It's time for my second blog-entry. If you haven't read my first entry you can head here to catch up. Really short version: I'm bronze, I play random and I blog to keep track of my progress and babble about my games.
I've played 48 games after my first blog-entry so I am currently #4 with 297 games, 159 wins (last 10 games are 9-1 for me, hooray) and 53.5% win-ratio which is a slight improvement. Excuses are never fun but I must say that I could have done better (win-ratio-wise) if I hadn't played at saturday and sunday. This game requires quite much all of my attention and if I lack it: disaster happens. And it seems that hangover does affect my focus in a negative way.
During the past week I've noticed a change in my gameplay. Earlier I tried to just build something (I had some buildorders to follow but for some reason I didn't follow them..), scout my opponent and then react accordingly. With lack of knowledge and experience it is easy to see why this lead to some bad decisions. What kind of bad decisions you may ask? Well, decisions like in ZvT: Terran is in 1base-turtle with dozens of siege-tanks so of course I decided to bling-bust! Luckily brood lords saved my butt in that game.
So yes, nowadays I strictly follow buildorders / openings and think twice before transitions / tech-switches. Too bad that this doesn't fix one of my biggest flaws: For some reason I can't "capitalize". Even when my first attack is successful and I know that I have the economical advantage over my opponent, I struggle in mid/late-game.
I have also ditched all the FE-builds and expand when I feel safe. Quite often it is really late but I've lost too many times to 1-base-play when I have tried to FE. Problem with my fast expands is that I have this strange urge to saturate my natural as fast as possible, which of course means that my army is +1k minerals smaller than my 1-basing opponent's. Exception to this is of course Zerg. This is a bit bragging but I'm quite good at executing 7 RoachRush / Expand / Lair -build. With T or P my FE's always fall down to the fact that my army is just too small to defend it and my micro is almost non-existant.
Thing that I dont like about Bronze-league is the amount of cheese I need to eat. If I say that every fourth game I play involves somekind of cheese (all-ins or semi-all-ins) I'm not exaggerating much. It just irritates me when my opponent jquits after his failed cheese-attempt. For example: if protoss tries to cannon-rush and I manage to destroy pylons with workers / early units, he just quits.
It seems I love to produce these walls of text. Oh well, hope you did enjoy reading it. So, 'til next time.
cheers!
