i'm not sure if the growth thing is true, but it only applies to younger kids if true (under 14) just start out with comfortable weight until you master the forms and everything, then start making a stricter plan for yourself. eat well, and if you aren't sore the next day -- you didn't try hard enough =p

I think i was 5/6 when I was 14, and now I'm 19 and I'm only 5/8 5/9. Are you asian? if you are then you might just be out of luck. I also think its a myth that pushing weights stunts your growth. If you are meant to grow you will grow, if not then the best of luck to you. Definitely start hitting the weights when you are 18 though. It's a great way to meet new people and once you start seeing results it almost gets addictive.

If you weightlift excessively when you're 14-, your growth will actually be stunted, but at 16 generally your body is well enough developed that your growth wont be affected. You're in the clear, but I'm sure your parents wont be satisfied with some random 16 year old forum member's confirmation!

My cousin is only 14 and he's well over 175cm and I'm sure he'll still grow taller as my uncle is 180cm+ Don't lift too much, and to be honest, I think at your age you should do some real sports, go play bascketball, go play some soccer

I've yet to see any evidence for the myth however :S

the ends of the bones are responsible for bone growth, and if damaged that can stunt growth. Lack of strength conditioning increases sports injuries like ACL tears. You can't be sure that jumping on a treadmill might damage those parts.

I don't think any of them will grow up to be tall. to OP: Yea it's probably a myth, but this is the myth I grew up with as well, so I'd advice against it. You can start working out when you are 18-20 (I started at 19), and it won't be too bad.
