Well, this is the internet, so of course the announcement thread is filled with 30+ pages of immaturity. From reading it you would think that TL banned EG players from the next TSL, or EG stole that goofy hat Jinro wears, or perhaps something even more drastic. There was heated debate over everything from lag to an EG/TL blood feud.
Reading the thread was physically painful. For you, the group of TL’ers sane enough to browse the blogs, I will summarize the whole thing:
IRL Events:
EG: We’re starting a team league, would you be interested?
TL: Sure, but our players are spread around the world. What are your server rules?
EG: The league is NA/EU centric so there might be some issues for your KR players
TL: Shit! Well, maybe our team isn’t a good fit for this one. Keep us posted, GLHF.
Internet interpretation:
Scoots: We are proud to announce a new league. Because I hate TL (and for no other reason) we are not using their server rotation rules.
Nazgul: You are retards that don’t know how to run a tournament
Scoots: Your players are divas that can’t win. I personally hate you, your players, and everybody that has ever been to your website
Nazgul: Whatever, I vow to kill anybody who watches this league. HAH!

It’s not “ideal” for either party that TL is not participating.
1) Players want to win $, so skipping any tournament is a negative. I think it’s been made abundantly clear that TL decided as a group not to participate in this event over an issue they think is important. It’s not a “fuck EG” attitude- if the same league with the same rules/prizes were started by AMD or PCGamer they would have taken the same ideological stand. This is a protest in support of what they consider better server rules. They have even put their money where their mouth is by running their own tournament by the rules they are suggesting.
2) There is no motive for EG to snuff TL. In fact, it would be better for EG if TL participated. TL players have fans and, while a lot of those people will watch anyways, they would still be more likely watch if their “favorite” players are involved. This is true for ALL teams, I’m not trying to say that TL are the coolest kids in school and everybody loves them. All teams come with fans and the goal is to have as many viewers as possible. EG is obviously too professional to get in a pissing contest with TL.
TLDR) It’s not like EG made the rules knowing that TL would not agree to them, and it’s equally preposterous to assume that TL was waiting for an EG event just to flame the shit out of it. I read the whole announcement thread and not once did I see Nazgul or SirScoots spiting eachother. Seriously, the real world is not as dramatic and contentious as the TV makes it out to be. People need to stop trying to create a feud that doesn’t exist.
I really look forward to this league, I’ve been wanting to see more 2v2 in SC2 and I think one game in a team match is preferable to a dedicated 2v2 tourney. I liked that in BW 2v2 gave you the opportunity to see lesser known players show their skills. Think, you can’t get on a team without being next-level good, but only one player can be the ace. This means there is a lot of talent on team rosters that hasn’t been able to shine until now.

1) The league has room for 8 teams. There are more than 8 teams in the world. I think there might be a math related reason why Empire/TL/Others are not all participating.
2) FXO is also not participating. As the only “foreign” team besides TL spread across 3+ servers, they see the same lag issues and probably declined for the same reasons. Yeah, FnaticMSI has Sen (KOR or SEA?) but that is 1 player not 3+
3) Despite having some of the best players in the world TL is fighting against the impression that its players are “slumping”. The last thing they need (from a publicity standpoint) is to enter a tournament at a disadvantage. It doesn’t mean EG has to change the rules, just that the rules don’t make it attractive to TL.
4) There is no SC2 players union of any sort. In a way, TL declining their invite is like a mini players strike. They are advocating server rules that are, in their opinions, more fair to players located outside NA/EU. While EG is not obligated to care, the point has been made and I think that was really the whole goal.
5) Why is it such a bad thing that TL isn’t represented in every single event? It’s not like Nazgul refused to link the stream on the site or anything mean spirited like that.
I know my post has a bad case of TL;DR but I had to vent somewhere away from the announcement thread. Please post if you want to discuss.
