Thank you. Some of your posts really resonated with me. I agree that I need to 'fix' myself first and foremost before doing anything.
Some of your words were inspiring to me but I don't want to point any post out lest I exclude the others.
I'm just glad my family and I can still find moments of joy and we will have eachother during this tough time.

Thank you again guys.

Not really advice, but I suppose words of encouragement... a "you're not in it alone" if you will. I think this one statement sums up what a majority of Team Liquidians are concerned about right now.

you want to be around people and make some money in a job that is easy to get?

I think your best bet is working at some sort of retail store and being a cashier/customer service/etc.
With a gust of wind, perhaps.

Things like this always make me realize my life isn't as bad as I make it out to be. I don't really know what to say it seems like half the problem is in your head. By that, I mean the mental and social issues you are facing.

I think you need to force yourself to solve those issues first, and then try to figure out the best path to go towards. I know you're faced with tough issues at home now, but solving these problems will also help you down your life.

Sorry for your situation.

but here are my ideas:
1 - websites. I see you are spending a lot of time at home so you can learn to make websites. It's really not that hard to make basic HTML sites.
2 - the police force is a very viable option. I don't know your physical trauma though.
3 - when I was in the US I met a guy who worked at a hardware store. I think it was Home Depot. He had a decent life and he said he has only high school.
4 - you can see what it takes to be a teacher in some school. Shouldn't be too hard. I am guessing at most 2 semesters training.
5 - maybe work at some store like Best buy or Staples. That seems doable too and doesn't require a lot of education.

maybe because he's in a horribly serious financial struggle but still finds the time to post about it on a starcraft progaming message board?

I'd suggest going to a technical school of some sort. I work in a hospital and the people who have tech jobs (x-ray, phlebotomy, etc.) start at about $20 an hour. Any job you could get that doesn't require training would probably be very difficult to help support your parents with.

It is sort of depressing to lower your standards (I assume you were aiming for a bachelors or higher), but don't forget that you can always take classes on the side.

not an easy job but you can always try the military. non combatant positions like aerospace controller.

with financial matters, you gotta just talk to a recruiter and find out where you stand with a partially finished degree.

The military is rather fun. I dunno if its your type of thing but you will meet many many cool people plus its an experience you wont find anywhere else. If you are weak now (either mentally or physically) you will come out strong and with a whole new view on things.

Go down to a recruiter like jjun said and check it out and grab some pamphlets, look into the reserves at first if you arent sure.

yeah miltiary is a great option for a lot of SC players. you'll develop physically and learn basic social skills, two things completely absent in SC ^^

I don't think you have a good grasp of what the job market is like/requirements are like in the US right now. None of your suggestions are easily obtainable as you say, or if they are, will not make the kind of money that you seem to think they will.

True, but he's Canadian. Is the market any better over there or no?

I have no idea what it is like in NA so im afraid I cant give out any advice.
But one thing I think you have to have in mind is : Dont ever lose your faith, dont just stay in one place and think '' Can I do this, Can I do that''. You should overcome your failure/incident that impact your life in the past and TRY.
Dont expect to find the exact ideal job first time around, maybe if you try hard enough things will start to change, and you will not even need us to point you where to go
Best of luck

I feel you Stack. While my situation is only half similar to yours and that was I was in a major depression for 2 years. Lots of things changed around me, myself, family, and friends, and people I used to know. Look, it is never to late to do something with your life. I would recommend you to help yourself first and that is keep going to the therapists and do whatever it takes (don't hurt yourself or others) to fix your life up FIRST. Then...you can start thinking about looking for a career to take care of your family and yourself because if you're not stable and get rid of the roots of your problems, then you'll just revert back to the bad-old self that might end up getting you fire from your future job. I hope you get better soon!

My dad is a industrial designer, and he and about 12 other designers got layed off last year. For the first time 35 years(!!!), he is unemployed. He's applied to every job everywhere, in state, out of state, and nothing. He's 60 years old, and there's not enough to retire on, so he's really in it. None of the other designers have found jobs since, either. They've always been great with their money, we grew up as a real bare-essentials kind of family+ Show Spoiler +
(we had money, we just spent it all on college and church missions and bills and such and saved the rest).
But within about 7 years, they won't be able to pay any bills at all, or property taxes at this rate. I'll they'll have is puny SS checks by then. So I know what it's like to have your family hurting financially.

Go back to college. Pick something and stick with it. Computer Science is always in high demand. Give that a whirl.

But before you dismiss my suggestion as "Gee, thanks...", maybe you should read this:

Listen, bro. It's clear you're lacking any self confidence and direction. That's fine, it happens to us all. Don't hide behind bullshit statements like this. I've been going to college full-time for 4 years, and there is no one alive more anti-social than me. I've done great without "networking and socialization." You don't need to go to parties or drink starbucks with a bunch of punks to succeed academically. It sounds like you're always depressed when you try anything, because you seem to already have convinced yourself you will fail, since you've already quit everything you've tried thus far. I understand a lot of this. I really do. And what I'm about to say won't sound like great advice. But it's the truth. You're going to have to just completely "buckle down" and suck it up and finish this time. You can be miserable doing it. Fine. But part of life is tolerating what you can't stand. In this case, the way you're talking, is that you can't seem to stand your life, or yourself. I don't know all of these details, but the why is irrelevant. Since you've assigned yourself all of these burdens that your family is going through, along with your own burdens, you can't afford to wax and wane like this. I really, really, really don't like college. Hate is close to what I feel. For many reasons. At the end of every quarter I think about dropping out. But I never did. I know finding a job after college will be hell, but I'm not going to walk out in the world and say, "Hey! I got a high school diploma! Anybody hiring?" I'm doing this all for my future, bleak or not. Everyone has to put up with serious shit sometime in their lives. Life sucks. It really does. If you can't seem to love yourself or your life, you still have to just grind your teeth and walk through a field of shit. Your sister's going into debt in exchange for a better career. I'm putting all my eggs in the basket that is my degree. Every pursuit has a risk and a price. Instead of looking at why this won't work, what's wrong with this, etc. you just need to fucking do something. "He's just being smart about it" No, you're so preoccupied with a fear of failure, you might even be sabotaging yourself in any pursuit subconsciously. Because once your lay around depressed about everything, it's nigh impossible to shake yourself out of that. You've got to fucking do something. You ask at the end of your post for helpful career suggestions and options, but everything you wrote before that indicates that you have no faith in yourself. I don't know the effects of therapy, but I can at least guess that it won't help with jack shit if you aren't willing to do something for yourself. So you have to pick something and just fucking do it. You won't find "happiness" or easy solutions for whatever is up with you on the way, but you'll be pursuing a goal, you'll be on a path, instead of meandering. That's my tough love.

Uni Physics is rape
Even with a good professor its hard to memorize and comprehend everything, maybe the only course that seems to be keeping me from not changing my major to CNT or something else.
