The most easy way I can think of is to try to explain the bigger picture instead of going into detail. Try to relate to any other game she might have played, or any "real-life" thing she can relate to.

Explain the objectives of the game, the concept of economy, and how to use hotkeys. Tell her to build lots of workers. Set her loose. I attempted to teach my ex how to play and she was so god awful it was painful to watch. If shes not a gamer at all you are going to have to be very very patient.

WAY too much information.. like, break it WAAAAY DOWNNN. Remember, she doesn't even know marines exist. She doesnt know what vulture is or what it does. Just have her play the game first , just sandbox it with her. Let her see how the units work, what can shoot air, stuff like that. Let her see through her own trails that its better to have more than one production building rather than queuing up 5 in 1 rax. Before any strategy can be discussed, she has to know what pieces are on the game board.

I got into Starcraft from watching the Korean progaming scene, and I imagine it'll be more fun for the un-RTS-initiated to watch before blindly trying to play. Most of the time, they'll suck miserably and be turned off immediately (generalizing), so I think it's more fun to watch, at least for now. Show her some of the threads that sort of explain Starcraft first!

I was in a similar situation and it was fun and easy. I started by showing her the basic units and rules, then we played a few 2v2s where I just kept us alive but didn't really attack. That got her used to making an army and getting her economy going. Then I helped coach her in 1v1 for a few games, which taught her very basic defense and timings. Then she was good to go. She could beat 2 comps when we broke up :D

It's important to keep an interest into it or else she might get bored and don't want to learn anymore. Show some VODs and have her engage in asking questions. Just have fun playing SC for now. Play lots of team games and build up all the basics. Watch some Proleague and Starleagues together. I think it's much better in person. Play in front of her and explain what you're doing and why and then play next to each other and have her play as you coach. Gotta be really patient.

korean vods are good. watch enough of them after having a basic understanding will explain a lot. They break it down so it's easy to understand according to what most ppl tell me. They'll apply it to real life situations or something like that I don't remember lol... but yea they help improve extremely fast

play macro micro with her and let her micro. Thats a good start nononononon you'll just ragequit when you lose. I've had some pretty stupid allies. One game I lost like 3 nexus to a group of vultures...along with a 160 supply army of goon/zeal/arb/obs, and he was my friend irl.

Also I don't know why people think teaching your girlfriend Starcraft should be anywhere different than teaching anyone Starcraft. Do what Chill did. Minus the breaking up part.

What i did back then was after the game, I showed her BWchart and told her what APM was. Then after couple of games her APM started to rise from 45 to like 70. She looked so happy as if her math paper score went up from 45 to 70 XD

Someone new to Starcraft can't be told strategies. You can't sit behind her telling her what to do, because then she's not really playing. If you try what I suggest, you're going to have the urge to help her right away. Don't. It'll be difficult for her indeed, but learning Starcraft with no RTS background (I realize she may have RTS history, but you didn't mention it so I assume not) is a very fragile task.

After that you can try to instruct her with very basic game knowledge... expanding lets you get more resources quickly, more unit production buildings lets you build your army faster. Really simple things like that are surprisingly difficult for people new to RTS to grasp. Why I recommend letting her watch a pro game, then doing her own thing is because she has to understand both what works and how difficult it is to pull off. This advice seems similar to what Chill was talking about earlier. Showing her a pro match is something I wouldn't start with but at least it could have some value. But, having her do a 1v1 against a computer isn't a good starting step... it takes a while to get the basic comfort with the interface before you stand a chance. Instructing her on basic game knowledge is good, but not things like "expanding lets you get more resources quickly." She needs to be able to control one base first! More unit buildings let you build faster? Well yeah she will need to know that but not before she's used to the general sequence of making buildings and units. Hell yeah this is surprisingly difficult for her to grasp... you've basically set her up for failure with that sequence.

It gives you a basic knowledge of what the units are and do. The levels may not be overly complicated and you can start/stop pretty much whenever you want. I mean, the first Terran bootcamp thing is like build 2 supply depots and train 5 marines. It's hard to appreciate watching a pro level TvZ game for example if you don't really know what a science vessel does. That should come later.

He also tell me how Starcraft got so popular while Warcraft 3 cannot. Because of greater supply, harder to micro and bigger battle kekeke. But when I watch, BoxeR already not fielding out for games anymore ![]() When BoxeR is younger he look like some1 came out from the anime world. Now he is still good looking but he has more veteran look nowadays.

Seriously would make a good premise :D Yeah I've noticed a lot of people tend to do that teaching stuff (especially informal things like games, where there's no precedence of a lesson plan you've experienced). It's like they get excited about the thing themselves and just jump all over the place without an overall view.

I Think having her watch a few videos is a really nice beginning. Day[9] daily where he explain the very basics of the game and how to get better. Also, HDH where it's Tasteless vs Day[9] and Tasteless cancels his Robo into a 4 Gate Push Then you can have her play against AIs and teach her a little before moving to 2v2 when the beta is back :D But if you wanna get her into Starcraft 1, You should probably do what Hot Bids said
