Psh, I've been here since 06 and still haven't revealed that I'm a girl. you just did i know what you havent reveal yet though. Not really sure what you're saying. If you mean how i would know shes the only girl on tl that kept it quiet. Thats why i wrote i think. There might be a girl on tl who people recognize who's a girl that no one knows its just i havent seen any yet. Its just i always noticed her name from way back and i remember like a year ago it was pretty big when people found she was a girl because of how long she kept it. Like most girls make a blog on their first post saying how they're a girl. you don't get it so i'll explain it to you. for all you know there could be 100 girls on the site who haven't revealed their identity as you only know they are girls once they reveal it, thus saying "actually i think shes actually the only girl on tl i think that kept the fact that shes a girl for so long" is a retarded statement even if you preface it with 'i think' The entire point of the op is that she shouldn't have to hide or promote the fact that she's a girl, and get treated much differently for either. Your response is obviously going to be "that's the way it is" which is what the problem is.
well i mean guys trash talk eachother online just as much too so maybe by mocking her they are treating her like one of the guys
it's not like she doesn't have her fair share or 'normal' online friends and her fair share of lil nerds sucking up to her too (seems so from the looks of this thread too)
seems pretty normal to me, i got those 3 categories too lol

If you're a female gamer, you pretty much have to be playing with friends to be treated "normally". Otherwise if you're playing online with random nobodies you'll just be hit on / harassed / insulted.
Its not really surprising at all though. Don't feel special, that's how random nobodies act online in general, not just towards girls.
So, find/make a group of friends you can play with and feel comfortable with. That's what makes games worth playing anyway.

We're not talking about talking shit between friends. If anonymous guys start bashing you, then they're called assholes. Everyone with a brain knows there wouldn't have been that reaction if a male friend had gotten on vent.

That's racist... against women.

Well, thanks for the random replies guys. Actually some pretty thought provoking comments from a few of you.
I guess I don't want to have to hide my gender on the internet, and yes I suppose I'm a little too sensitive to other's words. So my new solution is to just stop watching the comments in the stream lol.
Oh wells.

So I hop on TL and check the streams. Orb, a friend of mine from highschool is streaming some 1v1 action in SC2. I hop on vent, join his channel, and ask if he wants to do some 2v2's. I can apparently be heard on the stream. The reaction to my sudden appearance is frustrating. I should really remember to turn off the damned chat window on those streams...
"Woah who's the female?" "She sounds fat." "Wait who's the girl?" "Girls don't play starcraft." "That girl shows up on several TL streams" "What's she look like?" "Pictures?" "She's probably just an attention whore" "LOL girl playing SC must be ugly" "Girls only play games to get male attention." "Is she any good?" "Wait who's the chick?" "cam whore prolly"
There's no worries. You can tell most of the people that type that kind of shit probably never even had a date.

And the sad thing is that TLnet polls clearly show most of TLnet'ers are actually in their 20's =o

i find the idea of girls playing starcraft arousing.
Anyway, i don't know why people are sexist on the internet, i think for some it might just be an adopted culture and others embrace the power of anonymity to outlet their anger they've had with women and stuff. I'm sure a lot do it for a laugh as well, humor on the internet is at a pretty low point.
