Son nécessaire- Its necessary.
Il est nécessaire/C'est nécessaire

j'aime travailler dans mcdonald. – I like working in mcdonalds.
J'aime travailler chez Mcdonalds

Wasting time - gaspillage de temps

This is more of a noun form, like "A waste of time." I think it would be even more correct in this context if you were to say une perte de temps

The action of wasting time would be perdre du temps

yo your vocab is messed upppp

VOCAB:

Les devoirs - homework

C’est nul - It’s boring

sont nécessaires - are necessary (or just take shallow's correction)

Beaucoup de devoirs - a lot of homework

l'école n'est pas importante - School’s not important.
(idk exactly how you'd make it work, "l'école n'est pas importante" would rather mean that the school isn't prestigious or something, if you were to say that school isn't important compared to other things I'd use: les études ne sont pas importantes - studying (well, word per word it'd be the studies) isn't important)

meilleure société - Better society

??? - Busy work
busy - occupé
work - travail
usually don't mix them, say "j'ai beaucoup de travail" (I have a lot of work) or "je suis débordé" (I'm overwhelmed (with work))

Les devoirs ne sont pas nécessaires à l'université, mais ils sont favorables - Homework is not necessary in college
(always refer homework as plural except when you mean one particular assignement/task)

j'aime travailler au mcdonald. – I like working at mcdonalds.

Jouer au soleil – play in the sun

en bonne santé- Healthy

trop longtemps - too long

IQ 180 - QI de cent quatre vingt (QI = Quotient Intellectuel)

Wasting time - perte de temps
(like shallow wrote, gaspillage de temps refers as wasted time or a waste of time)

très occupé- Very busy

Is time on homework, time well spend?

2. Qu’est-ce que to a fait, si to n’avais pas le devoir?
What would you do if there wasn’t any homework?

What’s your first impression on homework, did it change?

Do you want homework if its an option, why or why not?

5. Combien d’heures tu as travaille pour devoirs
How much time do you spend on homework a day?

you could also say Combien de temps, à chaque jour, passez-vous à faire des devoirs?

What is an option to replace homework?

edit: sexy corrections

Curse my Quebecois French!

Some of the masculine/feminine stuff I mess up is just silly; normally I just know it intuitively, but I fuck it up more often than not. It always perplexes me how even really young French children know what's masculine or feminine and never seem to fuck it up. :p

the fact that there's only the "that's how it is no questions asked" rule for gender in french certainly doesn't make it easier to learn

edit: by the way, it's rather hard to translate High School and make everybody happy. Secondary school is defined as High School and Middle (or Jr. High) in the US whereas in Canada it's only known as High School or Secondary school.

Likewise, in Québec there's "l'école secondaire", and in France there's "collège" and "lycée".
I'll spare you the other countries but I'm sure you get the point.

I'm not one to correct a native French-speaker's grammar, but are you sure?

I was always taught that the proper phrasing was 'si (imparfait), qu'est que tu (conditionnel)'

It just seems weird to me to use the conditionnel tense for both verbs?

I'm also relatively sure that the correct phrasing is "J'aime travailler chez McDonald's", but this might be some nitpicky thing that really doesn't matter.

Oh well, I'm getting into this now

Both are used but the correct form would be à/au. Copypasta inc:

What’s your first impression on homework, did it change?

It's "rapport" with two p's.

I'd say "impression" is more accurate than "avis" here, though it's a very dumb question even in english.

5. Combien d’heures tu as travaille pour devoirs
How much time do you spend on homework a day?

you could also say À chaque jour, combien de temps passez-vous à faire des devoirs?
silly french rules...

"à chaque jour" is incorrect. "chaque jour" is OK.

What is an option to replace homework?

"Remplacer" with a m.

It gets to the point where, if I don't know what the genre is, I have a 90% chance of getting it right just based on precedents and other words I know.

When that fails, I look like a total knob.

after pop's corrections everything seems pretty much perfect. At least I can't find a phrasing that doesn't look natural.
And yeah, French is a really hard language, to the point that even a lot of frenchies struggle to write it properly.

But you can just say QI in French (right?) - like in English but the other way around...

The alternate sentence using "à chaque jour" definitely doesn't sound right. There is no reason to use "à" here. I'm not quite the rule kind but rather go with gut feeling so I have no idea if it's incorrect or simply awkward and why (yeah I know that doesn't help much lol, sorry about that) but "Combien de temps, chaque jour, passez-vous à faire des devoirs?" sounds much better. And it would sound even better with "vos devoirs" but that's quite advanced nitpicking.

Also, "devoir" in singular form is better used when talking about a specific piece of work:
But when conveying the meaning of general homework it's always in plural form:
Mum: "Va faire tes devoirs"
Son: "Je n'ai pas de devoirs à faire ce soir !"

I have to agree à chaque jour sounds redundant but I actually checked in the last HS french manual I have and it was used in one of the examples. I suppose it's one of the many things we do differently compared to France o_O
I also agree on vos devoirs but I didn't go ahead and make it too complicated either

and yeah, I treated the whole devoir vs devoirs in the vocab
(always refer homework as plural except when you mean one particular assignement/task)

Perfect. "Combien de temps passez-vous chaque jour à faire des devoirs" works too ( it is basicly the same ).

you could also say Combien de temps, à chaque jour, passez-vous à faire des devoirs?

O,O
"à" + "chaque jour": Grammatically incorrect

the only one exception could be "à chaque jour suffit sa peine" but it is a proverb.

hmm

wrong manual is wrong then :S
it is because they're both time preposition? redundancy or something?

I guess it is a redundancy. It just sounds wrong for French people from France.
"à" isn't needed with "chaque jour". However it might be used by Quebec people.

But French is kinda weird because for example "à + chaque fois" is used everyday ( although purists seem to not like it ) and i don't know what is the grammatical difference between "fois" et "jour".

It seems that: "à + chaque" is just always wrong except for the old proverb ( where "à" begins the sentence ) however even the average French guy can tell you that "Combien de temps à chaque jour passez vous à faire vos devoirs ?" is incorrect whereas sentences with "à chaque fois" are often used.

French grammar is ... >.<

I'm positive I've heard the Quebecois at my school use it, which is where I've assimilated most of my French.

kk Boblion that's pretty much what I figured

born in France raised in Quebec so I kinda had to adapt my french to be more eloquent when I'd visit family in France o_O that's why like some stuff does confuse me lol
