Here I want to list features that are seem by many future sc2 players as near necessities. Without these the gaming experiences of people who purchase sc2 will be hurt big time.
1. Chat Channels... enough said. Blizzard has said they want to do something cool and new that bnet 1.0 didn't have. Well... so far they've created facebook integration and that's about it. There is really no excuse for not having these.
2. Online replays like in sc1. This one is obvious too... I mean, I'm sure there is a reason why they are against it, and I'd love to hear it. Whether it a stupid reason or a technical reason, I just can't believe it's impossible to do when sc1 had it in such a simple manner. What I'd like even more though is to be able to make public replays, I always wondered why they had to be passworded.
3. Cross realm play. Now here I do see that they are supposedly looking out for us players by having us play with minimal lag. However, we should have the option (as we did in sc1) to play with people from where should we choose. I think a decent solution might be to have it so you can only ladder vs people from your own region, but can play custom games with anyone.
4. LAN support. Now i remember Waxangel's thread about the huge problem of Chinese pirating of games. But my proposal is to have only NA and European versions of the game to have LAN support (is this realistic or not? I dunno. Can LAN support just be patched in?). Not having LAN period is just sad since it will kill the ability to have home LAN parties for lack of enough bandwidth, and while blizzard has said "DRM is a losing battle" this is just another way of doing the same thing.
If there is anything glaring I missed please say so. But i think these are the four major things I can think of. I know map makers have voiced some concerns, but I can't really say much about it since I know nothing of that stuff.
|
Apparently it's not obvious enough.. wtf blizzard.
|
Blizzard also needs to change the way people create usernames; we can't have 500 bisus or 500 jaedongs in battle net.
|
Definitely agree with all 4 of those things.
Uhhh I think it would be nice if you could have 3 different 1v1 leagues, one for each race. I'm easily diamond with Terran, but I'm sure I would end up at gold or plat with Zerg and Protoss. If I try to practice them now it's going to destroy my 1v1 league I'm playing in right now a Terran.

The bandwidth issue is of major concern. If they plan to incorporate SC2 into WCG or any LAN tournament, imagine the amount of players trying to connect to the network just to play in the qualifiers or RO32 etc. One hell of a nightmare.
|
yea without channels i find it hard to meet people online no cross realm is also a backwards thing because i'm pretty sure most of us sc1 players met have played in teams and such with people from other servers, and b.net 2.0 pretty much forces you to cut ties with them
in the interview didn't they say if the community keeps bothering about it they'll implement it?

to me nr.1 and nr.3 are essential for me to even consider starcraft2 as a game worth buying. 2 feels very important, but not essential. nr.4 i feel personally i can live without it. Though i do realise why other people would be upset about it.

Agreed, I just was kind of assuming they wouldn't be foolish enough to have the actual release have it so multiple people could have the same ID. But now I realize this is actually a valid point because blizz seems to be lacking a bit of common sense nowadays.

Agreed, people can say that you can just do custom games and whatnot to play offraces but that's not as easy plus I'm guessing people who do custom melee would be bad. I think it'd be nice to let the user have a maximum of 4 different individual laddering things (Random, T, Z, P). However, I think the question is do you make it so once you start a ladder with one race you can ONLY use that race? Otherwise people could start a new ladder attempt (with the same race) if they get off to a poor starting record which is against what blizz is trying to do with the one account per copy thing.

I really think a #5 - custom games with names and passwords - should be a necessity as well. Hosting tournament games with the current system is a pain, and how are custom games supposed to function under these circumstances? You want to play DotA. Fine, but which mode? APEM, RDEM, CM...? There's no way to tell people this without them joining your game.
Awful setup.

if bnet added these things i would be a happy happy man. I find it so off that these arent in since it seems like a no brainer for any multiplayer pc games to have these
|
Well it's clear from that recent interview blizzard are completely clueless.
1. Didn't even know people wanted it. 2. Doubt they considered this important. 3. You can go on another realm, just fork over another $60! 4. B.net is so good that people won't want to play on LAN!
To be fair they have a valid point about dirty thieving communists. But surely if b.net is good enough then a lot of the Chinese will buy the game to play on b.net, they're contradicting themselves with that bullshit justification for removing LAN.
Unless that interview turns out to be nonsense I have no faith in blizzard to produce an acceptable game, unless they finally listen to huge community pressure.
|
i really haven't been paying attention to sc2 lately... but good god, these bnet features are terrible right now. All this shit is like basic essentials
Due to a time limitations and a general lack of interest (it never ever grabbed me like bw) I was a bit hesistant on getting a new rig for the game. If this stays the way it is, I'm pretty sure I won't be buying.
1-3 are just so simple.
|
its really simple for me. if they implement these features ill buy the game. if they don't i think i'll just pirate it and play some of the campaign
|
I feel that 1,3,4 are completely necessary. 2 is extremely useful, but I wouldn't change my mind on buying SCII if it came to that.
|
1 and 2 I agree on, although replays being publicly hosted isn't the biggest deal for me.
Point 3, lag is a retarded reason. Look at ICCup and its LAN LATENCY integration I can play without lag with Koreans, I don't see how they use lag as a reason to separate servers like that, its pointless. Its the year 2010, technology exists to avoid laggy games, there is NO reason to isolate servers like that.
As for point 4, creating LAN integration on any version would lead to the Chinese using there bypass servers and pirating techniques for it. Any LAN integration means China isn't paying for more than one copy of your game. I think it sucks, but from a marketing standpoint it makes sense. Maybe they will patch it in a couple of years after the games out after all major sales are through, but I really doubt it. I know they said they aren't going to waste their time dealing with DRM issues, but that is probably because not having LAN support dealt with a huge part of that.

My Z and P are on similar levels though, so it doesn't effect me that much.

I actually would really, really, really love 2. It would make delayed casts a lot easier.
Furthermore, teaching a noobie the game by watching over the replay with them (and I know a lot of my friends will be noobies ) and going over what they did wrong.
