I am a music major in college where I play trumpet.
So, I'm home for a month during the break and I practice regularly in my basement. Sometimes, when I am done practicing, I leave my trumpet sitting on top of my case instead of inside the case. It's a really expensive instrument so whenever I leave it there, my parents yell at me to put it in the case.
So, today, my older brother was cleaning stuff up in the basement and he accidentally knocked my heavy metal music stand over. My trumpet was on top of my case and the music stand fell next to it, missing it by inches (luckily). I told my brother that he was lucky it missed my trumpet. He countered that, actually, I was lucky because it would have been my fault for leaving it on my case.
Then my mom overheard and told me it would have been my fault and then the yelling started...
And then my dad yelled at me later telling me it would have been my fault.
I think this is bullshit. My parents always fucking side with my brother.
Third party opinions please?

just put the fucking trumpet in the case -__- jesus christ. you are NOT in college
this blog is ridiculously immature

how is this not your fault again
it has a case for a reason, no?

If your parents yell at you for leaving it out, you should already know that it could get damaged quite easily (and have no excuse if it does). I think you'd be at fault if it got damaged.

The argument here was not whose fault it was, but rather whether you or your brother was lucky. You are wrong to tell your brother that he was lucky that it didn't hit your trumpet, because it's your trumpet, not his. You, not your brother, are lucky that your stupid trumpet wasn't broken.

its really sad how these blogs never work out for the person posting them =\
i'll be nice and say its both of your faults (mostly you, though i kinda understand why u did)
|
it would be your fault.
If the trumpet were on the case and still ruined, you could be blaming and screaming away.
|
There is a reason you have a damn case, use it, it would totally be your fault if an accident occured and your trumpet was damaged while not in its case.

definately. if your trumpet gets hit, are you really going to care that much who to blame? youre going to care that your freaking expensive musical instrument has been damaged and that will be your priority 1. so take some simple precautions to make sure it doesnt get damaged. arguing with your brother over who to blame is a lose-lose situation!
|
your fault though your bro would have some blame too but it wouldnt (shouldnt) get damaged in the first place if it was in the case if it were to happen.

Your family seems pretty down to earth and chill.

People drop shit sometimes. put your trumpet in the case, and then go back in your cave t_t

Why dont just you and your brother chill, who cares whos at fault? This is especially redicilous since nothing broke. Try solving problems instead of creating new, non-existing, ones!

Dude it's totally your brothers fault. What the hell was he doing snooping around in your basement, couldn't he have cleaned some other time while you weren't in there? Jesus the nerve of this guy really grinds my gears. Go into his room while he is sleeping and blast the trumpet right in his face. It's his fault for sleeping there after all.
|
lol of course it would have been your fault, but why are you arguing over something that didn't happen? haha
|
Think you are just lucky it didn't break, if it were to break, it would have been your own fault. Slight chance of your parents telling you all this time to put that trumpet in the case was to protect it from random accidents like this. Can't say much about your parents thou, every family is different, but they have a point.
|
dude, im totally on your side. putting instruments away everytime you take a break is a huge pain in the ass. my sax is literally always out on the case or my bed. if anyone breaks it, im not taking responsibility seeing as they probably shouldnt have been in my room breaking my shit. (god, i chip a lot of reeds like this though )
