And I'll reiterate: Unless official TL policy is that people can just ban dodge by making new amounts (I know it isn't), telling people they can do so is a bad idea. It leads to situations like these.

Everyone has their price. I am certain that there is a sum you can pay and get unbanned.

And I'll reiterate: Unless official TL policy is that people can just ban dodge by making new amounts (I know it isn't), telling people they can do so is a bad idea. It leads to situations like these. It actually used to be, before we got the graded punishments. (first years we didnt have warnings or temp bans). The idea was basically that if a banned poster came back and started posting in a way that didn't make us ban them again, that would constitute a successful rehabilitation. ![]() But then it basically depended on that poster not a) making it known by his choice of name that he was the guy who just got banned and b) that he stayed a bit under the radar. And there are quite some quality posters that have gone through this ritual. ![]()

Both... are not saying they love your system and want to protect. They are saying that it is your system and that as long as it is this is how it works. reminds me of the argument that people weren't encouraging the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians because they simply saw it as inevitable. “If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor. If an elephant has its foot on the tail of a mouse, and you say that you are neutral, the mouse will not appreciate your neutrality.” ― Desmond Tutu EDIT: Actually I like this one (and it's author) better: “Washing one’s hands of the conflict between the powerful and the powerless means to side with the powerful, not to be neutral ” – Paulo Freire

JimmiC's first paragraph seems pretty much on point. I don't feel like putting forth a position one way or the other on the rest of his post.

(And as a corollary, that focusing on the much firmer evidence of bias also linked is a more persuasive argument.) JimmiC's first paragraph seems pretty much on point. I don't feel like putting forth a position one way or the other on the rest of his post. I guess my question is who needs to be persuaded at this point? This to me is the liberal version of the endlessly charitable interpretations of Trump from Republicans while still basically acknowledging he's corrupt, incompetent, etc... EDIT: That said, I should be clear that I don't think that (especially by itself) is "damning evidence" it's been a thing before Warren was. I mentioned it when 538 put Harris in a tier with/above Bernie iirc. I'm pretty confident that you can't find a quote from one of them that the best way to change minds is too be a asshole to people. ... you are a constant asshole... Back at ya pal ![]()

This seems like you're saying "I'm under no obligation to make sound arguments because everybody who doesn't already agree with me is The Enemy who isn't worth having a discussion with, besides me just telling them what I want them to think".

Is that what liberals are saying about Trump apologists? + Show Spoiler + If you want to answer we should probably take it back to the actual thread btw

Bruh back in my day all you had to worry about was to get frustrated with arguing about healthcare for the thousandth day in a row. Everyone got ground down to the point where we had a legitimately productive conversation about abortion that didn't end up in a shitfest.
