It's for a single year. :/ Feels like a lot when I've never had more than $2000 in the bank previously.
But all in all, this year is the heaviest financial burden I should have to bear. RESP money and parents paid for most of my first year, I should have some money saved up for 3nd year, and I have a paid internship before my 4th year, so I shouldn't come out of it too badly.

Im starting to fall apart days before spring break. Dont know your circumstances but for me i keep on forgetting it was my decision to go to college. My parents never forced me too and i dont even have a single idea of the amount they're paying to support me.

i should have rephrase that. 13k/year in loans is nothing for many american college students. i agree, i have never had more than 2k in the bank either and luckily i don't have massive loans either due to a lot of grants and some scholarships.
a lot of private universities in the US don't have great finaid and all of them cost ~$50,000/year to attend.

Private colleges/universities in the USA will rape you financially. Unless you're really poor and have one parent (friend at USC) then the school gives you a shitload of financial aid.

it takes over 50k a year to go to any UC full time and they're not even private universities...
and in regards to partying / not caring... just put them off a couple weeks while you take your midterms so I wouldn't be so fucked up... If you can't do that just get a job and take a break so you'll regain perspective? D:

You can pull it back up if this is only your first semester. I know a lot of people who had academic issues their first semester, and although my university is lenient on core classes due to it being a music university, there still is a policy where if you are on academic probation for more than two semesters then you get suspended. It's as simple as pulling back what you can for this semester, and then making sure you do very well the next one. Keep in mind that if you're going for 4 years, you have 8 semesters that average into it.. failing two classes your first one might not be as big of a deal as you think (i.e., you won't have to drop out).

i would also say that most of high ranking us private univerities offer good/accomodating financial aid. (although right now might be the best time for it)

It's fucking difficult and expensive. Forget loans, you don't get as high paying jobs without a degree. To get a better job, you have to go back to school. 90% of students aren't going to work full time while they go to school full time, so assume you drop out for two years and go back to finish in three more, that's a ton of time to be wasting when you could be done and getting real salary.
