people are always going to complaint about how it's not as good as the original... Still looks pretty cool and if anything I'm excited for the cinematix clips/awesome storyline Blizzard has got us used to.

Starcraft 1 dying isnt a problem, its if starcraft 2 isnt enough to kill it and take its place we have a problem, because then we will have the same situations tons of competitive games have had before us (and even us to some extent), of the more recent game getting the tournaments even tho the hardcore and competitive gamers prefer the old. eg's: quake 4 vs quake 3, cs 1.6 vs cs source, ssb:melee vs ssb:brawl and to some extent sc:bw vs wc3. Smartest post in this blog. No matter what everyone might think about starcraft2 and/or sc:bw, the fact of the matter is that when starcraft2 comes out officially, all the foreign money is going to be going to starcraft 2. The only question is wether or not korea will actually join in and abandon starcraft completely. But all the foreigners you love to see play now will have a proper shot at making a living off of starcraft 2 because of the money that is going to come in from sponsors(starcraft 2 is shiny, requires better computers and is hyped up, 3 good reasons why sponsors will favor starcraft2 competitions over any other to sponsor).

Unfortunately, the money has to be there, though. Once the money moves over to SC2, SC1 will slowly die out as sponsors put up less money and teams split up their current lineup into SC2. Competitive SC1 will die out at most 2 years after SC2 comes out would be my guess. But hey, CS never died when CS: Source came out.

Ehh actually kind of true. I mean if SC2 had all the shit that we loved about BW everybody including myself wouldn't hestitate at all to switch immediately..

Now, this might put starcraft into a more niche slot, because any newcomers won't likely play BW because it's outdated. I guess it feels to me that BW would die out in two ways. Either a) SC2 is an awesome game and complete success, in which case it replaces BW and could quite possibly gather steam for ESports outside of Korea, b) SC2 is just another RTS, in which case BW might slowly die off over 3,4,5+ years as there would become less of an influx of players. IMO you should all be hoping starcraft 2 is a good enough game that starcraft 1 does 'die'. I agree with this.

SCII ~ A fleeting experience. + Show Spoiler + that's just my personal emotion about this whole thing. when i look at progaming in korea, when i look at tsl, i don't see a problem with myself watching broodwar in 10-15 years - with the same graphics. so the comparison to chess was not random. chess also got boring graphics, but still the game is played because the gameplay is just so unique and "deep". scii only is a worthy compensation if the level of play doesn't drop, meaning the heights to which supertalented and super ambitious individuals (e.g. flash, jaedong) can take this game.

I think almost everyone wants to keep playing BW. The real issue is that some will people quit, their friends will probably quit as well and little by little servers gonna be empty. And when there won't be enough players to earn a decent ad revenue, iccup server will probably close down. This is sad to say because I wanna play BW forever, but lets just face the truth, will you still play if you need 30 minutes to find a game and all the friends you used to play with for 8 years are playing SC2 now ?

(exactly like the situation with cs16 and source) I can't say in advance how I'll end up splitting my time once sc2 is released (or if I end up getting access to the beta). but I do know that for the moment I'm continuing to practice on iccup and study pro games as if nothing had changed.

I'm sticking with BW ty very much I don't need another game to play this one is enough. Fucking Blizzard trying to split up our community. Although I'd argue you're taking the other extreme...being disgusted by people for wanting to play a sequel and thinking blizzard is doing this to split up the community? Wtf? Why are you so certain? Is there some source from KeSPA saying that they will do this? This mentality that somehow just because it's *StarCraft* 2 it's going to be picked up by KeSPA is being just a little naive. I think the only way that is going to happen is if it is as perfect as it's predecessor is. SC2 still has a lot of tweaking to undergo and as it stands it's just another new RTS that has a lot of potential. I encourage you to read this article, particularly the opening paragraphs. Only when SC2 supersedes BW do I expect people to be certain KeSPA will "switch over".
