EPTSo, thus far, in learning both Zerg on starcraft 1 and starcraft two, i've decided crazier things are done in SC2 than sc1, but the mechanics are alot less forgiving in sc1 and as such i'm failing miserably (why isn't there an F rating on ICCUP so i can at least get the satisfaction of changing ranks from D (to F) ). In SC2 the first thing i did was make 1 of every unit and romp around with them figuring things out with the zerg. then i played about 4 games per unit. rather i built ONLY that unit (+ zerglings to defend early if need be) so i got early practice with every single unit, by being forced into it. So while everyone was going roach wars, my opponents saw 200/200 armies of zerglings, then the next few days 200/200 banelings, then roaches, then hydralisks ect. including a span of three days where i made all infestors, and i won a game SOLELY by neural parasite (in one of it's more modern forms but not it's current obviously)which was hilarious, i waltzed into his natural underground popped up and neural spammed his entire army. got all of it except a couple units, which made him GG immediately, after all he was supply capped and had no army. that was fun. another fun time was when i went ultralisk only, and found they were really damn good, and even though everyone everywhere laughed at me and said ultralisks were terrible, i had done well with them. after learning the units i just played games and games and games. and got pretty good at a few strategies. Finally i started making strategies myself. I switched from Zerg to Protoss, to terran and finally nearing the end of phase 1 i went back to my love, the zerg. This was a great benefit to me and i was able to climb to the top of any division i had been placed in. I enjoyed the game greatly.
Then i started to play Starcraft 1. i've yet been unable (after 20 games) to beat the computer terran, i've beaten the computer protoss and have not played the computer zerg yet. i think that should be my first step in SC1. i find myself trying to select large groups and to make multiple units by pressing s dzdr (my common build in SC2, drone x2 ling x2 and roach). which is screwing me up. i'm also trying to make queens constantly. and not the flying caster queens, the spawning larva spreading creep queens. most of my wins have been by spamming sunken colonies and then building up a large enough army to push and win in one go, which still is difficult and i know is terrible vs real people. i'll figure it out one day.
To end my first post and my basic outline of my learning of SC2 and SC1 i'll state the posts over the next few weeks will be about SC1 and by newbie opinions and any strategies i discover for the first time. Also i'd like to bring up a dream i had last night, which prompted me to make this blog. The dream was about an enormous LAN party to celebrate SC2's launch, obviously it wasn't going to be real LAN because it's SC2, but it was a dream okay? before we started the big tournament a band played, a couple random songs and then the finale comes.
Picture this:
"this last song goes out to all you nerds back there playing starcraft, you guys rock! and also the queen of blades" after this a woman dressed as kerrigan comes out, and starts singing Everytime we touch, by cascada. As soon as the chorus starts women start doing the worm on stage towards Kerrigan, they are dressed as larva. they bring sheets up that look like eggs and out pops women in zergling bikini looking things and start dancing, Overlord costumes fall from the sky and the whole group of units are dancing to the song and going nuts. It was crazy. It was awesome. I wish it were real. The song means a bit more to me than just being this crazy random song, because all my friends and I celebrated our final performance together (we were in a play) by dancing in the dressing room to the song, so i'll always remember that.
