Just a question for people with experience.
Basically im going through mid term exams right now and i don't expect to pass them all, and most likely fail a course or two. My gpa is sitting at a 2 right now and will most likely drop lower by the end of the year.
I just dont have any motivation right now, all I want to do is party/have fun and my grades are showing it. Next year I don't know what I will be doing, but I do intend on completing some college or university program at some point.
I'm just wondering how hard it is to get back into college or uni after achieving such a low GPA, if its even possible.

All depends on you. I left university after three years, but because it was a horrible place, not because I enjoyed partying. Maybe the partying is telling you that you really don't have a reason to be there right now, and you're not excited about what you're learning.
Taking time away from school might help you think straighter and figure out what would make you happy. Did for me!

You're in Canada. At least you didn't waste any money like you would if you lived in oh say, the USA.
|
Best to take some time off and figure out what you want to do. Sometimes it's possible to arrange for some leave with the school you're attending currently so you can come back in a semester or two.
|
Are you the one paying for your own college? If your parents are paying for it I'd start by telling them to cut you off and force you to pay back your tuition, that's a pretty damn good motivator. It works for me anyway.
|
What are you studying? Maybe it's too hard for you and you're deflecting by partying.

My $13,000 student loan would like a word with you.
To attempt to answer your question, yes, you can go back to school with a shit GPA, but it won't be a great school and you may have to start in open studies.
I believe if you get put on academic probation and actually get kicked out there may be a 2 year period you have to wait before going back.

college is a easy to get back into, but the learning part is probably what will be difficult. you can pay whatever fees and they'll admit you, maybe after an weak admission test, but it's going to be so hard knowing you already failed once, and the stuff out of high school is no longer fresh in your mind.

true that although you could have picked a more reasonable figure i shell out ~7-8 of tuition/other fees every term (4mnth) >.<

It sucks, but if you are failing classes there is no reason for you to be in college. Take a break.

exactly what im going through, pretty sure i will be forced to withdraw for a year as it is u of a's engineering faculty's requirement. omg... fml

What 3clipse said, find out what your school's policy is in regards to academic probation. For mine if you fall below a 2.0 you get one semester to try and bring it up. I'm actually in the same spot as you are right now. I'm bordering on the 2.0, but not because I party. I actually do my work, read the material, and study. I just can't seem to get decent grades for my non elective courses.
Its funny (well not really) because for my electives I just show up for class and take notes then show up for the test and can easily ace the midterms. But for the classes designated towards my major I do all this work and I'll be lucky if I get a C on my midterms.
Good luck though, try to focus. Partying isn't really going to help you much in your later stages of life. :p

happened to me too. was studying physics and parting too much. took a semester off to gain some focus on school, but that semester off turned into 3 years =\
you gotta snap out of the glamour and fun of partying, and start back on uni right away or it's all over. i regret taking that semester off. i don't think i'll be going back
|
partying is actually NOT cool

you can take unmatriculated classes at another school then apply for full-time and transfer credits. When your credits are transferred your grade won't be.

I'll match your 13k student loan and raise you an 80k Parent Plus Loan.

it really is about motivation. If you aren't motivated then maybe school isn't for you? If you are happy drifting by with the bare minimum then by all means do it but some times it can really be hard to find something motivating enough to dedicate yourself to school
I'm not sure if you're actually asking if the school will just physically let you back in? Most don't care if it doesnt get too low, cause obviously they'll kick you out if your gpa is below pass, like 2.0, other than that there's no difference to them as long as you giving them the monies

pick up a job at min. wage for a summer or semester. If you think you want to do stuff like that forever, then drop out afterwards.
Definitely kicked me in the shins

eh - I dropped out and played poker for about a year or so, had a blast doing that and now I'm in sales and make about ~75k/yr
Although on a side note, I am still taking night classes now - because I realize unless I want to own a business I'll have a hard time moving up the corporate ladder. Which I'm way to fucking lazy to actually do the shit I do on my own. Although I'm surrounded by questionable leadership and don't really understand how they get dressed by themselves in the morning... But hey, it's a paycheck!
When I went into college I had no direction, I went because I didn't want to be kicked out of my house and pretty much disowned by my parents. Partied a lot - and had fun but it was never for me at that time in my life. Now I don't mind the pointless work when I look at the big picture of what I'm aiming for (baller vacations and early retirement).
So it sounds like you need to sit down with an advisor and really talk about what you want out of your life right now, and what you want in 2-5-10 years. If you truly want those then make arrangements to hit your goals.

Ugh exact thing in OP is happening to me... Can't wait for the semester to be over. Cryptography especially is murdering me. On top of that I'm broke as shit. Constantly leaving projects and assignments to the night before they're due and figuring out I don't know how to do half of it.
