So, to most people it seems pretty obvious that the death of Brood War is imminent. It's fucking terrible to be honest and it's kind of hard to stomach when the reality of "no more seasons of Proleague" or "no more Starleagues for Brood War" hit you over the head.
Despite all of this, no one is really looking at the possibility of KeSPA and MBC fighting Gretech and Blizzard. There is still a lot of money in Brood War, there is still money in the pro teams, and there is still something for KeSPA and MBC to gain. No matter how bleak things look I feel like there's really no way Brood War could die.
It's still popular in South Korea, very popular. SC2 has yet to catch on and honestly I'm hoping it continues to flop with the Koreans. So here's to hoping, no matter how ridiculous or impossible it may seem that KeSPA, MBC, and OGN continue to support Brood War. Here's to hoping that professional Brood War continues into 2020 no matter how impossible that seems right now. And here's to hoping that Blizzard and Gretech have this whole thing blow up in their face.

I hope at the very least Blizzard realizes they can profit more off of bw leagues and runs some sort of imitation proleague or SOMETHING

Yeah... if that were to happen it'd be pretty amazing actually, think of how well BW has been running in Korea and think of this happening in the States. It's very unlikely but can you imagine how awesome that'd be?

compared to the profit that blizzard has been making from sales of SC2 and the future sales of HotS and LotV I doubt going through the trouble of starting a bw league will ever happen.

Blizzard is not going to look back and organize any form of BW league "for the fans". It's just not a sound business proposition for a company that has Blizzcon as it's prime tourney for its other games.
Also, the thread title made me think that there was some kind of epic extremist BW league that would be going on till 2020. I got my hopes up.

Question is is it profitable enough to justify a costly legal battle with uncertain results. My suspicion is they think it isn't. That's not to say Broodwar will disappear. I think the best result for Gretech would be to have less BW and use it to try to get viewers hooked up on SC2. Maybe have SC2 programmes after BW games.

i have faith that the korean population knows that sc:bw is the real deal and would not simply switch to a new game which is coming from a corporation hell bent on taking over and pissing all over their esports and culture.

Blizzard is eventually going to shut down the old BW's bnet in hopes of switching everyone over to SC2 :/ Same for iccup and its server too.
Then everyone will just be stuck with LAN on hamachi or something.

Honestly, I know that 10 years ago and before blizzard made great games, arguably the best ever created in their respective genres. But since that time the company has been slowly but steadily declining in the quality of products(WoW) and decision making (Activision, anyone?). Due to their horrendous track record in recent years, I fully understand KeSPA's point of view and take their side. On another note, why the fuck would anyone not support Broodwar? Its the best game ever created for a reason, and because of this it doesn't deserve to be ditched because a newer, shinier, easier, but nonetheless worse sequel is created? It just doesn't make any sense.

I agree, Brood War is the greatest esport ever created, if it's killed by Activision and SC2 can you imagine how tragic that would be?

I actually made this blog in response to reading that thread. Sure it's blind and stupid optimism but fuck it, I refuse to accept that BW's death may be imminent.

God, if only, I think eventually the game will run out of steam but I really think it can last until 2020. It'd be awesome though if it lasted until I die. I can't imagine seeing my favorite players play a game as boring as SC2...
