Hi TL. Today I would like to share with you a culinary journey stemming from a picture in the Random Pics thread, and a typical college food budget.
+ Show Spoiler [pics] +So I'm at a friend's house awhile back, just chillin' and playing some video games. Dinner time rolls around and, after seeing the emptiness of the fridge, we decide to go out to eat. At the same time, I recall the picture from the Random Pics thread (pic linked at the bottom) and describe the details to my friend. He agrees with its awesomeness, and we decide to drive off to Safeway for the ingredients. "Ingredients"$8.00 later we have our pack of sausages and a can of spaghetti sauce. He also had some noodles at home. With all our necessary "ingredients", we set to work. ![[image loading]](http://i897.photobucket.com/albums/ac174/Kyuukyuu/Sausage%20Links/IMG_1758.jpg) ![[image loading]](http://i897.photobucket.com/albums/ac174/Kyuukyuu/Sausage%20Links/IMG_1762.jpg) Pastafarian string theoryAnd begin ze making of ze kebab! ![[image loading]](http://i897.photobucket.com/albums/ac174/Kyuukyuu/Sausage%20Links/IMG_1766.jpg) Awesome. After spearing everything together, we realize one major flaw: We are useless nerds who have no idea how to cook a sausage. [center] No worries. LOL. ><[center] We Google around for a bit, and find out that with pre-cooked sausages like the ones we had, simply boiling them together with the noodles would be fine. Sighs of relief were breathed. We wonder how nerds ever survived before the Internet existed. ![[image loading]](http://i897.photobucket.com/albums/ac174/Kyuukyuu/Sausage%20Links/IMG_1769.jpg) And so it begins! We start putting the kebabs into the too-small pot, careful not to let anything snap lest it ruin the awesomeness of what we were creating. In the meantime, we heat the spaghetti sauce and browse Youtube, because hey, who the fuck has time to stand around waiting for things to cook when there is Internets to be had? Omg it's done!![[image loading]](http://i897.photobucket.com/albums/ac174/Kyuukyuu/Sausage%20Links/IMG_1777.jpg) Om nom nom. + Show Spoiler ++ Show Spoiler [Original] +

You would think that it'd taste the same as just regular noodles and sausages put together, but making it like that makes it taste all the more epic.
tbh it doesn't actually taste all that different but man how can you resist, there are noodles INSIDE SAUSAGES!
|
Heh someone frequents reddit =).
|
Was it difficult to spear the sausages without breaking the noodles?
|
Epic o__O must try it sometimes, lol

Similar to a dish I make actually (mine looks less awesome) but turkey franks? Bleck I think I'll modify that a bit and then try this!
edit: oh wait the turkey franks were the model... what type of sausage did you use?

Nope. Although I think we used spaghetti noodles, so if you're using a thinner, brittle type (I have some asian noodles at home that are like this), you might run into some problems when you try spearing the stacks of 4-5.

Yeah turkey franks are pretty gross. I'm not actually sure what we used. They had cheesy bits in 'em though and I think some of that came off when we boiled it . But other than that I have no idea what they were rofl. We just found really cheap sausages at safeway and took them @_@

This is epic, nice job lol

Amazing! I said I was going to do this in the random picture threads but never got around to it, I'm actually going to do this tomorrow!

Making spaghetti on that idea would be amazing.

What kind of sauce did we have here?
|
lol. That's the greatest idea for spagetti and sausage I've ever seen. I must steal this lol. It looks tasty, I might order some food now before everything closes :D

what the fuck hahahaha thats so weird

That's so cool, definitely trying it next year when I actually have to cook for myself lol (no more meal points to survive off of :o). I should gather these kinds of blogs.
|
I dont think I have ever eaten boiled sausages before. However, thats a great idea for easy dorm or quick meal.
|
I like this. When I meat spaghetti I am always bothered by that it is difficult to take a bite that has both meat and the spaghetti in it. This solves the whole problem!

jhahahahaha this is AWESOME.

I made some of this right after reading this blog. Very tasty.

Why cant you just not go through the trouble of spearing the sausages and just top off the boiled pasta with sauce and sausages... It'll be like a ragu.
It'll be much tastier (and faster since that sausage spearing look like it took awhile) if you sear the sausage first in a hot pan (the sear gives a nice crust and a more savory flavor), then add the sauce into the sausage to cover and allow to simmer. Then transfer your boiled pasta directly into the pan with sauce and give a quick toss so all the pasta is evenly coated. The sauce in the pan effectively deglazes the bottom of the pan, picking up all the flavor and infusing it into the sauce!
Granted, if you do this your pasta wont be all cool and through your sausage (it will be laying on top with the sauce like spaghetti and meatballs) but I promise you the time you save + extra flavor is worth it.

I totally wanted to try this too when I saw the original pic! I definitely will once I get the chance to. Looks good!

Your blog made me laugh. Well done :-) edit: It actually looks pretty good!

ooooh nice i gotta try something like this next year

Confused why everyones calling them sausages..aren't they hot dogs lol. Or am I missing something
|
That's actually really awesome... I'm defiitely doing it
|
With thinner noodles (the ones that might break), just use a toothpick to prepoke holes. When the noodles expand, they hopefully will fill in the space.
|
Haha that's awesome, really cool idea to spear the sausage and then boil it. That pasta sauce looks like ketchup though .

|
I just need reciepe for mushroom sauce keke. I'll try this!

Genius! I know what to cook for my nephews now. They love hot dogs and pasta. When combining the two... *makes cosmic sound effects*
|
Very interesting presentation and neat concept.
Just by seeing your demonstration, I want to try with linguini + spicy Sicilian sausage in a simple basil tomato sauce.
Do you think linguini would pierce the sausages or no?
Thanks for the post!

this is amazing. must try this

This is awesome.
Whoever thought of this is a genius.

I think it would work when they are stiff, but if you see some breakage you can try pre poking holes in the sausage with toothpicks and then sliding the pasta through. Once they start boiling, they'll swell up and the sausages should have a firm connection with the noodles.
