. No way in hell could you appreciate all the inside jokes and etc in those games and movies. And so on.
You're 00s kids. Late 90s at most.
yeah why would I ever go nostalgic over barney, power rangers, pokemon, rugrats, scooters, all that, space jam, doom, diablo, they all happened in the 2000's!
man what I would give to be 8 playing duke nukem and starcraft again! those games were the shit back then. I can remember just watching my dad play warcraft: orcs and human for hours

Actually I was born in early '89, but I don't consider myself a "90s kid". Sure, I've seen it all and played it all, but it happened when I was so young I either didn't quite understand it or don't remember anything about it, so it kinda confuses me when '91-92s go nostalgic over stuff that happened in 90s. You were like 1 when Terminator 2 came out. 2-3 when Pulp Fiction came out. You were 3-5 when stuff like Duke Nukem, Red Alert and SC came out. Exactly again. This. Also Power Rangers came out in 93 and Space Jam in 96. OP was 2 and 4 years old when these came out and he was born in 91. He Barley got to appreciate these when they came out. People in this tread born in the 90s did not get to appreciate anything in the 90s for more than a few tiny years. You guys are 2000s kids. I was born in 1983 and find myself fitting in the middle of the 90s kids group. The guy I quoted has it right. 1980-1985 or so is a 90s kid. But hey whatever u wana call urself lol. How are u gona call urself a 90s kid when for half the decade ur still sucking ur thumb and playing with ur older sisters My Little Ponies?
on the music side are u guys forgetting we also had a shitton of rubbish music when we were growing up too? nsync? backstreet boys? aaron carter? there was good music then and now, thankfully i had an older brother who indulged me with good music back then so even radiohead, a tribe called quest etc feels somewhat nostalgic to me
for childrens movies and cartoons, 90s definately owned hard
89 .. and i consider myself a 90s kid .. the 00s was when i was into friends but the 90s was me playing from nes to PCs
played x-men ..
I played CC when i was 8 on a PS, dark reign at 9, dead lock 2,
shat myself because of the Butcher in D1 in PS ..
i got to play dune, doom, doom 2, METAL SLUG, SAMURAI SHOWDOWN, pissed off Commandos,
played power ranger
saw the movie power ranger
i remembered in 5th grade we talked about kenan and kel, all that, off beats, johnny quest, pokemons (the original 151), got the chance to play Magic:The Gathering
i think the reason why 90s were great because the 80s kids who were 6-10 years older than us also liked what the 90s had to offer .. yuyu hakusho .. especially that one
with regards to music .. never really into the international artist .. all around me were people either playing old rock like ACDC or into madonna or Bee Gees or Local Artists so .. idk
ah man haha fucking Space Jam I remember watching it like 20 times when I was a kid ('90lol, wtf is up with all the hate if you were a kid during the '90s then you're a '90s kid gtfo trolls)
still can't believe I learned my alphabet in English before I learned it in French (kthx Barney, kthx) and uhhhh
oh yeah, rockin the Sega Genesis with Mortal Kombat (blood included suck it SNES) and Sonic Mortal Kombat movies that were like a complete mindfuck when you'd see them but then you'd realize they were just really awful
and oh nobody mentioned this yet (I think) Beverly Hills Ninja? Chris Farley? so sad that guy passed away
I was born '89 and would consider myself a 90s kid too, I guess it has a lot to do with the fact that I'm the youngest of four so there was alot of influence from my older brothers. So I played Duke Nukem when I was 5 or 6 and Starcraft too, damn I played a game called "Vermeer" on ATARI TT (and some numbers I don't remember) and ZackMcCracken, Monkey Island 1&2(that was on our Mac PowerPC) and warcraft 2 of course. I also watched saturday morning cartoons when they were good. Too many to list now I think.
I strongly believe it has a lot to do with your environment, if you're surrounded by older brothers for example, chances are you skip the shitty pop music like hansons (oh fuck hansons.... HANSONS..kill me pls) aaron carter and stuff like that, and go straight to the old green day music (I don't like them anymore, the new stuff atleast, still love basket case and so on). I hope my text makes any sense :D oh and btw. Vanilla Ice?... really? :o
On October 01 2010 18:12 Jibba wrote: Just so we can clarify, when you kinds born in the 90s talk about Duke Nukem, you mean Duke Nukem 1/2 and not Duke Nukem 3D, right?
Wow, why do people start threads like this? Everyone looks at everything with nostalgia goggles. You think the stuff you grew up with was cool and new stuff sucks...well, so does the generation before you, and so will the next. And as others have said, being born in the 90s makes you a 00s kid really. I was born in 1990 and basically everything I remember was from like 97 at the earliest.
And to OP, wtf are you smoking? The two songs are not even remotely similar, lol. If you are implying the drum beat is vaguely similar...have you ever listened to any pop/hip-hop/mainstream music of any kind, ever?

thats where you are wrong .. kinds in 00s doesn't give a flying fuck about theirs all of them are blinded by gizmos bought by their mommies .. none of them doesn't even know how to play with a stick ..
I don't know man, i was born in 85 and the best time i remember was running around, yelling, playing soldiers with toy guns, hide and seek, bike, inline, skateboarding, got first cell phone at like 16 age, listening to offspring, playing nintendo and all other cool stuff. It was cool and nice childhood and that is what everyone thinks about his childhood. If you now tell to the 12 year old kid that his childhood sucks, he wouldn't understand you at all. He has his cellphone since 7, playing xbox or pc games with all the cool brainwashing graphics and everything is perfect to him. When he turns 25, he will be remembering his childhood as the time with all the cool oldschool stuff, that next generations don't have exactly as we are doing. I mean it is life, guess what can your parents think about your childhood compared to theirs... But one thing is for sure: Justin Beaver sux dix and 80% of the new wave pop/movie stars do too. Unfortunately young people don't understand or maybe we don't ... lol
The mid/late nineties were absouletly horrible and nothing but nostalgia (and the best video games ever) makes you like them. For what reason? Worst mainstream music EVER. We went from Techno and Europop straight into Gagnster Rap...
But the comics were way better than nowadays... Batman back then was awesome. TMHT, Spider Man, X-Men, Gargoyles...
I was ill last week, i know what nowadays is fed to childs... And alone the new Batman series is just an insult to everyone that ever saw the "old/90ies" Batman...

Barney Production company(s) The Lyons Group (1992–2001)
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, debuted on August 28, 1993, and helped launch the Fox Kids programming block of the 1990s, during which it catapulted into popular culture along with a line of action figures and other toys by Bandai.
Rugrats The series premiered on August 11, 1991 and aired its last episode on June 8, 2004. (And the ones in the late 90's early 2000's were the shitty grown up ones)
Space Jam (1996)
All That first aired on April 16, 1994, as a "sneak peek" and debuted as a regular series on December 24, 1994.[1] It was successfully broadcast internationally, in countries such as the United Kingdom, Australia, and Canada.
Pokémon created by Satoshi Tajiri in 1996.
Q: When did the razor scooter come out? A: The Razor Scooter took 5 years to design by J.D. Corporation, and was released in the mid-1990s. I don't have an exact date.
Doom, 2000's? Are you fucking joking? 93.
Diablo was late 90s, released by Blizzard Entertainment on January 2, 1997
Also....
Waddddup. Space jam was my shit, MJ is a god among men. And add in the looney toons, you can't go wrong seriously.
Honestly I'm pretty happy to grow up in the 90's. Had a fairly active childhood yet, introduced to technology a bit later. Our next few generations are just tecnho whores, I mean I love it but with 3d video games and all that craziness coming up parents are gonna struggle to get their kids out of the house .
Our television shows, nickelodeon tween shows included fucking kicked ass man. And come see me on a razor scooter i used to be nasty haha.
My roomate brought home his n64 and we got baked out and had a mario kart war. Quite entertaining.
Meh, I was never into Space Jam. I mean, I saw it and probably thought it was good, but that's it. Now with all this talk about video games is what brings the nostalgia to me. There were so many good games back them, some of which I still play every once in a while, like: The Incredible Machine 2, One Must Fall 2097, Master of Magic, just to name a few. I wish I still remembered the names of all the games from back then. I still have memories of a lot of games I don't even remember the names of. Man, PC games were so good back then.
Maybe I have a better memory than most people, but from about 95 and on I really started remembering the 90s in detail, but like I said, I still remember things like Hocus Pocus. 1981. And I definitely don't consider myself a 90's "kid". All the stuff you guys are mentioning (Pokemon, Power Rangers), I remember watching because my brother, who was born in 1990, watched it. I was a "kid" in the 80's, I watched Punky Brewster and Thunder Cats when they originally aired.
I guess it all comes down to what your definition of a kid actually is... I mean, SC came out when I was 17...

Note that the american comics and all this aired much later Europe which is a pretty big timeframe when it comes to treads like this.
I have Space jam in VHS that was so good as a kid. But there were things that sucked in the 90s the radio back then was as bad as it is today now we just remember the best stuff..... im 20 but i remember a lot from the 90s also where i grew up there were a lot of old and 90s cartoons.
Nostalgia makes something mediocre something good.
I was born in 84 but I'm a 90s kid. My early years were graced with things such as He-man, thundercats, transformers, carebears, and the atari. From there I moved into what would become the staple of my youth with NES, Sega, N64, Ninja Turtles, Power Rangers, X-men, Spiderman, Darkwing Duck, Gargoyals, etc. There are literally too many good 5-13 year old shows that were aired during my time. The music of the 90s was also the most diverse main stream music I believe we have ever had as well but perhaps I'm just eclectic.
This thread makes me want to throw on some JOCK JAMS

I like this thread. I was born in 87 so I was 6-7 when power rangers came out and like 7-8 when All That came out which were like my two favorite non-cartoon shows as a kid.
Just to add a little more nostalgia to this thread. Anyone remember these equally awesome shows?
The cartoons I got to watch as a kid are in my opinion some of the best. Not only did we get to see some of the older good ones but we also had things like X-men, Justice League, Superman, Batman, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and of course Pokemon/Digimon.
Does anyone else remember the Power Rangers Movie? I remember watching that movie and absolutely falling in love with it. I was a die hard power ranger fan (red ranger) and was so amped when they came out with an actual movie for my favorite show as a kid.
edit: I can think of so many more shows now... oh the nostalgia. I almost want to create a new thread lol

and why exactly can't people that were born later enjoy these things if they stuck around long enough for their childhood? please explain this to me, cause you just seem pretentious. I'd just like to say that I too watched Space Jam every day for about 3 months when it became my brother's favorite movie. I can recite almost the whole thing while watching it, it's almost a perfect movie. Kids jokes, adult jokes, Bill Murray, Newman, Danny Devito, awesome music, awesome story.

getting to play diablo when I was like 7 was just awesome, games were still magical to me and I was yet to be jaded by just seeing numbers. I played it at a friends house for a whole night after he fell asleep, that was my first experience with battl.net, even though I owned starcraft I had no idea you could play online with other people. I couldn't wait to go home the next day and tell my dad that there was a whole other aspect to to this game that we just played lan with occasionally.
80's and 90's kids grew up with games that didn't hold your hand, you learned by experimentation and failure. I tried showing one of my little cousins mega man and he just gave up when he couldn't get past the first few screens, most kids are used to games just holding your hand through the whole experience with little to no challenge.
I am an 80's kid, but in the early and mid 90's, these two series played a major role in defining anime fandom in Latin American and other parts of the world (Saint Seiya is late 80s though).
Many kids and teens from elementary to high school in Mexico would watch Saint Seiya and Sailor Moon every Saturday morning.
It makes me sad how they were treated so badly in the U.S.
i find it ironic that most of these kids born in the 90s claiming to be 90s kids are the ones who diss brood war for having old graphics and outdated gameplay

Lol, I don't. If anything, growing up in the 90s has taught me to value content over display. For example, I still love old school Super Smash Brothers (64 and Melee), even thought the graphics aren't as great as Brawl.
i love spacejam i watched it a shitton as a kid. i remember my brother and i made my mom rent it from blockbuster like 5 different times and she finally just bought it for us. I still have it on vhs, watched it not too long ago lol
Ironically, the OP highlighted one of the worst parts of being a 90's kid: you wouldn't even appreciate who Michael Jordan really is! Other parts of the 90's you missed out upon You're too young to appreciate the Shakespearean references in Gargoyles. Can't appreciate how hot Britney was when she launched her career Monica Lewinski/Rodney King/Lorena Bobbit/OJ Simpson Waterboy/American Pie Good Star Wars movie releases
80's cartoons: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Transformers before all the 3d crap GI Joe He Man
The animaniacs intro always said: "Steven Spielberg presents ... Animaniacs"
Probably the best thing about being born in the 90's is it makes the Lord of the Rings generation.

Ironically, I remember most of that except the Shakespearean Gargoyles episodes. That, Rodney King, and Lorena Bobbitt.
Except wait...I didn't really miss out on being a 90s kid when I wasn't watching depressing FOX news coverage or, you know, looking for Shakespeare references in a cartoon.
edit: I also have two much older siblings, so I watched a lot of the 80s cartoons as well. Feels good to be a 90s kid.
Warner had a GREAT run of 90's cartoons starting with Tiny Toons, Animaniacs, Freakazoid, and the DC-based cartoons were great (especially Batman and Batman Beyond).
And of course, one of the most underrated animated movies ever:
